Re: Announcing our New Velocity Frequent Flyer Program

I emailed my application on August 25 and have heard nothing as yet. Should I call, email or wait it out? The VA website still advertises the match.

I am about to book my next few months travelling both domestic and overseas and a VA card could sway me on which airlines to use.
They did say that it could take up to four weeks for the status match to come through. I would not bother them just yet.

So in reality you have every intention of flying Virgin and a genuine purpose for wanting lounge access, which is fine and totally valid. But there are many who don't have that intention and don't need additional lounge access (for assorted reasons) and another jolly card and emails and mail and promotions maybe just another thing they don't want. I respect that.

There are also many that wouldn't have even checked out VA without the status match - me included. I have my first VA/DJ flight next week as a tester and I might even put a flight to PER to VA/DJ and use up the upgrades to see what the product is like.

My main gripe at the moment is the lack of preselection of seats which is something I am really enjoying on QF.

keith009 processed my status match in the T3 lounge at MEL on 26 Aug in the evening, and the match has come through today, according to the website. :D
Same with me (date, Indentity & Match!)

I put in my status match request email on 27 August. I am looking for a match to QFF Gold. My match has not come through yet. I got an email receipt over the weekend saying my email had been deleted without being read. Is that normal, or should I re-send the request?

Re: Announcing our New Velocity Frequent Flyer Program

I know that we all want thta little card or updated account before we start booking flights, but it's not as if they have been turning down status matches .

If your travel is imminent, take copies of the "confirming receipt of status match" email and have your other FF card handy. At check-in, use the status match email to access the preferred check-in area (if you have baggage).

To acesss The Lounge, use your FF card (as there is a "one time only access" offer) or the email plus FF card - at that point, get a temporary VA card issued.

For points/status - see markis10's previous comment (that people were credited under their new levels inthe last status match). I believe he had first hand experience :)

Useful advice Lindsay. I do have one question that I can't find the answer to. If I book a saver fare and try to use the 69 kg luggage allowance before the status match comes through will I be charged excess baggage? We will be hopefully flying from MEL to NTL next month after travelling in UK, hence the baggage query.

That's a little unusual AdamR, but I don't know anything about email/IT etc, so can't respond to the question with any authority. I'd keep the "read receipt" email (or in your case not-read ) in case it doesn't get processed in a couple of days. Perhaps a call might solve the question and settle your concern.

Looks like most (if not all) from 26th August are now processed (at the account upgrade part of the process). Anyone from that date still not received the confirmatory email "Welcome to Velocity [Silver/Gold/Platinum] membership"?

Just logged in to my account and I'm now matched to Gold from my original request on 26th August. Presumably, I'll be matched again to Platinum in the next few days from my lounge visit last Friday :)

Re: Announcing our New Velocity Frequent Flyer Program

Princess Fiona, if you are likely to be at an airport (perhaps even a Westfield booth), then I would make the time to get the temporary card & luggage tags (plus excellent wire tie).

Alternatively, as alluded to above, keep the email and flash your QFF Plat card at check-in, citing you've been away overseas and the membership pack will be awaiting your return. You won't have been the first to have done that ;)

That is what I did. Applied via email when in Bkk/Hkg and then visited the Mel lounge on the way back to Adl to get my temp VA WP card and the bag tag.

My status match request email was sent out 04:53am Saturday 27 Aug and was acknowledged at 04:54am Saturday 27 Aug. Nothing since. Got my temp VA WP card and the VA WP bag tag with the nice wire tie approx 11:30am Monday 29 Aug in the VA Mel lounge.

All good things will come to those who wait.

Applied and received confirmation email on 26th. Still Gold (applied for match to Platinum) as at now.

I'm pretty relaxed about it, but as I'm flying VA tomorrow SYD - MEL return I'd like my SC's to count towards plat retention. I was going to ask them to match me in the Lounge before the flight leaves and hope that all would be well?

So I thought I would take advantage of this and book my partner on his first Virgin flight with his new status. Right, the last plane from Sydney to Adelaide on a Friday night is 6pm! Virgin, if you want business to use your service then please provide a proper business service! 6pm is stupidly early to close your flights!

Ok. Lets get one thing clear. This is not Qantas. Virgin are off their L's but certainly still on their P's. It takes a while to build a full service full schedule airline, especially in the current economy. They are doing it well (mostly) but still have a way to go. The status match is a clever promotion but it does not solve issues.

After applying via the website back on the 26th August, receiving the conformation email that I would be processed in the next 4 weeks, I wandered into the BNE DJ lounge a few hours ago and asked for a match.

Done in under 5 minutes, temp card issued and advised the welcome pack would be a few weeks.

Will I fly DJ in the next 12 months? Only if QF doesn't fly where I need to go, domestically of course. After LTG rolls around however things will be very different.

Applied via email on the 27th for match to gold still no news.

on

Subject : Gold

Email body : DJ #

Not sure if there's any truth in this maybe it would have been quicker if DJ# and Gold was in the Subject header o.0" my mate applied around the same time and he's received a reply.

I haven't - applied about 4pm Fri 26 Aug for a match from QF Gold, got the automatic 'receipt' email immediately but just logged in and am still showing as member online, so no luck yet!

A long way to go. Nice to have the lounge access etc, but if the planes dont fly then the product is lacking.

Why would you not get bonus points, the status match at the lounge would be effective the day you did it, and the system should pick it up!
Are you sure? Asked for status match in the BNE lounge on 26/08/2011 and status match came through on 02/09/2011 with an expiry date of 02/09/2012. I am assuming that 'Platinum member from' would also be on the day it was actually processed on the system. Anyway.

Not expecting a signed Luke Mangan book, but at least I can add to my numerous bag tags adorning my carry-ons.
I am sure if you stopped by the BNE lounge they would give you a book.

I have no idea who Luke Mangan is, and really have no interest, but from references to Neil Perry I am guessing they have similar roles at VA/QF.
