Velocity/Virgin websites are RUBBISH

Seriously had to email Velocity to ask for a copy of an itinerary - there was no way to reprint regardless of using IE, Firefox or Chrome, tried them all. Ctrl+P didn't format correctly, quite amazing there is no print option ATM! Apparently Chrome is on the banned list for Velocity, I'm certainly aware of that one.

Chrome apparently has a 31% market share of PC based browsers, seems a strange decision to exclude the second most popular PC browser in the world after IE (51%) then Chrome (31%) followed by Firefox (11%) and Safari (5%) and Opera (1%).

Don't know why, but I never have a problem with the website. I predominately use my Apple MacBook Pro using Chrome. I had some minor problems during the implementing of the Sabre system but that was out weighed with getting very cheap reward flights including the infamous A47 (twice)....#1

Bolt :)

I'm so glad you posted this BB. I spent from 6.30pm to 11pm last night to make 3 bookings. There's not enough bandwidth in AFF to list all the problems I had but to cut it short, I even tried ringing the GCC where I had to wait on hold (plat desk) for 20minutes and then be told curtly "we're not experiencing any problems"! Then the lady told me as I could book on line, she would not waive the $35/head fee (x 3 as it was for 3 people). The fare was available on-line, but it wouldn't accept the booking, but it would wait right up until the payment processing before rejecting it. As I'm on a bloody slow connection at the best of time, this was infuriating. The fare was LST-OOL in J for $1911 for 3 people (using GPR23), which even though I knew (and was advised during the booking process) that LST-MEL was in Y the reality is we get the J seat anyway so I thought it was a pretty good deal.

The GCC lady finally relented and agreed I could not book on line and ditched the $35 fee(x3) yet the figure she came up with for the same fare (after a workaround she had to apply) came to an all in price of just over $3k. The term "get stuffed" came to mind but as a gentleman (;)), I refrained. She also had the bloody audacity to say to me when we were debating whether or not I should be charged the $35 fee, "the flight isn't until March, so what's your hurry"! When I told her the triple point promo was finishing therefore some degree of rush was warranted, she replied "you know you have to register"! I thanked her for wasting too much of my time already (an int. call) and hung up. after 4 on-line attempts, I booked flexi Y instead. :(

I also copped the "add destination" bug, when the destination clearly showed (that was on numerous occasions) and a new one for me........many times, on clicking the "continue" button, it would bounce me back to the page previous....minus all the data I'd entered! Damn frustrating.

Makes JQ and QF websites feel like a dream!

Ohh I'm just lucky again!

Interesting selection of fares here - seems to be an International problem - I haven't had any problems myself with domestic flights at the moment.

Had a return booking for two in J on a 10% disc. code (Full J fare as advertised $549, bought for circa $489) that I needed to change one sector to the next day. On-line, the website wanted an extra $485 to change it. Called the GCC and it was changed for free....no call centre fee either (in fact unlike the day earlier, I had one of the most pleasant, helpful and charming GCC ladies one could imagine).

If someone can work that one out, I'd be all ears!

There are some true gems working at VA. Absolute gems indeed. We should name and (the opposite of) shame them here because when their staff (cabin, ground and GCC) are good, they're bloody fantastic.

It doesn't solve any of the online issues, but my God it helps when someone with empathy and big smile swoops in to save the day.

I agree but part of me wonders if we name a person for outstanding service and not slugging us with a fee, will the person get in trouble for that.

I changed 4 flights a month or so ago, had the credit card out to pay the fee and she didn't mention it at all. Brilliant win for me.

Seems to work OK in IE so presumably yet another example of Chrome no longer being supported by VA.

I've completely given up on the www.virginaustralia.com Hotel search page. Rather, the way to do it is to log into your Velocity account, go to the 'Earn' menu and choose the book now button under Hotels, Agoda. That seems to work, at least using Firefox or IE.

not exclusive to VA... I can't use Chrome for St George Business banking.... I have to use IE.

Now I am far from understanding the technical side of all this, but I know for my uses personal and business I avoid Chrome completely

The java site even recommends other browsers... I have found any website using these applications, Chrome fails.

If you have problems accessing Java applications using Chrome, Oracle recommends using Internet Explorer (Windows) or Safari (Mac OS X) instead.

I never have a problem with Chrome with anything ever EXCEPT Virgin.

I didn't know anyone still used IE (or 'Edge' as it's called in Win 10).

Reminded me of this:

Xero, soon to overtake MYOB as the No.1 small business software, also doesn't like Chrome. A software company I work for also had big problems with Chrome, but we have resolved those now thankfully. There is no doubt however that IE is a pile of poo. I've been using browsers for about 20 years now I think, and the thing that drives me nuts is lack of menus. I'm a bit of a menu guy - I like to see 'File' up there in the top left corner. I know you can turn it on via View or whatever, but this drive towards 'clean' interfaces just annoys me. Even Firefox, a trusty favorite, now has a silly bunch of small icons including something called 'Save to Pocket'. Whatever - I don't even want to know.

So I'm sent in another complaint about their website not working in Chrome, and used much more scary language about how in early 2016 noone will be able to access their website as all browser vendors are deprecating RC4. What are the odds anyone listens?

Well, they replied to thank me for sending in the scanned copy of my document to claim my missing points with Virgin Australia.

Fingers crossed that they approve my missing points cl... oh wait.

I should have read this thread earlier, have been trying to book a multi city flight through virgin for three days, but it hangs on the passenger details page. I posted to the flight search assistance thread hoping someone could verify that it hangs, but no takers.

I can book the same flight over the phone, but will cost considerably more, so gave that a miss.

Browser is chrome.

EDIT: I just tried it with another PC with Internet explorer, same deal, it just times out on passenger details.

Interestingly expedia doesnt show any Virgin flights for those legs anywhere.

Last week I had all kinds of drama with the multicity bookings. Not hanging on the pax page but often booting me back a page (and needing to retype any info missing), then not properly accepting CC details (address fields wouldn't work) despite them being on file with them and finally going right through the payment process, only to reject it there. Then to have some upstart clown at the GCC tell me that as I could book it online, she won't waive the call centre fee.....$35 per person! Yeah right. Like that'll work for me. The difference between on-line and call centre was around $1100! ($1911 for on-line to just over $3000 for the call centre after she removed the fee....maybe they misunderstood what sort of service I desired).....what a clever bunch they are.....not!

Was checking to see if there were reward seats available for a domestic flight that Im booked in Y, and yes! J Reward seats available.

So I phone the VFF line to find out why my request to upgrade with points/waitlist hasn't been activated.

While waiting, I click the day after - nothing available, I click back to my original date and all the reward seats went *poof*. I took a print screen of the page showing rewards seats available so I know I didn't imagine them.

Denali, so what was the outcome of the phone call - were the award seats phantoms or did they confirm availability?
