Vinomofo Wine Deals

I bought a bottle about 4 weeks ago. It wont be opened though until a very special occasion occurs. From memory it will go for another 10 years, so I'm happy to sit back and wait.

Suspect it would probably go much longer than 10 based on last time I tried it a few years ago. Just curious as to bottle condition though. Got to be a reason its so cheap.

The exterior packaging and bottle are fine. Obviously I can't comment on the content yet.

I suspect it's cheap because of the huge mark up that other players have on these high end items and obviously get away with because people are prepared to pay those sort of prices. I think at $300 the discount is comparable to other high end wines that Vinomofo has had over the past 2 years. I've had bottles from Vinomofo that retail around $150 at any of the major chains for under $50. So this is a comparable level of discounting.

I should have been more specific. My concern is the wine being shipped here either in non-refrigerated containers or from a third country where it may have sat in less than ideal conditions. Of all wines, champagne is the most susceptible to poor storage conditions. Decisions decisions...

The Krug seems to be out of stock again, if it comes back I'll take a punt and get a bottle

i was thinking that but can't confirm the 14% - my 1st thought was Hillcrest Vineyard Premium Pinot Noir 2005 but that's 13.4% (and meant to be better than the diamond valley)

Yes my conclusion is Diamond Valley too. Halliday gave the drinking window to 2013.

I'm not at all familiar with this wine or winery, but at $30/bottle I know of other Yarra Pinots that are brilliant...so why risk it. Pass for me.

Yes, it looks like the Diamond Valley Reserve - probably reasonable value for $30, not so good at $64.

Fail for me, OK reviews at best, you need to do more than that to tempt me at $30 a go.

Hmm, a good Pinot is never cheap... But there are some good base level Burgandys for $50, so this would want to be good given the pricetag.

Halliday did like it give it a good rating, but gawked at the price in comparison to the non-reserve. Other reviewers trashed it.

As is fairly well documented these days Halliday has acquired quite a reputation for considerably overrating and in particular for overrating Pinot Noir. Your palate may agree with him, but a solid rump of other reviewers don't and hence these days I ALWAYS seek other reviews to balance JH against, there are probably others I have greater faith in, e.g. winefront/Phillip White which seem to better match my palate.

If it is the deal I got it is $38 per bottle not $38 for 6.

It's the 2011 Schild Estate Barossa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. It's been on several times before. They've also had the 2011 Shiraz.

I've tried the Shiraz, but not the CS yet. The Shiraz was just OK. If I'd paid $20 for it I'd have been disappointed, but at $6 I can't complain. But I will say, as I'm sure you already know, that 2011 wasn't a great vintage for the Barossa. Hence why there are so many cheap 2011 wines around.

I've just ordered a case of the CS.
