Vinomofo Wine Deals

I notice some bought the Haselgrove; none have commented on it. A few ratings on Vivino* are all that's to be seen anywhere. A bit 'meh' then?

Just becuase no one has commented on it in this thread doesn't mean it's a bad wine or that no one liked it.

Two factors for you to consider:

1) Many of us cellar our wines so it may take many years before we are able to comment.

2) There's a dedicated thread to discuss wine tastings. You can find it here:

If you read the posts you will see I and another member commented - we both called it a fruit bomb upon opening although he said he would return his whereas I would have if my partner didn't like it so much - Would not recommend - lot better wines out there or else you will need to wait years for it to lose the sweetness

FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFaaaar out brussel sprout. This is my normal first port of call when reading the aff and I was so glad that I say Dr Ralphs comment that I was going to tag along, so there I was typing a review when I realised there is a better place for it. Namely, Nice wines.... is that place for a review of the Eden Hall CSV 2007 that the good man Ralphy put me onto about a week ago. 6 for $99 delivered. How did it go, how does Dr Ralph stack up as a recommendee ( is that a word) and what else is doing will be found at NWIHDR.

Hi Dr Ralph and AC,

With my 'a bit meh then?' comment I was referring to the vivino ratings, which were three 3* and one 5*. (Maybe I'm overly cynical but I tend to assume that a single high outlier may have been contributed by someone with a vested interest -- which leaves only the three 3* ratings to trust... but it's a small sample size, which is why I asked the question.)

I did do a search in the aff search box on "haselgrove batch 187 vinomofo" (perhaps I should have left off the "vinomofo" part to be less specific) and on Google too on just "haselgrove batch 187". So it was not for want of looking that I failed to turn up any information. What search should I actually have used? And where are these reviews from AC and The Director? I only find posts from them discussing it before they have tasted it.

Also -- you really would buy a case of 12 bottles of a wine that you've never tasted, that nobody has ever reviewed as far as you can tell, at a rather modest $12 a bottle, and put the whole lot down for years without even trying one of them young?

Also -- I would have thought that I was more on-topic in the Vinomofo Wine Deals thread asking about a wine that was currently on offer through VM than in the "Nice wines I've drunk" thread (unless of course we're to assume that it goes without saying that someone has decided it's a nice wine). What's this thread about after all?

Sorry if I'm out of line; I'm just a little bit bemused by your reactions to what I thought was a perfectly on-topic post that I made after what I thought was a reasonably diligent effort to uncover relevant info before posting.

Thanks Director for reiterating your opinions. By searching for "haselgrove fruit bomb" I was able to find the original posts (in which it was referred to as "batch 87" which explains why my searches for "batch 187" didn't turn it up).

Morning all, I see the Gapsted Pinot Noir on the FO today (link here) I couldn't see any reviews for this wine although others seem positive. Anyone tried this? Cheers

Not tried the pinot from Gapsted. But in the past Gapsted have featured on VM several times. I've tried their Saperavi previously and it was just OK. Don't have a lot of familiarity with all of their wines but from the couple I've tried, Gapsted aren't on my list as a producer it'd want to buy more from.

Stanley Lambchop - that's the best name I have come across so far! How did you come up with that name!?

I have posted just now to the Nice Wines thread on my initial views on the Mitolo Cantiniere. Is it a Fo success or a Fo (faux) Pa? For me, it's a Fo success (and you can read why on the other thread).

There's an old children's book called "Flat Stanley" - the character's name is Stanley Lambchop, which I thought was a good name. The real Mrs Lambchop put her foot down when it came to naming our own child Stanley unfortunately...
Interested to hear your initial take - I didn't get to the Mitolo over the weekend, but hopefully will find time to crack one during the week.

Ok - thanks Dr Ralph. I'd be tempted to try but don't need a case of something that may not tick the box..

Re: Black Market Pinot Noir 2010 $50 down to $15 Yarra Valley

Mine is also in transit...but again appears stuck in Werribee. Not expected to arrive until Thursday the 22nd. They must be walking it here

Mine has arrived! Not sure if it's been confirmed already but it's the Elmswood Estate Reserve. Sadly for me, Monday is a wine free day so I shall have to wait until tomorrow to sample :(

My Mitolo arrived today and to my dismay it had been sitting in the hot Gold Coast sun for what must have been a full day - the bottles were red hot.

I would say I'm pretty new to this wine collecting business - what should I do here? What effect (if any) will this have on the wine?

I wish they messaged you prior to delivery so that you could work something out (eg "wine will be delivered in next 3 hours"). As it turns out I wasn't expecting it today and couldn't arrange my day to get home.

Unless the wine was absolutely 'cooked' you don't have a long term problem.

There's nothing you can do. Any damage that was going to have been done is now done. The damage however, is likely to be that it wont cellar as long as it would normally have done. Drinking within the next 2 yrs shouldn't see problems.

You can provide instructions such as 'call before delivery' as part of the order process. I've done this before and 90% of the time they do call.

Thanks for the info.

This is probably 'the best' wine I have bought so far (I haven't spent too much on any of it though), so I was planning to put it down properly (5+ years).

Anyway, as you say, what's done is done, just annoying...

On that basis you may want to consider returning it to them. There's no charge to do so.

Open up a bottle in the next week and see if you like it. If you don't then use the fantastic fo return policy. If you do, post a review for the rest of lemmings who jumped at it. So far the reviews have not been what I would have expected, however, let us all perform due diligence and assess properly. Play that funky Mitolo white boy.

Wozza, you were referring to an Avatar that polarized your viewing recently. Its a bit like that video on you tube about the English girl talking wines I believe and she eventually puts down the glass on the table and talks about 'The Bush". Now, this ones about some beer. It's quite clever.ursus-beer-ads-two-bottles-as-legs-and-a-bottle-as-a-cough-350x350.jpg
