Vinomofo Wine Deals

Methinks you are taking this too personally, this seems to me a general comment rather than specifically aimed at you!
Firstly, I hit the wrong reply quote button which I have clarified, and secondly, I do take buying mutton dressed up as lamb in the form of Randall Tomich's pinot as very poor form to us punters who have wasted our time. Don't ever forget that you don't get a second chance at a first impression.

Do you have a multiple personality, my comment was in response to Kincho's post, not yours!

Interesting. I've never bought wine from them. Isn't most of it sold 'as is' and they don't do refunds at all? Is it their standard policy to not require returns?

Edit: Out of interest what are you trying to return? Might be worth avoiding for the rest of us :)

Hi AC. I have brought a fair bit through Grays Wines, including the DMs (of which we shared part of a case). It's a bit hit and miss, as their wine is sold 'as is' and the descriptions are not as fulsome as other online wine merchants. But they do offer similar returns to the Fo. In fact, they are probably better in practice based on the following experience.

As an example, I acquired some medal winning, 94 pointer from WA (I forget which one, but I doubt you would go there - Peppermint Creek something or other), and it was completely corked. I got through 2 bottles of 12 and it was the same. I wrote them a nice email, offered to pay for the 2 and return the 10, and they responded the same day with a nice email saying - thanks for the offer, but we are offering you a full refund, and we don't want the wine back (no doubt it was not cost effective to get it back if it was corked and unsellable). That refund was in my account the next day.

I would definitely recommend Grays Wines, but probably stick to the good stuff you and I like buying (but always remembering 17.5% goes on top after the auction ends - I have learnt that to my cost a few times now!!).

Sadly not much recently. I’ve been out of the game for a number of years. Firstly due to a serious illness (stroke) and secondly when my house, and more importantly my cellar, got burnt to the ground. So I am slowly starting the painstaking process of rebuilding (the cellar not the house). I have only started re-purchasing wine over the last 3 months, and have secured about 15 dozen bottles to date, mostly from a recent trip to the Hunter. Sadly not much Shiraz yet, I seem to have a disproportionate amount of Chardonnay, and I’m not a huge Chardonnay fan (don’t ask!). However I did enjoy the First Creek Reserve Shiraz and the Thomas Allen “Alasdair” Shiraz, both nice earthy Hunter Shriaz’s. Again, not spectacular, but very competent wines.

Don’t get me wrong. The Ironrock is a very nice Shriaz and certainly a steal for $25 a bottle. I hope my notes reflect this. But in my taste memory I am comparing it against wines like the Rockford Basket Press Shiraz, or Grant Burge Meshach which were the mainstays of my lost cellar. Unfortunately my disposable income is not as high these days as it was 10-20 years ago, so I can’t buy these wines like candy any more.

I am greatly enjoying my recent membership to VinoMofo, and am buying quite a few mixed mystery cartons and getting to try wines that I might otherwise never have sampled. Great fun.

Delectable Blue
- they are sad circumstances indeed. I feel for you. I am glad you have hooked into this blog, as between the various Frequent Flyer Wine Lover threads you will hopefully pick up some great deals without spending a small fortune. I have acquired some great deals, and some great knowledge, thanks to the good people that contribute to all the Frequent Flyer Wine Lover threads.

Happy cellar building, and happy drinking times ahead ...

Good to see that you are more than getting into the swing again. Keep reading this forum and there will be many a good tip to follow. It's time you bought some king of the grape Cabernet and leave the Chardies for the time being. Looking forward to your impressive reviews.

Thanks. I agree wholeheartedly. Now that she who must be obeyed has her Chardies, Cabernets are definitely high on my acquisition list. I'm keen to grab some of the Fox Gordon when it next appears on the list. Could someone kindly post a link to the wine as it appears on the mof_ site. I'd like to read it so I know what to keep an eye open for. I've been back though their listings but can't see which one it is. Any other Cabernet recommendations are also gratefully welcomed.

Many thanks...

Agree ... I decanted the wine and it did open up a little after a few hours compared to when I tasted it not long out of the bottle. It kinda reminded me of the Lofty SV a little. I think it tasted a little better on the second day as well.
I agree with you Wozza; while it's a nice wine, the price point is a problem, and so too was the way it was marketed. If it was priced the same as the Glenlofty then we'd probably be talking about it in more positive light.

I also agree tasted better on second day and third day with just being just kept in wine fridge with no winesaver....was disappointed when tasted on day one
Whether worth the $68 tag is another matter

All sensational wines for the price offered. Definitely worth looking out for these too (or their successors next year).

Terrific, thanks for this info. Do they normally list these wines under their labels, or do they get listed as Secret Deals or Black Market offers?

Sorry for all the newbie questions. I'm still trying to decode the VM matrix.

I'm only very new to the FO so unfortunately I don't rate a broker just yet. Looks like a few more lucky dips before I quality for gold service. Mind you I've been enjoying the luck dips so I'm not really complaining.

All of these were hidden labels from memory. The only one I think may come back is the Fox Gordon. It'll say Barossa 2014 $35 down to $10.50 from a Red 5 star producer

If it is Fox Gordon B & S Cabernet Sauvignon 2014 you are looking for, this should be the one:

Can anyone confirm what the sparkling on offer is for the Facebook sale? Has been up before but apparently sold out ;) need some quaffing sparkling for the spring :)

Frankly, I don't think they care enough about one customer to change courier companies. And they probably have processes to stop stock losses/shrinkage that prevents issuing refunds without stock returned. I've never heard of a retailer refunding without getting the stock back - you should see what online IT companies are like - you can wait months for a refund - even if you never got the stock in the first place, let alone if it were faulty.

I just got my broker to handle the return - the only thing he actually did for me :)

Not a refund and not wine but a retailer recently sent me an item express post when I rang to say wrong product received. Correct item received next day with a freight free return label for the incorrect item.
That's what I call perfect service recovery.

I can't say too much yet but keep an eye on the Dans thread. I'll be posting something there in the not too distant future about a Cab.

It's been 3 weeks that I have 2 cases waiting for a courier from Cellarmasters. I got my refund straight away but still no sign of the courier. I called them once to told them 'Hey guys, thanks for the refund but no ones picked up the wine yet' (Dolan Langhorne Creek Shiraz btw...) but they don't seem in hurry to get it back...

As for VM, I returned a case once (Golden Lion Shiraz: Yak...) and within a week the courier came and I got a credit on my account.

Can I add the Sandalford Reserve Margaret River CS 2010 that was there not long ago. I got two cases soon after discovering this forum (and so, knowing what I'm buying).
