Vinomofo Wine Deals

Re: Vinomofo secret wine deals

I'm guessing that today's Black Market Shiraz $80 down to $29 is the 2010 Mitolo "Savitar" Shiraz. Thoughts?

looks like it ..."A complex, handpicked chocolate monster" (wont go to well with some here...lol)
but I'm really having difficulty coming to terms with their pricing structure and at $80rrp I'm skeptical
anyone tried it?

Matches the 3 points scores quoted, $80 and might be an apology sale given bad reaction to the Cantiniere! Haven't tasted - but I wasn't unhappy with my well-breathed tasting of the Catiniere. It certainly wasn't the value quoted but isn't a bad wine. The Savitar has some sales pedigree so might be worth a shot, given the low end Jester still sells in the high teens.

I have had it once before. I don't tend to agree with the $80 price range, I'd comfortably pay $30-$50 a bottle for it, but no more than that. It is pretty big and full of cedary oak. Bit of olive and clove on the nose, but chocolate dominant is pretty accurate. I'd be sitting it down for another 5 years or so to be honest

Savitar normally sells at around $50 or so. Everyone knows that these RRPs that vineyards quote are a nonsense in this age of DM/1st Choice etc. Heck, even Grange doesn't sell for RRP.

3 oceans rose is a simple, very very easy to drink great value summer wine. Sure its sweet, but not too much. I found it so easy to drink with nothing nasty about it. I prefer Grenache based roses, and this is different. I thought the 2015 grigio was gapstead....i have a case coming punting it was gapstead, as I previously bought the 2014 grigio. This 14 is beautiful. Mrs B loves it.

I was tempted when I first saw the pinot grigio but have (so far) exercised restraint. I'll be keen to hear if it is from Gapsted and what it's like.

Sorry- the $13.50 (down from $45) 2014 barossa shiraz is the Thistledown Two Roads Shiraz

Interesting - wasn't this listed as being from a Halliday 5* producer (the offering seems to be gone from the site now). Wine Companion lists it as a 4* producer.

!!! Yep, that will include me!

As soon as I saw that line - "A complex, handpicked chocolate monster" - (ironically as I was on the phone to the lovely Fo arranging a return of the Willy Wonker), I was an immediate OUT! Glad the description is more accurate than the last Mitolo offered.

And what excellent feedback from Violin. It's great we have people on here who have tried many of the wines, so we can all make an informed choice.

Ps - if any of you are wondering how I returned 4 in a 6 pack. One of you AFFs kindly offered in the background to do a Fo bottle swap so I could send back 5. It was lovely meeting another AFF in the person and hearing all their amazing tips. And they walked away with one of my favourite wines - the JB12! Thank you AFF - you know who you are.

Took a punt on the secret deal Shiraz 2010.

Didn't order anything from VM lately, too many mediocre offers, hope this one won't disappoint.

Interesting. Description of Rose says bone dry. I prefer sangiovese rose, from the likes of Pizzini. Also like Turkey Flat.

Having looked at the Gapstead website, I doubt it is from there. Their website shows a $13 Grigio and a $25 Gris. VM definitely shows Grigio.

I'm keen to hear what it actually is and what it tastes like too!

What worries me about this wine is the 84 point rating from the guys at the wine front. Might have been a bad bottle, but its one of the lowest scores I've ever seen from them.

Re: Vinomofo secret wine deals

I tried the Mitolo Cantiniere 2013 tonight, and rather enjoyed it. I didn't find it to be a poor 'fo deal - it had good fruit, length, body and balance. Some seem to have some expertise on reliably judging the price point of a wine and I admit I don't have a really good sense of that, but I found it quite classy with no rough edges, and a good McLV shiraz. I've also jumped on the savitar. The only problem is, with all these deals, the 'fo demands the development of self-restraint, or, a very large cellar.

Mine was picked up and returned today... pretty sure there will still ba a lot more of this one available following all the returns, more than likely in a Salvation cases...

I really didn't like the acidity of the Cantiniere but YMMV...

Hi everyone. I think today's Semillon is Brokenwood Oakey Creek. Anyone else have a view? I've always liked their stuff.
Thanks!
