Vinomofo Wine Deals

Re: Vinomofo secret wine deals

I haven't had much luck with VM's Mitolo wines lately...(hope you don't mind, I just need to vent...besides this is page 666!)

After returning my Cantinieri order I decided to buy the '10 Savitar.. Being a fan of the '07 vintage, I was really looking forward to tasting the '10. Unfortunately, during the week Nexday managed to damage the contents of my order prior to delivery and VM is unable to replace them. However, VM generously(?) gave me a refund and credited me with the $9 delivery fee (my original order included free delivery).

On the plus side, I still have a few '07s tucked away.

Re: Vinomofo secret wine deals

Greetings mof_s. From a perusal of Halliday the new Black Market Margaret River Cab Sav would appear to be another Sandalford: Sandalford Estate Reserve Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon 2009. I 'boomed' the 2010 quite a while back, and it is very good. That wine was a bit more expensive at a smidgeon over $20 - VM's price on the 2009 is very keen. This could be due to lower Halliday points for the 2009 - the 2010 received 95. The decanter tasting of the 2009 here (http://greenpiper.com.au/files/2012/11/NOV12-Coonawarra-Margaret-River-Cabs1.pdf) is leading me to feel tempted though. Welcome your thoughts.
. I got onto this today only, how much and what quantity from the Fo? and did you buy? Lastly great greenpiper link!

Luckily, my case of Penley Estate Reserve arrived yesterday before noon, just before the ambient temperature increased to above 30 degree Celsius, a narrow escape!

Opened the case this morning, and found one of bottles has the foil missing, inviting me to pop it tonight???

At present my powers to resist a deal from the 'fo need considerable development, so I inevitably made the purchase. It comes in a dozen at $198.

I am sure many of us are waiting for your report. Don't less us down. Don't succumb to any wowsers. Be tough, get that corkscrew out and become besotted by firstly, the sound of extraction and secondly, the sound of your lips smacking away with the terrific, tasty, taut tannins. Saluté !

Re: Vinomofo secret wine deals

That's very good buying there mackerman. Yesterday en route to a three hour lunch, then some punting on the gee gees courtesy of sportsbet, I had a call from my broker spruiking the Mornington Pinot. It sold old I am assuming very quickly and why wouldn't it. I resisted. I did appreciate the honesty from my agent fo, but I have bought a few pinots lately which haven't been bad, but not knockout stuff. I know folks would have made the buy so reviews will follow. I was and always look for the 6 packs of quality twenty buckers. A little less cost, a little less risk. However, my agent didn't really get too upset and after I expressed the hesitancy, they gave me the professional see you later, call you next week and then we got into some whites for lunch. there will not be too many of these with us all as the motor neurone disease that Peter has is slowly but surely making his body weaker and weaker. Nevertheless, carpe diem so he being a Semillon fan, we had the aged release 2007 Elizabeth that was lovely, a very nice Jim barry watervake 2015 Riesling which is stunning, and an average rose from 3 oceans. a little sweet following those, but it still passes for a quaffer.

so a fifty dollar pinot down to fifteen, with legit upbringing is sure to be a good one for those out there who partook.

Re: Vinomofo secret wine deals

Just wanted to report on two yarra wines recently offered on the fo for about $12. Both are Better Half 2015 wines - a pinot and chardy. From the Fratelli stable from what I can gather. I bought on speculation that they were Ar Fion wines but no cigar. I'm happy to very happy with both of them. The chardy is very good - masses of stone fruit and really elegant. The pinot has good acid bringing length with decent tannins - opened up well over a couple of days.

...by the way, your cab 2009 is not the same as de decanter one.....not that it matters, but the decanter one sells for 70-90aud

Re: Vinomofo secret wine deals

has anyone had the frank potts?

I bought it because of the value firstly and the location second, langhorne creek.

Same here, and I haven't tried mine yet either. If anyone has, I second the request to give us a review. And, if you're looking for more, I notice WineMarket today have something that fits its description at $17.50 in 6-packs. That's poorer value than it was from VM (though that was in lots of 12, was IMO a stonking great bargain, and more to the point, is no longer available).

I have had 1 bottle of the Frank Potts - I don't really remember it as being exceptional but also don't remember it being ordinary. I'm sure I posted it in the nice wines thread if you want to do a search but my review will not have the impressive descriptors many are able to use

Cheers, Steady. I found it at #4075 in that thread. Sounds like it wants to breathe a little so I'll take that into account when cracking one.

I notice VM have added a 2012 Durif with good points today; seems like it might be the Campbells, though various details don't match up (e.g. the alcohol level. But it's 94pts & Special Value on the Wine Companion site, so assuming CM did that particular review, it might be a match). I've had the Morris Durif before from the same region ('07 vintage) with a few years of bottle age on it. (Steady, my own notes lack sophistication too: for that one they are simply: "Yum".) Not sure if I've ever tried the Campbell's. But off the back of that positive experience, I'm a bit intrigued / tempted.

I think it's this one:

Durif
Glenrowan
2012
$29
$14.50
22/11/2015
Baileys of Glenrowan Petite Sirah
JH95, CM94, Red 5 Star

Thanks AC, I agree that looks more likely. (They got me again. It's always a nice bit of misdirection for the VM copy writers when grapes sourced from one region are used by a winemaker based in another.)

EDIT: I should note there is still at least one inconsistency: VM say American oak was used and Wine Companion says it was French. We can probably chalk that up to the usual sloppiness though. At least the alcohol matches.

Rereading their description, I'm not sure about it being either the Baileys or the Edwards now. Neither is a comfortable match (price is out for both, and as you say, there's other little inconsistencies as well)

yep. plenty of chat about that on Friday.
I'm going to give it a miss - I've still got the Fox to try out, which is apparently better. Plus some a case of the 'lofty 2012 to get through. Otherwise no one will be getting Xmas presents... ;)
