Would be much appreciated if anyone could share their views on what is a decent everyday drinking red, preferably shiraz. Doesn't need to be at the premium end, have enough of those.

I have a couple. I am very fond of Zonte's Footstep Chocolate Factory Shiraz, Lost Buoy Lion Point Shiraz or Cliff Block Grenache, Rocland Estate Chocolate Box, Dandelion Lionheart. Depends on your per bottle limit really

Slightly off-piste answer for some of these, but I would say:

1. Paxton Jones Block 12 - apparently WineMarket are selling them around $25 over the phone. Drinks so well now, but with such potential. Call 1300 289 946

2. Innocent Bystander Syrah 14 - lovely, complex wine that takes you on a journey. $19.90 is a steal: https://vinomofo.com/wines/red-wine/innocent-bystander-yarra-valley-syrah-2014-Oct-21-15

3. Seppelt Chalambar 13 - $17.50 is a great price for this nice easy drinking wine https://vinomofo.com/wines/red-wine/seppelt-chalambar-shiraz-2013-060216

4. WineMarket's Hero Red Pack of 6 + decanter - looks good at $129 if you want variety in your drinking (and you can definitely use one or more of AMEX / cash back / codes to reduce the price even further: Hero Red Mix (6 bottles) + Decanter

5. the Rosemount Traditional Red 12 - was a well balanced, easy drinking mid-week blend I enjoyed at $14.95: http://www.mycellars.com.au/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=1546

Not a personal recommendation, as I haven't tried these. But:

6. the Beelgara Reserve Springview 12 looks tempting at $19.90 https://vinomofo.com/wines/red-wine...-springview-clare-valley-shiraz-2012-cb6bf34e

7. the Innocent Bystander Mule 15 also looks tempting at $17.50 straight from the cellar door. It's getting good reviews from some on this Wine Lovers forum: Mule,Shiraz, McLaren Vale

8. the Schild Estate GMS 13 is trending as the most bought wine with myCellars at $11.95 which indicates it's a good quaffer that people are going back for more on: http://www.mycellars.com.au/catalog...cts_id=1634&osCsid=qrb6k8ttdisv40r5enofk5dfj5

Thanks WineNot and Wozza - a few good looking options there. I'm sure something there will tick the boxes

3 Oceans explorers has been a solid recent purchase, as has the lou miranda golden lion. Not sure if the 3 oceans is back up now, but the Lou Miranda definitely is ($15).

I guess it should be pointed out that these (or at least some of these) are on WineDirect, not VM. If you've never bought from WineDirect there's a referral thread on here for $25 off your first order. Grenache is lovely, Chocolate Factory is good too, though I preferred the Lake Doctor. Unfortunately 20% off all singles in dozen buy just ended at WineDirect.

It was 30% but yeah, they were really good value during the sale. $12.60 for Zonte's, $14 for Dandelion. The lost buoy stuff wasn't good value during 30% off because you got them cheaper during secret offers

The 3 Oceans Explorer is back up. They say 'Restocked' but Ive seen it pop up three times since I bought it the day after boxing day.

I already have a case...thinking of doing another boom while shipping is free, great wine.

Ahh yes, 30%, thanks for correcting. Grenache 2012 was run out cheap at one stage, not even secret label. That's when I got onto it.

Bit O'Heaven Wines Think Outside the Circle Hilltops Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

Vibrant red colour but already lost any purple hues. On first opening very berry nose but opens out in the glass to display green olive and pepper aromas. Initially very tight on the pallet, with rich berry fruit and drying tannins. A long finish.

This is first taste and will report back again once it has had some air.

Just received mine today and couldn't help crack a bottle..

I know you later say you are not a fan...I agree its perhaps not quite the wine I was expecting with all that bling, but I think it will hold up over the next 5 years in the cellar...might put away 6 tonight and sample the rest of the bottle after it has had some air.

other cheapies:
Wolf Blass Red Shiraz Cab 2013 $8.99
Starlite Barossa Shiraz 2009 $9.99
Mike Press 2013 Shiraz $12.99
from Winestar. I can't link coz I'm a noob.

Wynns Siding Shiraz 2012 $10 Kemeneys under a Hidden Label Coonawarra 2012.
holy cough its only $10 i'm going to buy some myself.

I had my first last night and was a little let down but thought it was still decent, certainly not a 'bad' wine. I gave it around 5 hrs in the decanter and polished off the bottle that night. I can certainly see how it is polarizing though.

I left half a bottle in the decanter for 3 or 4 hours.
It opened up a bit, just still not what I was expecting. This is always a frustrating conundrum...drink now as a decent quaffer, or put to bed for a few years hoping it comes good.

Maybe not a conundrum, maybe just need to buy more wine.

I really liked the Jack Estate Shiraz and Maverick Twins Cabernet blend, both >VM$10. On a side note - am I the only one here thinking the Glenlofty shiraz waaay too sweet?

For some reason I kept thinking of pizza when I first tasted it. Definitely improved after 2 hours in the glass. Seems to me an easy/convenient wine for that mid-week pasta/pizza meal. Strange for a cab sav!

I think the 11 was the best, then the 12 but I think you are on the right track with potentially overripe fruit, or too extracted, probably the former.....I need to open up another soon, but nevertheless, like many other sub tenners from the Fo, good quaffing material......for some. Probably for most !

I joined the FO too late for the GL 11 Shiraz but have found the 12 to my liking as an every day quaffer - I'm not finding it too sweet. I grabbed a case of the 13 but have not tried it yet
