It appears VM still have Fox Gordon Brothers and Sisters Cab Sauv! A mate was just offered an FG Cab Sauv for $20 by his broker - he doesn't remember what she said other than that, but I'm guessing it's the Brothers and Sisters.

Wasnt it only $ 10 the other week?

Wrong Fox Gordon Cab Sauv...It's the Fox Gordon King Louis Cab Sauv you are talking about (which was ~$20).

Houdini blend for today is the other Bill Downie cough... the 2013 Thousand Candles. Not as cheap as the 2012 last week.
This one is 55% shiraz, 40% pinot noir and 5% sauv blanc.

Haven't had this and I'm intrigued, but there are a lack of reviews about this wine. Anyone have any thoughts?

I've tried both 1000's that VM have put up, this one is a more solid wine in terms of structure & predicted longevity. And probably tastes a bit more 'conventional' than the pinot-dominant 2012, so probably not quite as divisive in that respect. That touch of SB certainly is noticeable & lifts the wine nicely if somewhat unusually. Though I do like them both, I probably prefer the delicacy of the 2012 but am more confident of the 2013 to improve over time. That said, I passed at getting more of the 2012 @$35 & gave no real thought to buying more of the 2013 when it came back. So I'm clearly prevaricating. Worth giving a go with returns policy or wait & see if Houdini needs salvation!

Thanks for the feedback... I'll weigh it up in the next hour (until the deal ends) and see what happens!

Are you looking for professional reviews? or reviews here? First offered on VM on 30th April, so I guess not that many people have had the opportunity to sample it yet.

Pro reviews - CM gave it 93 in Wine Companion, TS 97, and CM (again) gave it 92+ on WineFront

I see VM are now flogging the Seppelt Chalambar 2014 Shiraz. The "13 generally must be almost all gone. I must pick up a cheap case of the "13 at some stage before it does because at under $20 a bottle that "13 Chalambar is a fabulous bargain. Interested to know what the 14 is like.

With a 95pts from CM....it has my attention.

I wonder whether this would ever get to be a Vinomofo line.
This is my attempt to segue into something that came thru, and makes for an interesting read considering the idea of a super premium wine product. Someone mentioned an announcement coming from Cullen shortly, the Mcguigans big bad boy, and here is this new idea. Again, marketing or prestige.

How We Crafted One of The World’s Finest Shiraz

The Pioneer Shiraz Exceptional Parcel Release represents a bold step in the Taylor family’s journey to craft distinctive wines that rival the world’s best. The Pioneer Shiraz 2012 showcases the way in which a superior wine can be produced through a very delicate balance of meticulous attention and care, expert skill and know-how, and supreme craftsmanship.

Just something different to consider out there.

As an edit, I would like to add the penultimate - I just love that word - paragraph on their shhhpeilll.

Each bottle of The Pioneer Shiraz is hand-labelled and individually numbered, and packaged in a beautiful luxury gift box. Each bottle also comes with a hand-sewn booklet containing details of the wine, including the history, vintage conditions, vinification and maturation.

We all should be reading a lot more these days, however, in the Nice Wines thread, JohnM's new book would tell an interesting tale.

Yep, marketing again.

Any ideas of the 2015 McLaren vale 40 down to about 13 shiraz I think it is? Great value...sure. Very young....sure. Full bodied...sure. Quality..dunno? Helllp
