Vinomofo Wine Deals

Spring is approaching - time for some Rizza!

Did some research with this - Mt Langhi is $35 so no, Montara is $22.99, Bests is 11% Alcohol

Any other options?

I know we're talking VM here but I've been suckered in a few times with GWD's 'buy one get one free' offers and agree, being lumbered with 23-24 bottles of something barely passable is not doable in my book...Probaly glad I lingered with my finger on the trigger long enough to miss out on this one!
Two a night will deplete your stock levels nicely, and deplete your liver as well. Whenever you get a VM urge, just get one of your older nicer ones and drink that. It does two things.firstly, you won't have to worry about wine that's turned, and secondly, you haven't opened your wallet. Win, win..

Another Mt Langhi Cliff Edge - they've had other vintages up before

You've described my modus operandi beautifully BF (obviously NOT the two bottles a night concept), this whole blackmarket scene has changed the way I buy and imbibe wine, only issue is that temptation is always lurking around the corner, not sure though that the latest minty-fresh toothpaste offering is enticing me, speaking as a red drinker....

Beware, this 3 yr old may have entered its closed period, which most rieslings do after a couple of years. At this point, it may seem a bit unbalanced.

Cheers for the heads up - cant see myself sitting on these then - at what age are they back in the frame generally speaking? Have some of the Dry Dam 2008 Riesling which seems in the drinking window?

Kohen - it can be from 8 to 10 years, though for some not necessarily that long. I haven't tried any Mt Langhi rieslings but I know Best's also from the same region and theirs are lovely when young (probably better than the older ones). You could always go for it, try one and send 'em back if you don't like.

the smell of benzene in Rieslings.....what are peoples thoughts, and I would appreciate a PM in this regard..........................is it a characteristic of some................does it evolve........................does it diminish? cheers.

strictly not on topic, but in a way , some VM deals surely fit in.

very impressive work by the great man Kim and written in a very easy to digest manner. However, some folks probably don't mind the scent. Others may treat it the same as cork taint. And let's not have an all out abuse session on that one.

I ask the seasoned Rizza folk who have drank a river of the stuff to comment and enlighten me. I love a nice Riesling, I love a nice anything really but I do like to discover other people's taste worlds as well.

For something a tad different, has anyone had a pipers brook chardonnay 2014 or other ? I know earlier this month VM had it. Steady, you probably have had their pinot but what about this?

Kerosene and lanolin are aromas that develop with a few years of bottle age. Pretty common with Clare and Eden Valley Rieslings, but also some European ones. I like it adding some complexity, but should never dominate the nose.

If you dislike that characteristic, just drink your Riesling young.

I've not tried any of their Chardonnay - I was put off Chardonnay in general by heavy oak so really haven't tried many.

That said I have recently tried a couple of unwoodded offerings that I could get into.

Then glenlofty is great for the price, I ended up with three cases this time round and have none left, been the go to wine for mid week quaffer and weekend BYO with friends, anyone who had some was impressed. Have restrained myself as it reappeared recently.

On a side note, tonight's bottle comes courtesy of Vinomofo, a Hannah's swing Shiraz...its been a few months since this was available and it is still an excellent wine, a lot of sweet fruit but very pleasant, if only all the fo purchases were like this.

Must say if that was $99 it's not a bad haul. I think most of the salvation cases that posters have socialised the contents of on here have been fairly good deals. More young wine to add to your midweek quaffer pile....

I haven't but My Wine Guy also has it for $27 (pm me for free delivery code)

Alternatively, 2014 Margaret River chardonnays such as Stella Bella and Xanadu are well-rated for a similar if not cheaper price

Any in particular? Old-style Aussies? Good chardonnay is never over-oaked :)

Everyone that I've come across that claims to be ABC always seems to have the same complaint - chardy tastes like over-oaked mess. That's what shat chardonnays do to compensate for being shat - over oak. Always funny to see reactions when they try quality chardy.

Way off topic but if you can't beat em, join em ;)

vedder50, what is ABC ?

qaz, I cannot remember specifics but yes it would have been old style cheap Aussie stuff - I think maybe a diamond label Rosemount if there was/is such a beast.
