Vinomofo Wine Deals

Re: Vinomofo Wine Deals - Squid Ink

I've just been scouring the net trying to find out its identity

I don't subscribe to the Wine Companion (or any other pay-for-view site) so I'm not privy to that info,

You'd be better to not waste your time and just wait for the answer to appear here from people who do spend a little money to save wasting their own time.

For those who want a "lite" experience for free and have an iPhone, you can download & install the Wineosphere app which includes reviews from Wine Front. App is made by them so all legit.

I don't but the wife does, hmmmm will she or won't she? Maybe if I couched it in terms of trawling the net for NZ Savvies she might go for it...

It's comments like the above Redbigot that make me feel like never coming on this forum again, thanks for the put-down.

What if I have a hueway or Hawaii phone or whatever it is? is there a free app for that or do I have to keep pestering AC?

I like the good doc have put a bit of a halt to the Vinomofo purchases preferring a little more eclectic stuff, and probably more quality stuff. Don't take this the wrong way, one of my Belgravia 2011 guwertzes that I paid nineteen a case for, or was it fourteen, is a great representation of this varietal so I aint so coughy to think that spending a lot more gets me a lot more all the time. pedigree I guess, something my mates tell me I lack. They also tell me that my family tree also had too many dogs peeing on it. However, I didn't mind forking out seventy five five ninety five for the vintage moet. maybe not in the same league as penegals house selling mates, but a damn good gesture from them regardless. I wonder what my brother and I will get if we sell - maybe an arras? or that yellow yellowglen that I am fond off. Oh, it's the thought that counts after all.

Apologies, it wasn't meant that way.

But that is one reason many people come to this particular thread, to get the information they don't have the tools to find themselves and to get the benefit from those that do.

There seems little reason to spend time searching yourself further than a quick google search on a tasting note if you choose not to equip yourself with the best tools for the job. There appear to be plenty here that do have access to the relevant information and generously make it available, so why not just go with the flow?

Re: Vinomofo Wine Deals - Squid Ink

Opened another (LaBoeuf dozen content) - the Richard HAMILTON 2014 Shiraz, to me - a big bodied Shiraz, plenty of mouth puckering tannins, not big on the nose, will try the 2nd bot. with some roast beef or leg of lamb/hogget (home prod.).

Would buy the SCHILD Shiraz any day in preference.

edit- just a newby here and appreciate the input by more experienced folk, try to feed a little back into the thread, thanks everyone ! :D

Well if it wasn't meant that way then perhaps you should look at your word choice because you've just done the same thing in the comment above, "if you choose not to equip yourself with the best tools for the job" is a pejorative statement i.e. one that implies criticism. You have no idea of my financial commitments one way or the other and the fact that I have looked at subscribing at various times to various sites including your own has only been stymied by my resources.

I can only recommend less Whining and more wining. RB offers good advice regardless if whether you feel a bit touchy about it. And if you don't like the tone of his advice then don't take it.

Re: Vinomofo Wine Deals - Squid Ink

At the risk of sounding peevish AC I don't subscribe to the Wine Companion (or any other pay-for-view site) so I'm not privy to that info, having said that, I'm, glad someone else does!

You wanted to know how Kohen had deduced the identity of the wine: there's the answer to your question.

Re: Vinomofo Wine Deals - Squid Ink

I only have two kids...or two that I know of, and when we were doing the ultrasounds with numero uno, the question went out as to whether we wanted to know the sex. Both of us loved a surprise and out popped some plumbing. 21 years ago this Thursday to be precise.

Now second time around allows complacency and allows a mental process of pre planning to ensue so the temptation is there for many to peek early. Not for us and we went with the flow.

Life is like a box of wrapped chocolates not knowing what's underneath or to come. Same with the Fo. W and D, you are just spoiling the surprise for yourself.

But unlike a nasty kid, you can't send those back !

Oh come on now, the very fact that you're an active participant on this thread indicates that you have some disposable income and you are, in fact, making a choice on how to spend it; your inference that using the word "choose" indicates a personal attack is on you.

Back on topic, I'm afraid I can't agree beefarmer! The hassle of organising a pickup and the disappointment of receiving a wine that is far from what I'd anticipated means that I'm with the others who prefer to know (or at least have a good idea!) what I'm buying before it turns up! But then, I also found out the sex of my son before he was born ;)

Re: Vinomofo Wine Deals - Squid Ink

Gosh, some of the personal comments are a bit rough.. FWIW I'm not a subscriber either.

I received Maverick Billich and 15' cab sav last week. Haven't tried them yet, but the billich bottles looks nice. I did share a 13' cab blend and wynn's black label though which were both fantastic.

I might try one of the 15' cab's but I'm thinking they will be better in 2+ years?

I liked your first response before you decided to take offence and edited the post, I thought you understood the point I was making.

We are literally talking about the price of 2-4 bottles of wine per year, to subscribe to The Wine Front and The Wine Companion. You are either serious about wanting to find out the identity of mystery wines yourself or you are not, no point griping about time spent not finding the answer if you aren't equipped for the task - applies in many aspects of life/work, not just this inconsequential aspect of discretionary spending.

BTW, there is no shame or criticism implied in just waiting for those with the knack and access to come up with the answer, there are enough people already with the time and inclination and the ability to do it and share.

So are you paying for the 21st party, or are they paying themselves?

you betcha...fully catered for, all the VM plonk anybody can wish for, plus of course the 2006 vintage Moet which I bought sunday night, after the 2008 on sat night.
so what will he get for his 21st....crikes, I hate spoiling him that much but for a time, he will be like dad and have two cars. his costly old mazda and a car that has not been used much in the last few years. ten year old with 42K clicks.
not to mention the Gucci cufflinks and the Seiko watch. plus a lunch out and anything else that's reasonable.

our birthdays are only weeks apart, so you would probably be wondering what I would like for mine? that's organized. a dinner out and a pair of moccasins will do just nicely. plus a favourite victory in the derby and life is grand.

epsilon tempranillos............maverick 2013 gsm....................and from elsewhere, Belgravia guwurtzes which are beautiful.
throw in bit of chardy, taltarni brut as well...and probably the dovetail pinot recently from cellarmasters as was the taltarni.

now, on the big gathering in mid November due to his sisters vce commitments, moet wont be flowing, but will be this Friday night with a more intimate family at home dinner. he is actually working on his birthday from 3-9, so Friday it is.
last I saw of him was him going out and staying in the city with a few mates for sat and sun night. his 21st has started early.

Re: Vinomofo Wine Deals - Squid Ink

The VinoMofo McLaren Vale Tempranillo 2015 https://vinomofo.com/wines/red-wine/mof_-contraband-deal-tempranillo-2015 matches the Sam Kim review for Allegiance The Fighter, VM had the 2014 @ $8.90 a while back.

Incidentally, Tony Keys reviews are (mostly?) available on his site for free, but searching is not easy.
Sam Kim is a subscription site in NZ Wine Orbit: Sam Kim : Independent Extensive Reviews featuring New Zealand Wines and Wines of the World and has good search options. It seems more wines on VM feature his scores, maybe because of the move into the NZ market, maybe because he will review just about any wine sent to him if you pay his $34 per wine fee for doing so. Well done, sounds like it will be wonderful. Maverick has become a favourite amongst our families as well.
