Vinomofo Wine Deals

Re: Vinomofo secret wine deals

Just received a email for VM mixed Salvation Case advertised at "up to 50-80% off" for $109.
https://www.vinomofo.com/wines/mixe...+-+Salvation&utm_medium=email&cluid=AU-505885

Seems like it will be a lucky dip of what you might get. "We can’t tell you what will be in each case because we don’t even know. What we can say is there’ll be up to $500 worth of value ...", but in line with the case price of $109 it might only be $218 worth of value.

I only gamble once a year and that is on the Melbourne Cup.

And you end up tearing the betting slip. LOL
Hi prozac having bought two previously I can honestly tell you you will get one really great wine and the rest is made up of returns and stock they cant sell to anyone. Simply its an exercise in spending money and being disappointed as you will find all the rubbish wines have been pointed out on this forum. Its up to you its your money. Cheers Rug

That's the best tip I've had all year Rug. I'll save my money for the Cup . ;)

Been discussed many times on here. These are nothing more than VM pawning off the cough others return. Order at your own peril.

Re: Vinomofo secret wine deals

Like Rug I'm happy with the Haselgrove Il Padrone Shiraz 2016, drinking better than I expected for a young wine. I'm sending the Amelia Park Shiraz back, not to my taste, confirms that WA reds aren't really my thing. I have ordered the Shirvington Shiraz based on the recommendations up thread - cheers.

Curious to hear your evaluation of the Amelia Park without having to go into tasting notes, do you prefer a larger-framed red (noting the Shirvington purchase) ;) ? cheers, W&D

Hi Sharon and welcome aboard, still trying to ascertain just what it is about the Amelia Park that has divided the punters so markedly, some have embraced it very enthusiastically and others like yourself haven't been overly impressed, any impressions you would like to share? cheers, W&D

Are we comparing apples to apples here?

From my limited sample size, I don't think the AP wines of a couple of years ago (orange labelled wines) are the same as the recent Ironstone range. I stand to be corrected,.

The AP collection (orange label) shiraz and cab/merlot are in the "back up the ute" category, while the Ironstone (I only have the cab/merlot) is in the "return to sender" category (will be my 2nd return in 20+VM purchases if I finally decide to do it).

VM has marketed the ironstone and the 'orange label' as one and the same. I even recall a member asking VM directly and being told its the exact as comes through the cellar door. The BM page talks of it being a previous favorite vino, yet fails to advertise the 2014 shiraz 'orange label' JH score, so is it really the same? Amelia Parks indicate it as being the same on their webpage stating "also sold under the ironstone label" Who really knows in the end. Just an ok drop for me either way. Dont particuly like the meaty nose and not a very distinctive palate.

Hi chonka if the ironstone Amelia Park is the same as the orange label; why is it not on their website? However it is listed as being out of stock at Langtons. Something is not right! If the Ironstone is the export label where was the wine made for? And judging by comments it cant be the same as the normal orange label. Normally I would say a made for VM wine. I cannot see why a good winery would want to tarnish their name.Cheers Rug

I've not sampled either iteration so I'm completely in the dark, having tried a number of WA reds in recent months I'm firmly of the opinion that the West is capable of "bringing home the bacon" so it seems unfortunate that an otherwise quality producer has dropped the ball with this product.

VM marketing has been held up to be shonky at various times and at others downright deceptive, it does make you reassess the "failed export order" style of advertising and only go for those wines that have an established track record, thanks for giving a short appraisal of the wine in question.

Couldn't agree more Rug, VM are capable of moving a lot of product but if your brand suffers then it is only for short-term gain....

It actually is on the Amelia Park website. Right at the bottom of the Shiraz and Cab/Merlot product pages they state "Also sold under our export Ironstone Shiraz label." Would indicate its the same ptoduct. One of the reason I actually made the purchase. Maybe it is the same, just a bit meh for me. I have some Castelli on the way to have another WA to compare against.

I apologize for missing that chonka which only makes it sound more like an export product for a particular market (china/asian) and thus slightly different in how it was made and why so many people returned it and it was on auction at Langtons. The earlier year wines 2012;2013 were raved about and the winery sold out. For comparison I would compare Woodlands Cabernet Merlot as normal price is about the same. Cheers Rug

Re: Vinomofo secret wine deals

Personally quite enjoying the Amelia Ironstone Cab/Merlot and surprised to see people sending it back, but we all have different palates I guess.

Looks like the Hay Shed Hill Cabernet is back with a new vintage. Very tempted but still have a few cases on the 2012/13 of this that I haven't even opened yet.....

I actually drank a 2014 last night and quite enjoyed it. Great value at that price if that is the same wine
