Confirming it is the 2014 vintage of the Fortune Shiraz.
Thanks very much for the confirmation. it is interesting that 2014 is not on their website. Hopefully you get to taste one soon to see what its like!
Looks like from you first photo background - you have a lot of homework to do!

VM also mistakenly stated 14.5% vs 14.7% alc as an be seen from your photo

BLACK MARKET BAROSSA SHIRAZ 2018 (pre-arrival)

98 points Wine Advocate (
Joe Czerwinski)

This mega premium shiraz screams luxury and decadence. Maximum power and intensity has been achieved here with the premium fruit being dried on racks prior to fermentation similar to that of the Amarone style of Italy. No expense is spared here as the wine then spends 24 months in new French oak. The wine is tremendously full bodied with fine, silky tannins combined with concentrated ripe plums and blueberries wrapped in chocolate, spice and liquorice.

Alc: 15.8%
cellaring: now-2035

Down from $150 per bottle to just $64.90 in 6 packs
(estimated dispatch next week 10th March)

BLACK MARKET BAROSSA SHIRAZ 2018 (pre-arrival)

94 points Wine Advocate (
Joe Czerwinski)

In many ways the little brother of the above wine. This shiraz again delivers exceptional generosity and complexity with a very similar approach to winemaking. The structure and fruit intensity is again turbo charged here, with the winemakers' use of the Amarone style by partially drying grapes prior to ferment.
Expect quintessential Barossa power and body with a silky and smooth texture. Fruit character is led by ripe plums and dark berries leading to a long finish complemented by creamy vanilla and spice.

Oak: French, 12 months
Alc: 15.5%
Cellaring: now-2030

Down from $50 per bottle to just $25 in 6 packs (estimated dispatch next week 10th March)

BLACK MARKET SHIRAZ VIOGNIER 2018 (pre-arrival)

95 points Wine Advocate (Joe Czerwinski)

This is a big, full-bodied wine with some serious power. A bouquet of ripe blackberry and blueberry leap from the glass followed by menthol, cedar, anise and sage. Incredible complexity on the palate as hints spice dance around its core of rich, bold blackfruit. The length is impressively persistent with hints of espresso and dusty oak spice.
An addition to the cellar that will continue to evolve and develop for many years to come.
Shiraz and long ripened Viognier grapes are hand-picked and co-fermented.

Oak: 24 months new French oak
Cellaring: 2022 - 2035
Alc: 15.5%

Down from $120 per bottle to just $54.90 in 6 packs (estimated dispatch next week 10th March)

I am pretty sure they are Hobbs Vintners

So pulled a trigger on a case as it is right up my alley.
Not sure how exclusive they are, I reckon you should be able to call in to request one if interested.

I am probably wrong, but my logic suggests that the higher alcohol is the by-product of the particular wine making technique that was used making this wine, drying some of the fruit before crushing (less water - more concentration). I enjoy Amarone wines and was curious how well it would work with a local Shiraz - hence the purchase!

Have you tried the Primo Estate Joseph Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot Moda? Could be up your ally.

I never had it and from a brief research it sounds like an absolutely stunning wine. Would most definitely be right up my alley. Does it ever come up on the Vinomofo site?

Not to my knowledge, but then again, I don't follow VM much these days. It's available from Qantas Wine though.

link?

This is the actual wine that I purchased. it was $25 vs the $50 RRP. They also have what appears to be Gregor Shiraz ($65 vs $150 RRP) and Tango Shiraz Viognier ($55 vs $120 RRP).

Given that I have never tried their wines, I thought I would dip my toes into the water getting the smaller brother of Gregor Shiraz (screwcap enclosure).

My basic researched revealed very positive reports and given it is Barossa 2018 that was meant to be a cracker year and the Amarone style shiraz made me pull the trigger on this one.

I am pretty sure it can be gotten by just calling them direct.

Looks like Haselgrove The Lear Shiraz 2019 is back at VM

I can confirm by receiving it this week. Hence the dilemma - I really think it is way to young to try so want to wait for at least a year. Thus forfeiting my option to return it back if it is not up to my liking. Can also confirm it has a screwcap enclosure FWIW.

So disappointed. First of all the cork fell to pieces so I had to end up straining the bottle. And then it had no resemblance of the 2013 vintage I bought last year. It didn’t have the depth or richness - it seemed unexpectedly acidic. I’ve never sent anything back to VM - have bought over 100 bottles. I’ve thrown away the box already. Could I still return the 5 closed bottles? Thanks in advance for any advice!

I believe you can. Just start a live chat with them and explain the situation.
