Vinomofo Wine Deals

Number of factors.

1. High alcohol level 15.5%
2. Late picked Viognier that would make the wine more extracted/concentrated
3. New French oak.

So might not age too well.

I was quite tempted however didn't want to commit to a 6 pack - would have bought a bottle to try.

I purchased a bottle of thier Tin Lids Shiraz Cabernet to try the brand and see how I go.

I believe their Gregor Shiraz 2018 received quite high accolades from Robert Parker Wine Advocate.

EDIT

This is Gregor Shiraz from VM
98 points from Robert Parker Wine Advocate is not to sneeze at
I somehow missed this, but did anyone end up buying?

Actually something seemed familiar and now it recall opening a bottle of this at a friend's. We first drank a $40 Pinot which I really enjoyed and then opened this because it was apparently a gift and it didn't click to me. I recall thinking I really enjoyed the Pinot 🤣

Btw the Heritage is actually on eBay now. I'm a little annoyed the broker didn't mention that after I told him I was looking at some Barolos because of the discount.

I just received another email with a deal-.

Double Gold Medal Sommeliers Choice Awards San Francisco 2020

2018 was a great vintage which produced fruit of exceptional quality and concentration. Barrel selection was a critical element of the blending process and only well integrated barrels of the highest quality were even considered for the final product.

This Shiraz is deep crimson in colour with complex aromas of roasted coffee, dark forest fruits, toasted almonds and spices. The rich and complex palate is superbly balanced and delivers dark chocolate framed with toasty spice notes, caramel, black pepper and herbs. Bold and powerful with plush, silky tannins and a stunningly long finish.
A fantastic addition to the cellar that will continue to evolve and develop over the next 15 years!

Oak treatment: 50% new French hogsheads, 50% old American hogsheads
Alcohol: 14.9%
Cellaring: Drink now until 2036

Down from $65 /btl to just $29.90 in 6 packs

Sounds like Kirrihill Wines. This is likely to be E.B.'s 'The Squire' Shiraz. More: Incipere

I must say I havent had that many reds from Clare, however the ones that i have had were very good.
I remember a Pikes Los Triasomethingorrather and it was a Shiraz Tempranilo blend. Better than good that one from a couple of years ago. I know there were one or two more, but just goes to show Maccas and the Barossa go alright.

However saying that, I started on my serious wine journey using Winestate as a reference back in 1987 and went for the 4 and 5 star wines then. Only had one dud. So a 98 to me is going to be good. Great? Who knows, but the discount is good.

It's actually up on eBay, so 20-22% discount off $65

It's funny, because that Pinot I drank while I was eating was extremely good. It was more medium bodied, good fruit, acidic and then I felt like the Shiraz was lighter, and didn't have much depth. I'm ridiculously bad at describing wine, or I can't appreciate high quality wine. It is very young tho, being 2018.

I actually am buying some $15/30/45 so I can test myself, and find a sweet spot for my buying.

is that RRP $15/30/45 or after discounts?
That's tricky!

My goal is to buy decent drops I can find from local cellars, or like Nick's. I'd rather for this try stick to what I can easily get access too, rather than one off discount buys etc

I'm trying to organise like a monthly wine night with mates, that way it's easier to try 3 wines a night.

Probably will begin with Pinot, and/or cool climate Shiraz. I would ask for recommendations, but not sure where too without annoying people here. I'll just decided via Nick's ratings, Vivino etc

Wine appreciation is a very personal journey , there are probably as many satisfied palates that buy on Thursdays at Dans, as there are eclectic adventurers scouring the web , tastings by the hundred , a 1000 bottle cellar and a budget to match.

VM lucky dip with a 1 in 100 chance of scoring a Grange. Any punters out there giving this a go?
Back of the envelope analysis suggests the fair value of such lottery ticket of about $8-$10 (grange or philosophy)

It seems to be just about perfectly priced or overpriced a tad depending on your preference for the rest of the wines offered.

Not tempted having just bought a six pack of Philosophy on eBay for $40 per bottle.

Just spent $960 after the 22% off last night on eBay.

Is there a link?
