Vinomofo Wine Deals

Overpriced. You can get RWT any many other fantastic wines for less than that. But it probably is a pretty good wine, I personally don't think any wine is worth more than $150 but that is just my opinion :)

Well, I don't think RWT is so fantastic, this is actually a very good example of an overpriced wine IMO ;)

Oh don't get me wrong, I would not pay over $100 for a bottle of great vintage RWT, but I do think it is a pretty decent drop and more of a collectors wine and likely go up in value over this particular wine.

Speaking of RWT, never had the St Henri Shiraz but the raving about the 2010 vintage had me seriously tempted. Impossible to find by the time I started looking though. Anyone tried it?

Crikey some hard markers here - any of you guys who are over their RWT I know where there is a cellar with a bit of space to accomodate any unwanted.

I was lucky to buy 6 bottles on epiQure when the price was still reasonable (should have bought more). I've enjoyed drinking 2 of them so far and will keep the rest. My friend managed to get one bottle on online auction last week for $135!

I have a half case in my cellar but wont try the first bottle for another year. I picked it up as soon as it was released and paid around $75 a bottle from memory, supplies sold out very quickly and I have heard they have been selling for up to $120 on auction sites (I have not verified the validity of this claim though).

We paid around $72...

Those auction prices are insane. I seriously considered buying a bucket load and selling at auction. Landed up paying $70 direct from Penfolds through the Kalimna Club.

There are plenty of people out there who will pay well over $100 for 100 points wine with the brand name Penfolds on the bottle.

The St. Henri 2010 is overrated IMHO. Had two bottles so far and while it's far too young right now I can't see it worth 100 points some critics were giving. Like most Penfolds, there are better wines for that price (or cheaper) I'd rather get. I came away with the same opinion of the 2012 RWT & Bin 389, i.e. nice but not worth the price and overrated reviews.

I guess a lot of buyers could be "investing" in a potential return at auctions years down the track. But I doubt it'll be be another Bin 707 where it was ~$120 10 years ago and now ~$340+. Interesting read for those thinking of wine investing:
Just drink it: why wine investing usually isn't worth it

Personally would think you are drinking the St Henri way too early to make an informed judgement but agree with the general principle re Penfolds, I largely don't buy Penfolds anymore for exactly this reason, plenty of other much better value (and equal quality) wineries out there.

How do you think critics get their "informed" judgements? Time-machines?

I think I made a very good investment with an excellent potential return: I can't resist myself buying another case of Glenlofty Shiraz 2011 last night, the third in total.

I am sure it still has the potential to improve if I cellar it for 2-3 years! :)

At $7.8 per bottle from Vinomofo, it worth every penny I spent. I am wondering what it will cost for the 2012 vintage.

I disagree. I think for the $70/bottle I paid, its a brilliant wine and excellent value for money. There really aren't too many other wines in the same style that compare.

Well critics have drunk many wines over a very long time and hence yes, they do have a fairly good understanding of how wines tend to age over time. No time machine but they can compare how similar wines have aged.

But even critics don't get it anything like 100% right, there are plenty of wines that critics have rated highly based on their supposed ability to age which haven't turned out quite as expected and in some cases are downright disappointments despite early high ratings.

alc. content doesn't match. on seppelt's website its 14.6, cellering till 2025 vs 2027. vinomofo can be misleading sometimes but otherwise its a very close guess. i can't find jeremy oliver's 96 point rating anywhere. if we can match that then it could be it.

I found a few sites that displayed the Ida as having 14.5%, but did notice on Seppelt they have indicated 14.6...go figure. RRP is the same, they have been selling Seppelt lately and cellaring....well.....
