Re AP: to clarify, my most recent delivery I happened to be home but the carton had clearly marked safe drop instructions. I went to their website & registered that request when I had a tracking number, so it seems to me that they do not honour the request via the merchant, but will do so if asked directly(?) They appear to have a recurring safe drop status that can be activated. That said, am not keen to experiment ...

BLACK MARKET DEAL Grüner Veltliner 2017 = Geoff Hardy very nice as always
French Island Vineyards Pinot Noir 2010 (sold out) Very good, loads of life ahead, good to discover
Tamburlaine Reserve Semillon 2012 Still very youthful crisp & citrusy, interesting to see how it develops
Patrick Estate Grown Pinot Noir 2015 A bit thin & confectioned, probably over irrigated or overcropped. Not bad for the price

Fascinating to observe how traffic has faltered and nearly stalled on a number of threads since the "revamp", I guess it will pick up but it doesn't feel like quite the same place to hang-out (even the "smilies" feel slightly OTT)....

Stopped getting emails - my bookmarks were suddenly broken... Was wondering why my bank account was increasing, then i realised I hadn't been splurging on vino.

I can't recall any VM wines I've bought being heat affected.

I got a couple of bottles in a Wine direct mixed dozen and was completely underwhelmed, the wine had been hyped up so substantially (not to mention the purported RRP) that I was expecting the duck's guts, and like you, won't be seeking it out again...

Me 2. I was quite disappointed when I finally got some. They are sitting in a box for a few years.

That's the one. It isn't the first time either. It comes up fairly often. I remember on one of the Blue Poles offering a it was a fairly common complaint as well.

The query is re source of stock (eg possibly via Hong Kong), definitely not via the Australian importer, and possible heat damage in transit from O/S rather than after delivery to Vinomofo.

I've read/commented on the thread in your forum RB But whilst there is speculation of where its come from, there hasn't been any complaint about actual heat damage from what I can see.

So, to reply to the original poster:
- a lot of people here have bought wine from VM, and most of it has not been imports - it's been local Australian stuff. I don't recall anyone complaining about heat issues (other that localized issues where the NexDay guy has had it in their van on a hot day, or its been left on someone's front door step in the sin)
- I've personally bought ~dozen cases of imported stuff from VM. None of which have been heat affected as far as I can tell. That's not to say that this Barolo isn't, because we really have no idea of what the provenance of each lot they sell is. Speaking to the broker doesn't get you any real detail of whether it's been sourced and shipped directly from a winery, or sourced from some other 3rd party.

That said, VM offer a "no questions asked" money back guarantee (which I've used a few times), so try a bottle and if you don't' like it, send it back. (and post your review here!)

Thanks SD, as always any insight into how wine purchases stack up after delivery taste-wise is always appreciated...

I'm slowly adapting to this brave new world, I guess many of us were completely in the dark regarding the wide-spread changes of the 'new and improved' forum but it's a case of suck it up or move on (can't find a smilie to end the post that sums up resignation)....

I actually took one of my bottles along to a shared Xmas day lunch with friends and family and was mildly embarrassed that it tasted pretty ordinary alongside wines of lesser purported price and provenance!

Interesting. I have some of the 2010 Tahbilk 1860s vines that VM are offering, and mine are under screwcap. I wonder if it's the vineyard experimenting with different enclosures.

I'm not sure when they changed from cork to screwcap.
A couple of years ago I struck a 1998 that was badly tainted, they replaced it and my remaining two others under cork with 2008 vintage under screwcap.
They probably still do some under cork for export or the die hard cork fans.

Tahbilk Museum Release Marsanne 2011 is drinking beautifully still very vibrant & crisp but also showing some aged complexity. Has developed more quickly than the 1927 iteration. Seems to have been a targeted offering but still available ...
Chateau Sainte-Croix Charmeur Rosé 2016 is a really beautiful pretty wine - the best VM rose for me by far. Oz makers just don't seem to get how lovely these delicate wines are - less skin contact, let the fruit sing!

Tahbilk Museum Release Marsanne 2011 is drinking beautifully still very vibrant & crisp but also showing some aged complexity. Has developed more quickly than the 1927 iteration. Seems to have been a targeted offering but still available ...
Chateau Sainte-Croix Charmeur Rosé 2016 is a really beautiful pretty wine - the best VM rose for me by far. Oz makers just don't seem to get how lovely these delicate wines are - less skin contact, let the fruit sing!
