Virgin Amex Velocity Platinum card now 110k points

Definitely haven't reached the max as they were only my 3rd and 4th referrals (through word of mouth).

The first two bonuses posted fine, and like you said August 21 my points for spend stopped posting (for a couple of days... they are fine now) but still haven't received the next two lots of bonus points.

After emailing amex, their initial response was that they didn't use my link, I called BS, amex then asked to provide the last 5 digits on their cards plus their name and postcode, they responded again that they didn't apply using my link.... again BS because I helped them do it.

So for anybody else in the same boat, I was polite and insisted whenever I got a response (saying there was nothing they could do) that I wanted my complaint elevated... i finally got a response today...

the last thing i said to them was

"Hi there,Your response is unacceptable.
I physically sat with them and helped them do the application, to make sure that my link was used. If something isn't working on your end, why should I be penalized after going to the trouble of referring them and bringing you two new customers?
If you cannot remedy the situation, I will have to pursue further action and lodge a complaint with fair trading."

Was i being unreasonable? perhaps.. i dunno... i was quite p*ssed off at the time...

Only have two referrals - must be just my mum and sister who applied through my link. Ah well, so I wasn't able to convince anyone else to apply through my link - that's the way it goes. An extra 40k is never unwelcome, as was the 110k in the first place anyway.
 
I was pleased when family and friends signed up for this offer. Out of Perth it can mean a family of four can go to Melbourne or Sydney (with one referral 20,000) for $349 plus 4 lots of about $35. Now this is less than $500 for that family which is a real bargain. It has been an interesting bargain offer and must be costing Virgin and American Express a heap if you work on the points having a cost of at least one cent each.

I need to say a HUGE thanks to some kind souls out there who used my referral link in a previous post of mine. It means a lot to me to have received these extra points. It really does.
I honestly wasn't expecting anything, and was fine with that given I already received my 110k thanks to a referral link from here, but I figured I'd check anyhow since all you guys were mentioning you'd received yours. I was totally blown away when I saw bonus points!!

Interesting development:

My wife's card had lots of referrals due to her being one of the early adopters and signing up many work colleagues.

She signed up 23 people for a total of 460,000. (Crazy I know!)

She transferred most of those velocity points to me via family transfer and hasn't used her card since.

The statement and transfer date is on Monday but this appeared on the amex points page:

'Refer a friend 20000 points bonus' -40,000

It actually showed a minus 40,000 rather than the + 40,000 like the others.

Seems like they are overhauling their computer system to take back the overpaid accounts.

If she has no points in her velocity account what will happen to this 'negative 40,000'??

EDIT: OR just like the 'velocity auto' appears a negative, does this mean she signed up 2 more people but now it's getting transferred straight to velocity??.

So confused.

Wow she's really lucky. I don't know why she would sign up people above the cap and waste the referral bonuses though.

Would've been better off letting one of the people she referred use that up so it didn't go to waste.

I would suggest that AFFer's here lucky to have hit the cap or are getting near it to update their posts and delete their links so the referral bonuses don't get wasted.

The reports in this forum suggest it can take some time for the referrals to come through as well so if you are nearthe cap and think you're about to hit the cap you night want to consider deleting your referral link so its not wasted and so other AFFer's can share in the love.

I hope they extend the offer but given the apparent popularity I am expecting it to be either canned or downgraded.

I think our payroll officer and several others got multiple referral 20,000 points at a time.

This morning got a nice double surprise:
3x20k from extra referrals I wasn't expecting, so thank you to those that used my link.

And the 110k hit my wife's account which she activated 3 days ago and made the first spend!
 
Further email received from Amex last night -

"Our marketing team has requested to wait for 10 weeks (my bolding) from the Card application approval date. The bonus points should be issued to your account automatically."

"Just in case you do not receive the points once the timeframe has elapsed, please email us and we will issue it manually."

At least I have acknowledgement that the points are on their way. Fortunately, I don't need them in the next few weeks.

Hmmmmph…..

Just checked my account, and points have posted. Either Amex stuffed up or someone else used my referral, because there is 2 x 20,000 points :D:D
