Virgin Australia applied for ADL/OOL-PER-DPS. Failed due International Terminal Requirement

I’m all for anything gets another VA 737 service on the ADL-PER route when we have to cop the junk they send here now 🤣
Yeah, you only just need some ID (or even your passport) and subject to international screening requirements for a good ol' VA ADL-PER 737 leg ;)

wonder how much SA wine will be seized at international screening in Adelaide? Fortunately WA also has wine.

The fact that y'all want VA to set up an international lounge in Per for a very slim international presence yet MEL has 5 International flights.
Shared lounge will suffice. 🤪 Plenty of other carriers throughout the world do that. Also I think CNS should be number 1 on the list for that. Quite a few international.from there. As Batik allow access for their biz in Aspire at T1 PER I think its not unreasonable for VA to do likewise.

Indeed...mind you you can bring sweet nothing of anything into WA....frustrating sometimes.

Per Cairns Airport there was supposed to be a third party operator: Reef Lounge, but that is closed for the foreseeable future, thus no lounge access to any international J passengers. Only Singapore Airlines (then operating as SilkAir) and Air Niugini was using that lounge prior to the Covid shutdowns of 2020.

Great op then for VA to open lounge at CNS as they have quite a few international flights then recoup some money by letting other carriers such as "partners" SQ use it! They just need to think outside the box. Something that seems to be missing....under the umbrella of "it's all too hard"..."nah can't be bothered"...🤪 wonder of even the QLD Govt would offer some incentive there... ...I'm assuming they would like as many high spending pax as possible...

This has now closed for submissions and Virgin had multiple parties submit submissions in the last days, siding with itself.
All submissions also criticise the JQ offer, strongly raising the point around JQ using foreign crews, VA would create local jobs.

JQ using foreign crews might come back to bite them on this one. Bit late for them to now come back and say they will operate with locals.

Anyone know if this got approved? Can’t find anything online

Question remains if VA even now have the fleet numbers to do this with the delays ahead for the MAX. Might need to sacrifice the direct OOL-DPS

IIRC, most of not all of the originĂ l order of x8 Max-8s Were intended to replace the -800s (both schmitar and non-schnitar) currently on international flying. As they are registered to "Virgin Australia International". I would assume the displaced 800s currently on international could take over if VA are granted one or both rights by IASC.

Not quite correct. The MAXs are being added to the VAI AOC in addition to the -800s. They're not replacing or displacing anything. That's 8 more aircraft in the fleet that are certified for international ops.

They are scheduled to take over some of the -800 international sectors, but they are/can be used interchangeably across the whole network (just like the non-scimitar and scimitar aircraft are).

The MAX delivery delays aren't going to magically resolve anytime soon. Maybe they should look at some more mid-life 700s or 800s in the interim.

And on OOL-DPS (like ADL-DPS), it's often cut completely or the frequency reduced during the low seasons, so I suspect you might be right.

Also just noticed that all ADL-DPS non-stops have very recently been removed from sale after the end of April...

The VA application to the IASC for ADL-PER-DPS had a May launch date. I thought I read somewhere a decision was expected at the end of March?
They can chuck VBY/Z back on ISH esp to DPS as it's such a waste of the -8 on there for the democratic of pax đź«Ł
I was on VBY earlier this week, and the old girl was looking rough. Inside and out...

OOL-DPS is showing as 4x weekly for NS24 except for the NSW and Qld School/Tertiary holiday windows (daily during those periods) in June and July.

ADL-DPS on VA is still showing as x3 weekly for NW24/25 (for now at least)

The submissions being very mixed and largely siding with VA will no doubt add to the complexity of the decision. I think the longer it goes, it might be siding with VA. It will take the commission extra time to write up and prepare a response on why it would side with VA, vs splitting it both ways. Obviously WF group will be pissed, so the commission needs to be clear and detailed on why it went with Virgin exclusively. That’s what I think anyway.

QF Group was always starting from behind with this one, it's own submission acknowledges that it currently has 54.8% of the seats allocated between Australia and Indonesia, and the next nearest is Virgin with just 14.7%. (During the 12 months ending Sept. 2023)

Solidifying their dominance would never really have passed muster, even before you account for the other submissions.

We could get a surprise, but I agree that it's pretty much definitely going to allocated to VA.
