Virgin Australia Business Class - Meals, Menus & Service

Do they still offer choices off the general menu in J? I mean if you were say wanting Bannana Bread or Cheese & Crackers, or do they not like to advertise this?

There is no menu in the J seat pockets but I'm sure if you asked for something they could find it for you

Those meals are actually starting to look quite good :)

Yeah, well, transcontinental flights have a different standard of service from other DJ flights.

Yes, I agree. But the "snacks" in J need serious work. They can choose to call it what they want, but I expect real food, not a piece of cheese, as the catering component of my J ticket.

You always get much better value if you fly at mealtimes.

An arvo snack that wasn't a cheese plate, and at least somewhat substantial
On a 5pm BNE-SYD flight -- now whilst I do think a 5pm should at least get the choice of a full dinner, it is far better than the soup offering from QF on the 5.55pm a few weeks ago.

Thai rice paper rolls and carrot cake.
Looked good - unfortunately the thai sauce was average - on the sour side - no sweet or spice at all
The rolls themselves noodles, tofu, carrot and full lettuce leaves

This would appear to be the first report of a snack service in the evening not being a cheese plate!!

Well done Virgin

The rice paper/vietnamese rolls have been around since the J relaunch - I just lucked out and was only ever served the cheese platter (maybe 7 in a row or so!), but I've seen the rolls served from my Row 3 vantage point. At about cheese platter 5 or so, I quizzed the cabin crew, and was assured that they rotated through a number of "snacks", including a risotto cake, the rolls and infamous cheese platter.

Moot point for me, now working for an employer with a QF only policy.

A Dinner service on BNE-SYD.

Choices were a Chorizo Pasta Bake or a Green Curry with Tofu (Vegetarian). First five pax took the pasta bake, so the rest in Row 2 didn't get a choice.

Pasta bake looked ok, unfortunately was overcooked - some of the pasta was crisp, there were way way too many breadcrumbs and almost no sauce... Left a lot of breadcrumbs on the plate.
Business meal service done by CSM and front FA. Front FA then goes to main cabin to help out.
CSM then shut the curtains for 5min so those in Row 1 were sitting with empty trays and empty drinks.

Complain to VA and get a credit shell as compensation. I would (and have). Only way to get action is to keep 'em honest :)

Yep, as above. Use the photos from this post in the complaint so they can see its not frivolous.

I usually cut the crew some slack over this type of thing. If it were truly only 5 minutes personally I'm ok. Its hard to put on happy face continually and we never know whats going on behind the curtain (and usually don't need to know). Could have been a loo break, or getting something else ready, or even maybe a quick bite to eat.

What I don't like is when the FA's disappear behind the curtain for long periods, usually after meals (20+ minutes). As I try hard to sit up front these days the long crew breaks are never a mystery because you can hear them carrying on behind the curtain. Having said that, one only has to press the call button, or, failing that, get up and peek behind the curtain with glass in hand, or used cutlery if you want to clear up :)

I have had the Shut Curtain routine, with The Empty Drink and the Plates.

I actually don't like that.

That is very poor service on Virgin's part. At the very minimum a business class product should include decent and timely service periodically throughout a flight.

I would be very frustrated to be left with my tray and no offer of drinks for the majority of a flight.

I guess I'll see for myself on Monday when I have my first trip on Virgin business - YAY :) I will endeavour to take some pictures and report back on the service.

The flight is MEL-BNE at 6pm so I am assuming that it will be a proper dinner flight. Does anyone know what the general meals are on that flight?

Wife was on DJ436 last night, 3 PAX in J. Was offered the cuscus dish or the shepards pie. Her first J flight and she said she loved it and couldn't have been better looked after by the CSM.

My wife was the same after a trip home to PER from NZ in Jan. Premium economy over the ditch wasn't that hot, but after resting in the MEL lounge followed by full-on J, I don't think she will settle for steerage (as she now calls it) ever again.

I think I've created a monster...........
