Virgin Australia Business Class - Meals, Menus & Service

AKL-SYD today - had the lamb shank with gnocchi and olives and it was damn good! Small wedge of Camembert or Brie with fruit paste and water crackers and a tasty chocolate brownie.

Other option was a Mexican sounding corn salad.

Nuts on offer were just almonds (not warmed).

Towards landing time we were offered a Whittakers Chocolate Bar.

Excellent service too.

Didn't take pics but the cauliflower soup on the flight from denpasar to brisbane was inedible. It was way too salty and I usually add salt to everything. The chicken which was added seemed to be shredded up processed deli "chicken loaf" needless to say I just sent it back and decided to have a few drinks instead.

Wish I had eaten something at the lounge in DPS as it looked way more palatable, or even the economy class meals sounded like a favourable option. Probably should have asked if I could have that instead!

Those 2 choices have been on high rotation recently. Both are nice, but if you are flying a lot there isn’t much variety.

Agreed, I liked the pasta the first 4 times I had it ;)

Its pretty carb heavy though, so hopefully its rotated out with something a bit healthier now.

... chicken pasta or prosciutto salad. I once again chose the salad. There were some miserable gluten free chocolate biscuits served with the meal.View attachment 175232

The salad was nice enough. They went a bit overboard on the dressing this time though.
I had this for "Lunch" MEL-CBR. It was described as a Cos salad with hazelnut pear and avocado and optional prosciutto.

It was really nice. I did not mind the bulky chocolate biscuits for dessert and the cheese was really nice - I was offerred more.;)

Very nice for a short 40 minute flight.

MEL-BNE today, lunch service. Chicken pasta or prosciutto salad. Dessert were the chocolate biscuits. Not too bad but like mentioned before: carb-heavy.

What order do you eat the meal in?

For me: main, bread, cheese, dessert 🙂

Wow, that chicken dish sure looks far removed from the standard visual offering. Plating really does depend on the culinary expertise of the individual FA, doesn't it?

BNE-AKL same menu 🙁 went for salad which was nice but I prefer something more substantial.

Dessert was fig and banana cake which was dense and made up for lack of volume on main 🙂

Was proactively offered nuts beforehand, and a selection from a tray of snacks later in flight. Chose orange chocolate, was ok but not great. Another gluten-free dairy-free sugar-free sweet that was NQR.

Service was excellent as always.

I find the sparkling wine can be hit or miss. Today was a miss. But the Kiwi Pinot Gris was good and free flowing. So much so I found it hard to walk in a straight line through the terminal 🤪

Chicken and Penne Pasta last night MEL-SYD. The wife took the salad with prosciutto as she had partaken of the Lamb Rogan Josh in the club lounge.20190804_180232[1].jpg20190804_180241[1].jpg

No chocolates after though...

OOL-SYD afternoon tea service yesterday. Was over the moon to hear the hot option was satay chicken skewers, which I've been wanting to try! The cold option was a chick pea salad. Both served with warm bread roll, salad with a kewpie -style dressing and a small Pana chocolate.

Did not disappoint! The satay skewers were delicious, easily some of the best food I've had in the sky. Salad, bread and chocolate were great too and made it feel more like a meal than a snack.

Terrific attentive VA service as always, sparkling wine on arrival, followed by two glasses of my favourite Hardys The Magic Stick Shiraz with the meal. The highlight however was the Ink Gin, which the FA kindly sourced for us from the back. If you haven't tried it yet you certainly should, the way it changes colour when you add the tonic is pretty spectacular!

All in all a great flight which has confirmed my belief that VA has the best domestic J product in the skies.

I decided to investigate this "chocolate" imposter called Pana Chocolate. And it would appear that chocolate is the most inoperative word. It is reliably sourced, sustainably grown, gluten free, fat free, risk free blah blah blah.....

I want chocolate that makes me feel guilty I ate it. I don't want to save the planet one chocolate bar at a time 😩

Rant over.

On the recent VA1 flight none of the mains suited my taste. Luckily they were happy to combine the lamb with the ravioli for me and the result was delicious :)

My partner and I copped the same chicken pasta for dinner on Saturday flying SYD-ADL.

Came as a real shock because it was comfortably the worst dish I've ever had on VA. Normally their catering is spot-on but that chicken dish was dry, bland, and hideous.

Regret not ordering the salad, especially after seeing the posts above!
