Virgin Australia Business Class - Meals, Menus & Service

Currently sitting on VA555 to Perth, hubby says both lamb and sea bass was good (he had my main).

Disappointed that when I asked for a second bread roll, was told no. Edit. Just asked for some more cheese and crackers (as no main meal for me) and was told no.

Last nights dinner ADL-MEL and for such a short flight it didn’t disappoint despite the lengthy delays with weather.
Option of Prosciutto salad or Lamb and Pearl Barley dish and chose the later. Mrs Jase loves lamb and almost licked the plate clean before commenting that it was one of the best aircraft meals she has had for a long time. I’m not a huge lover of lamb but I’ve had the dish a few times before and liked it, this time was no different. Lamb was very tender and nicely flavoured. Accompanied with a warm linseed roll, a small serve of cheese and biscuits and a passion fruit mousse. All very good and top notch service and attention from Nicky and Sam.
PDB served fairly quick and a slight delay whilst taxiing so topped up just before take off. Switched to the lovely Pinot Gris for dinner and glass topped up promptly. Was told there would be a slight delay getting to our gate so just before landing we had our drinks topped up which I appreciated. Once again for such a short flight VA offer a wonderful service.

VA556 Perth to Sydney.

We both had the duck for entree, very nice but didn't think hummus was the best choice for it (as if I know/totally not a foodie) but loved the pomegranate.

Hubby had the salmon and he says excellent and I had the chicken, which I thought was amazing and doubled checked the menu card as it was so good/not what I expected. Added bonus I could remove the kale. They also ran out of salmon as I heard pax being told only chicken available.

Wasn't asked what I wanted for dessert, FA plonked a cheese plate down but hubby was asked and he got the fudge brownie. I wanted the brownie!

Enjoyed this more than the SYD-Perth flight menu.

Sunday dinner MEL-ADL and same options were available as the flight over on Friday. Had a full J cabin with 5 of the 8 choosing the Lamb with Pearl Barley. Once again very good, this one was slightly better IMO as it had a bit more sauce which I mopped up with the Linseed roll. Biscuits and cheese with quince jelly rather than the usual quince paste which was quite nice. Passion fruit mousse again. PDB bubbly and a couple of glasses of Pinot Gris with dinner. Service prompt and friendly again for the short flight and made better by the delightful Emma. Have come across her numerous times and she is always bubbly and attentive. Really can’t ask for much from a sub 1hr flight.

BNE - NTL
Afternoon refreshment
Pork and fennel sausage roll. Pastry was dreadful and soggy, the filling was okay, however this was probably my most disappointing VA meal. The dressing was almost solid and couldn’t be poured onto the salad. I also tried the ink gin which I thought was a bit too bitter.

VA336 BNE-MEL. 4pm.

Didn't take a photo but had the stay sticks (x2) that have been posted often recently. Tasted quite nice although and had the regular salad and a nice bread roll. I do remain unimpressed with the little raw chocolate bar that have replaced the desert at certain meal times.

Good attentive service throughout the flight. Also noted that they did attend too to all regular pax prior to the catering not guaranteed pax, which was nice to see.

VA989 Sydney to Brisbane, dinner. Chick pea salad, very nice. Rolls not heated up.

Alternate was chicken satay. Cabin supervisor's body language said that they couldn't believe I had the nerve to ask for a coffee afterwards with 30 minutes to go. 4 in J, sub 40 in Y, not good enough.

After a OW RTW J trip, it was nice to get back into VA J. Getting a sparkling PDB is not guaranteed internationally on OW carriers I can confirm. The use of trays in J is rampant and none layout your cutlery etc like VA does on the A330.

I note that VA are now using 100% recycled serviettes on board and in the lounge.

Also, dessert was not as advertised on the menu, it was a type of banana cake with creme fraiche.

Overall, equal or better than what QF, CX, BA and MH could provide....

High praise! And looks delish.

I always play ‘what would I have ordered?’ So I love it when people post the menu first before the pics. (thank you for entertaining me!)
However, I can’t line up your main with the menu- what was it?

It was the Barramundi (located under the greenery). Now I have reread the menu, I would say other 'substitutions' have been made.

Dodgy!!!

Should I ask for 'compensation'....

Shock horror recently on MEL-LST, due to turbulence just after take off no meal service at all! Beverage service was reasonable though, thankfully the trip back was up to it's usual high standard (I've always previously had great success on this route).
Lately BNE-MEL legs have been of average levels service wise, could also be that, and if it's sausage rolls or noodles (on the MEL-BNE leg by the time it got to row two there were no noodles left, poor buggers) with the coughpy excuse for chocolate one more time I'm just over it.

Flew CBR-BNE recently. Had the satay sticks which were quite nice (could have done with another serving though!). The salad was ok but the honey mustard dressing was vile. Enjoyed the Pana chocolate. My travel companion can't do spicy so no satay or harissa salad for her, but a sandwich was reluctantly served from Y.

Unfortunately the CM ignored me and my travelling companion for the majority of the flight after the meal was served, but happily served the other 5 pax refills of drinks or snacks they wanted. I did manage an espresso martini and some chips near the end of the flight, though it seemed to be an inconvenience. Disappointing as I've always had good experiences in VA J.
