Virgin Australia Business Class - Meals, Menus & Service

VA110 AKL-OOL 0945.
Excellent service and great staff. A couple of PDB ‘s whilst awaiting our departure and meal order taken very quickly. Chicken and Walnut salad or the BBQ smoked Beef Brisket with with American slaw, corn and kidney beans. Had the Beef and it was so tender, was an absolute treat and top notch in quality and taste. Served with a warm roll and about 10 minutes after meal was served the CSM came and offered everyone another. Drinks were promptly refilled and staff very attentive. Meal was served about 35 minutes into the flight and once lunch service was complete the CSM came around with the snack basket containing various treats. She did this several times during the flight and said to give her a call out if we wanted anything more. Can’t compliment the staff highly enough.

Most flights have two meal options available. If people have in fact been requesting a lighter lunch option (and I'd like to know who these people are - I suspect they're the same frequent flyers that call Qantas' Boeing 787 business class "mini First"), why not offer one light and one full meal option and give passengers the choice?

And seriously, how is removing bread rolls "providing more choice"? If somebody doesn't want the bread, they don't have to take it.
Exactly. Some pax request a light lunch option sometimes, so VA mandate it for everyone. Oh but it's not cost cutting... I hate being treated like an idiot.

VA520 OOL-SYD 1205 departure. Flight was delayed nearly 45 minutes thanks to the inbound flight but for such a short flight of just on an hour I thought the meal was pretty good. Options were tuna and corn sandwiches or a tomato and boccocini salad. I don’t eat seafood so the choice was easy. The salad was quite nice and the tomatoes were very fresh and ripe. Have had this dish quite a few times and always enjoy it no matter how basic it appears. I can see why some would be disappointed if they are expecting a more substantial proper meal. Service was bang on again by Veronica and Chris who are always cheerful and friendly. A ripping job on a short flight.

That doesn't look too bad at all. The tuna and corn sandwiches though - eek! 😧😷

Finished the day with VA428 SYD-ADL 1610 departure. Baba Ganoush or the tried and tested Arancini Balls with tomato relish. Once again I chose the Arancini Balls because despite probably being the dish I’ve most eaten on VA I don’t grow tired of it because it’s not something we would have at home. Delicious again and was happy that the relish even had a bit more kick than usual which suits me fine. Service was attentive and excellent again with the lovely Karren who is always great. J was full although 3 seats were taken up by VA staff including 2 pilots and all in all another good flight. So 3 VA J flights for the day and all had very good meals with amazingly cheerful and attentive staff. I was worried about the TT flight after reading some comments regarding F&B on here but perhaps I got them on a good day.

Will be flying VA for the first time in years tonight.
VA 882 SYD-MEL at 19:00 (738)
VA 697 MEL-PER at 21:10 (332)
Any tips on what catering to expect in J?
Do they still do a drink on boarding in The Business on the A332s?
Or has that been cost cut ... I mean removed due to customer demand.

I'd be more worried about the fairly tight connection in MEL because of the rainy weather in SYD. Good luck.

Lol... love it. I remember years ago when QF first started seriously screwing around with the FF program, they made some terrible changes (I think it was making an award booking impossible within 48 hrs of departure or something), and they used the phrase "due to customer demand"... idiots

But I think they only offer sparkling wine? Better than nothing (I am not complaining!) but one cannot choose a different drink, as I recall...
Last week, the guy behind me in 2A successfully ordered a still white before take off.

Even more idiotic since we are 'passengers', not 'customers!'

Been like that for many years, sparkling not champagne :)

Doesn't stop the F/As from referring to it as "champers" though!!

That has crossed my mind.
The two flights are on one booking so surely they will be responsible for me if I am stuck in Melbourne for the night.

I am usually pedantic and refer to it as sparkling wine if I know it isn't champagne.
However this has backfired and resulted in being served sparkling water more than once!

Actually VA calls us "guests" - which I cringe at

Yes, on the scale of stupidity it also ranks highly. I also cringe at hearing it.

As a side issue 'guest' for when one stays in an hotel. AirBnB or B & B is also silly because historically house guests were accommodated by family or friends free of charge, but it (unlike 'customer' or 'guest' for airline or other modes' passengers) has become accepted in usage.

If airlines want to idiotically call me a 'customer' then how about the same consumer rights as I have at Bunnings, Coles, Woolworths and so on such as instant refunds if not satisfied hehe?

Likely from the complimentary "Pantry Menu" which is not available to economy PAX.

Which still seems to be very heavily promoted on the Tasman, the last couple of flights the basket came around couples times and were encouraged to take an couple of items.

On the Tasman some FSM leave the snack basket out in the galley too, and mention that you free to grab snack when ever you want etc.

Which on the Tasman is an pretty good service, Never had snacks from NZ or QF on the Tasman.

Agree, though it is hard to compete with the competitors’ wide-body aircraft.
