When I flew VA J with my kids earlier this year the CSM (completely unprompted—my kids don’t have allergies) produced an A4 folder with all the meal options and a full list of ingredients/dietary stuff etc and showed it to us when going through the options. Not that this helps you if there’s no GF option, but they do have the info on hand.A bit disappointed to hear no special dietary meals in J, BNE-MEL even when advising ahead of time . Particularly a gluten free meal. How knowledgeable do you think the CSM is of ingredients?
And one of the best benefits going for a frequent flyer program - it's almost completely unparalleled - you can speak to VA on the phone when you need to!In my experience, VA J is often better than QF J, at a much more affordable price (although, to be fair, some QF FA's do try to provide exceptional service).
And, you can now redeem VA points on SQ J.
Story of my flight except I was in 2A...Dinner options on this 6pm flight were Spanish Chicken or the vegetarian Korean Bibimbap. Unfortunately we were in 2D and 2F (somewhat by choice and accepting the risk of sitting in those seats!) on what was a full flight and all six of the other passengers went with the chicken, so bibimbap was all they had left for us!
The dish was tasty although very much on the smaller side, the chicken looked better. Not sure if this is the norm on the MEL-SYD corridor but was disappointed to see no dessert included, just the cheese and crackers.
I flew VA0776 on Sunday CSN-BNE and booked late so got 2D. Breakfast just got served front to back and left to right so when it got to me the option I could eat was gone. Was offered pretzels but just had black coffee. Saw most of the the boarding passes of the other passengers and their phone passes were red. So much for being Platinum.Some are starting orders anti clockwise because we find 90% of the time guests in 2D-F will miss out and we're tired of it so reversal to keep it different.
The only meal preference we go first by technically is for VIP guests first followed by whoever is seated next to them.
I know a few and myself do start with platinum orders first if we don't have any VIP onboard or just go by our 1A to 2F.

Just let the CM know when you get a chance before the door closes so that they can keep a non-chicken option aside for you. I don’t necessarily need a vegetarian option but if the meat option is chicken then I won’t eat it. Flights are 23 April BNE-SYD; SYD-LST and then 3 May HBA-MEL and MEL-BNE. From the posts here it does seem like chicken is in high rotation as either sandwich or pasta.

Despite being seated in 2F, my playing the allergy card (they asked if we had any dietary requirements or allergies, which I hadn't experienced before) meant I got the first choice of meals and got served first.
