Virgin Australia Business Class - Meals, Menus & Service

Todays offering. CBR-MEL

2 cold options. Quinoa and berry compote or something and egg, chickpea and humus served on sourdough. Really enjoyed this one actually.

MEL-ADL
Full-full flight. Service a bit meh. Choice of roast chicken salad or vegetable curry. Went with curry which was served piping hot and was enjoyable.

Currently in the lounge waiting my very delayed flight to Perth. Oddly enough, there have been no announcements. Really poor comms.

Usually pita and the hummus on a separate plate on the side. Ooops, I should have mentioned that it was a 90 minutes scheduled service. (Ticketed arrival time minus ticketed departure time. i.e. how a passenger views schedules, not the crew.) So not a PER/international flight, where an antipasto/entree is served, thus the side plate only gets cheese & crackers. (It looks like this dish could have been posted before - Virgin Australia Business Class - Meals, Menus & Service But, the way VA is using repetitive themes this menu cycle, like; chorizo, broccoli, rice, and pita, all making special guest appearances across multiple dishes, its a bit hard to know when something like hummus is missing.)

Worth rementioning, VA is still the only local airline* offering guests a glass of bubbles during boarding. (*On all domestic flight numbers with business class departing after noon.)

BNE-CNS VA785

The same late lunch offering as I had on the outward bound flight. Not great. As bad as the outward trip. That's being generous. Very dry and the service was as lacking as any recent business class VA flight. As unappealing as what was in the BNE lounge offerings.

I was in seat 1A and boarded not far after the initial priority boarding. The overhead lockers were full in rows 1 and 2 so I had to stow my hand luggage in row 3 lockers. Two flight attendants were three metres away when the overhead lockers were stuffed to capacity by whoever and not a word said.

The FA was invisible for much of the flight. Possibly terrified one of the eight in the cabin would ask for a beer or water. He did complain about having to clean the loo before I went.

The plane was a former SilkAir plane so no divider. There was a steady line of economy passengers happily lining up to use the business class loos without challenge. There were at least 20 on the two hour flight.

Red wine offerings were as usual a shiraz or pinot. No. Merlot. Just do Merlot.

Wifi was claimed to be available on the outward and inward flights along with the entertainment offering. Nothing available on both devices I had. I took screenshots pre boarding on how to connect but nothing happened.

I retained platinum on this status run. I had twice the status credits needed to retain platinum in place from several SQ flights but I needed the VA flights to retain status.

A recent flight in business class from HND to CNS was not much different.

However at least there was no utterly disgusting dirty foot mark on the bulkhead as I was not able to unsee during the outbound flight. Try eating anything with that in front of you.

No response from VA.

But at least the beer was cough...

Live from VA349. A 7:50pm MEL to BNE departure which actually left 10:15pm. After a short stint experiencing with QF again, glad to see VA hasn’t changed.

Options tonight was sweet chilli chicken (pictured), or a vegetarian curry with optional chicken. Seated with 2D as a platinum, order was taken last but all options remained available due to a 5/8 J cabin load.

Chicken tasted better than I expected and sure beat the cheese plate or soup option I had served on QF J on this route last time.

CM made a point that VA management are asking crew to serve 1A around to 2F on every flight from now on for ‘consistency’
On my flight 1D had not returned from the lavatory so orders were then taken from row 2 but it looks like 1D still ended up with their first choice

Breakfast SYD-MEL and Dinner MEL-SYD today

Scrambled Eggs & Mushrooms

Supposedly Kung Pao chicken

Both were.... fine. Dare I say worse than what I usually get on QF Domestic J.

Last time I flew VA J (2022) the food was definitely better. I assume I was just unlucky this time

On my mid-morning MEL > BNE today, I was kinda hoping for a breakfast meal because I barely got to pop my head in the lounge before having to make the trek to gate 17 for boarding. Was between this “chicken salad” or a Thai curry, gotta say this wasn’t exactly what I imagined in my mind at the words chicken salad but it was fresh at least. The bread was quite dry and ordinary though, could have used its own dip on the side.

That lamb rissole is actually a pretty tasty meal. I had it the other day and enjoyed it. The other one I've had recently is a teriyaki veg with rice and that is also not too bad, I think it was meant to be offered with an optional protein but wasn't.
