Virgin Australia Business Class - Meals, Menus & Service

What's currently being served up for breakfast on the A330 coast to coast service? I'm flying SYD-PER in a couple of weeks on the 7am service and contemplating whether to spend approx $190 to upgrade to a flexi fare so I can use one of my comp upgrades.

At present the options are Orange Hotcakes with Mango, Passionfruit and minted mascarpone, or Bruschetta with smokey bacon, chipolata, sauteed mushrooms tomato and basil compote. both served with selection of bakery items and fresh fruit compote. There is a pre arrival snack of baked on board cookie with tea / coffee. If you do eat meat the Breakfast Bruschetta is the better option.

I have been on three CNS-MEL flights with myself being the only passenger in J and the CSM used the cart to deliver my meal. This I find very strange. I told the CSM on the last flight that he could just deliver the tray to me but he insisted. My CBR-MEL flights the CSM always hand delivers the tray in a full cabin of eight passengers.

I was on the Mel-OOL last night and was pleasantly surprised by the high-quality service that I received. The whole business class cabin was well attended to for the entire flight, orders were taken right after take-off and then served half way through the flight by hand and drinks were consistently refilled. My thanks go out to the business-cabin steward for a fantastic job - this is exactly what business class should be. As for the food itself, I had the Lentil curry which was actually quite nice and very filling. I still dislike the two chocolate coated nuts as desert, but overall not bad. I'll post a pic later.

I've had a few of late.

BNE-SYD Dinner. Shocking dry pasta bake with one piece of ham.
BNE-SYD Dinner. Moroccan Lamb (that I'd had a few months before). Fine, but nothing special. Service was great though. I was the only J pax and the CSM couldn't have done more. I left a positive note on Twitter that I hope DJ followed up.
BNE-SYD Breakfast. A fritata that I swear was nothing but egg. Tasted terrible (loaded it with salt and it was passable). Managed two average coffees.

Generally I've found the DJ Business food to be a bit "meh". It's alright, but I'd call it on par with Intl Y. Has nothing on Qantas (still).

Flew MEL-BNE-MEL Sat/Sun. Flight up was pretty good, good solid service but the flight back was absolutely stellar. The CSM was very efficient and attentive. There were 4 of us traveling together, but we were the on ones in J. The IFE's were already set up and readay in the seat pockets when we boarded. Preflight drink given, water and mocktail. The food came out very quickly. It was the 4:55 so I was wondering if it might be a hot meal, sadly not and no choice was given but the CSR assembled something that I think was Y stuff mixed with the cheese platter... 4 points of ham sandwiches, cheese and crackers, grapes and some of the really nice honeycomb ice-cream.

I was fortunate to be offered both meals which I accepted - up at 4.15sm and hadn't a chance to eat much. The fritata on the right was the hands down winner - tasty, not overheated.

Both crews gave exemplary service and the CS were darlings. Wish I'd had chocolates to give them

Flying to Melbourne - Hobart in J anyone know what we will receive meal wise? Melb - Hbt is the 9.40pm and Hbt - Melb is the 6.00pm. Cheers

Depends on which day you travel. HBA is a non catered port so the food is loaded ex MEL, so the food in each direction will be the same. Dinner is served from 1800 until last flight. The current menu from MEL is Coq au vin or Sweet Potato Dahl. Both served with a soy and linseed roll, mesculun salad dressed with a lemon vinaigrette. And the obligatory choc covered macadamia's.

This appears to be a serious improvement on what has been previously offered on 737 J flights..

Is breakfast on the SYD-PER A330 still the orange pancakes or the bruschetta? Is breakfast just a 1 course meal?

Flew MEL-BNE-MEL Sat/Sun.

Interestingly I did MEL-BNE-MEL for a status run on Sunday. 8:00am out of Melbourne was 6/8 pax's and the return 7/8 pax's.

Different to my other DJ J flight's where I have often been the only one or 1 of 2 guests. Good to see their loads are getting up there.

Si is this correct that we will get dinner service on both the Melb - Hbt 9.40pm and Hbt - Melb 6.00pm flights?

You Should, get dinner on both flights as dinner starts from 1800h. The menu cycle changes today. So dinner loaded ex MEL would be Chorizo and Gruyere Pasta bake or Green vegetable Curry with tofu, Mesculun salad dressed with balsamic, Soy and Linseed roll.
In the event that your return flight is catered incorrectly out of MEL, due to it being loaded in the PM snack window (unlikely) then you would now have a choice of the Prawn rice paper rolls or the dreaded cheese plate. Both served with serendipity salted caramel ice cream desert and a bakery item.
The AM and PM snacks are now far more substantial and often a welcome change to the hot meals.

As for PER Breakfast, it is a single course service for the meal. A snack is also loaded for later in the flight pre arrival.

The meal I posted above (DJ1405) was the green Thai curry with prawns. Was spicy and worked really well with the red wine.

Just booked two Flexi flights (with Business upgrades using points) at the end of the month (25th) - DJ 336 BNE/MEL and DJ697 MEL/PER on the A330. Looking forward to the longer sector and seeing the service and meal. This time I'll write down the meal options and take photos.
