Virgin Australia Business Class - Meals, Menus & Service

Further to previous posts maybe changing Melbourne - Hobart Flight to 13.50 on Friday would this be a meal or snack service? Cheers

I'll be doing a PER-SYD in J this Friday @ 1500, will make sure I take photos and update the thread with the new Coast to Coast menus.

Reverse leg on the 18th.

Dinner on DJ 444 from SYD-ADL in early November.

Is anyone aware of the nut policy for DJ? I have found only the usual "may contain traces of nuts" line on their website. When I rang the call centre they said they couldn't guarantee nut free but -

DJ: "You can specify nut free if you like."
Me: "How do I do that?"
DJ: "Just tell them when you board."
Me: "And if the vego meal contains nuts?"
DJ: "You are welcome to bring your own food."
Me: "If I have spent $1000 on a 3+ hour flight from MEL-PER that's not very satisfactory." (I haven't, but the figure sounded reasonable).
DJ: "You are welcome to bring your own food." <repeat>
DJ: "You can email the customer centre."

Grrr.

Why can't they serve up some of these meals besides the Perth route!!! the cheese plate looks decent to.

The galley facilities on a 737 would be hard pressed to handle meals similar to the A330 galley. But there should be no problem with the cheese plate

The A330 style meals are about to appear on 737 services (transcon only.) But you would suspect witht the time and effort being put into training all CS's how to prep and plate meals from scratch that it may well influence all J class in the future. I've not met an airline yet that will specify Nut free, it just isn't worth the risk for them to make that sort of guarantee. If you ask the crew on board they have a meal guide that states the exact ingredients. But as always, there is no guarantee that contamination from nut products in the same kitchen facility has occred.
Honestly, if someone has that degree of sensitivity to nuts then you should take your own food. That's the only way to gurantee it.

I am fortunate that I only have an allergy and not anaphylaxis. So 'May contain traces of nuts' doesn't bother me. QF do offer a AVML which contains 'no nuts, or nut products'. I was just hoping that DJ would have had similar. Oh well.

I'm surprised they don't offer a pre-order nut free option.

I'm about to board a dinner time DJ J. I moved to a flight 2 hours earlier so we'll see if I get anything!

Had a similar problem a few weeks ago travelling back from the Qantas inaugural flight, OOL-MEL in J.

+1 and I can't have shellfish, since I heard that shellfish is on the J menu that particular month I thought I'd give Virgin a call. All I was told is they can add a note in the booking, but there isn't much I can do apart from advising the cabin crew onboard.

"What if there is shellfish in the meal and I can't eat it"

A: You can pick food items off the Economy trolley.

*Grumble* Hopefully as Sabre comes in next year they can properly address Special Service Requests

The crew have a detailed ingredient listing for all dishes, you occasionally will see them grab out a big A4 sized book with all the food detailed in it. There is very little in the way of shellfish, aside from the current Thai style green prawn curry. Dietary requirements can be substituted from the Y menu.

I've just booked in J class BNE-SYD-BNE for the first time as a christmas/birthday gift to myself and other.. 5.30am and 8pm flights respectively so it seems like it'll be breakfast and dinner for us. Looking forward to the experience, hope it will be good :) No cheese and crackers from saver economy menu this time!

Meant to ask - how often do they change the menu selections? Would be interesting to know what the likely offerings will be....

attroxx, Welcome to AFF

The short legs have a daily rotation - I think at least 4/5 dishes of each type (only one loaded on each flight), unsure how often changed
Think the coast to coast menus are quarterly

On mainline(flights other than transcontinental / international) there are 6 cycles (menu versions) and each catered port is on a different menu. And the cycle changes for each port on the same day every 14th day. Lunches will consist of a hot main and cold (salad main) and dinner will be a choice of 2 hot mains 1 meat and 1 veg. Snack now give 2 options as well. All served with bakery item. Lunch has a dessert and dinner has a mix leaf salad and usually choc nuts to go with coffee/tea after meal. At present out of BNE for B'fast is Fruit Salad, Bakery (Croissant) and choice between Breakfast Frittat with Chipolata and homestyle baked beans or Tuscan breakfast Frittata with Wilted Spinach and roasted Roma tomatoes. Dinner ex SYD is currently, bakery (Soy linseed roll), Mesculun Salad with choice of Shepherd's Pie with crushed Peas or Arabic Vegetable Tagine and Couscous, with Choc Macadamia's to finish.

The A330 changes each season (quarterly) and the meals loaded ex east coast or ex west coast are the same irrespective of which service you travel. There are three menu's, Breakfast, Lunch / Dinner and Supper.
