Nope she loved it, it was only her second J flight and I'll be lucky if she'll ever go down back again :/ CSM looked after her well, kept her well watered & feed...I only hope she'll be just as liquor'd up on the way home :P

Why would she still be in the loo? Dodgey batch of food served out?

Nah, I'm always just a little warey of stewed meat dishes. Just like Beef Vindaloo etc....
Great that you got good service, makes all the difference. I don't do the back half any more, got too spoilt up the front.

Decided to upgrade my three best friends for schoolies, amazing flight. Galaxy tabs waiting at seat, per departure drink offered, juice, water or mocktail. Order taken for lunch as soon as crew released and delivered 10m later individually from galley (nice touch). Braised chicken and potatoes which was sensational. Cabin manager noted new desert which was heavenly after lunch tea ad coffee along with snack offered which was a bowl of mnms and malteasers. Cabin manager Kylie was amazing, no request to big and kept us informed with the weather in Brisbane. Over all amazing flight!

Nicely done by the CM.
Lunch at 9:30am?

Cairns is not a catered port so there is no snack window. The cabin manager gave a bottle of wine to my friend as it was her 18th Birthday. On arrival Kylie wished a safe schoolies to all these things go a long way.

Big thank you for the detailed response KCMil - much appreciated :)

I think I've been bitten by the bug *laughs* flying J this week SYD-OOL to get some SCs built up - won't be able to get past silver this year as all my points start expiring in rapid succession over the next two months but hopefully will build up from there :) I've had a look back through the thread but couldn't find any details on what they are doing for lunch ex-SYD so just out of pure newbie excited interest, any idea of the current offering? (newbie-ness will wear off soon I promise) :)

No worries matey, current lunch ex SYD is Bakery, Penne Pasta with Lamb or Bocconcini, Artichoke and Green olive salad, Chocolate Coffee Tart for dessert. The next menu cycle change is on 21 Nov.

And great as the above post is about the service received by brad330 and his mates, it isn't standard. The trouble with CS's deviating too much from the standards is that people get confused and then get on another flight and are dissapointed when they don't get the same. The biggest battle VA seems to be having paticularly with it's J product is getting a basic consistancy.

So it seems that QF aren't alone in the lack of consistency stakes, then!

Sent from my iThing.
Why, because iCan.

Recently flew DJ556 PER -> SYD in J. I thought the food was excellent.

Pre-departure glass of Lanson. Once in the air another glass with those warm nuts. Great touch I thought.

Entree was salmon and noodle with some sort of vinaigrette which was quite too. I had this with a Chardonnay, but need to try the Viogner too of course.
2012-11-15 11.50.01.jpg

Next was the lamb with cous cous. Lamb was cooked really well. Decided on the Yerring Pinot.
2012-11-15 12.25.32.jpg

And finally finished with the cheeses and Elderton Botrytis Semillion

Cheers! Looks like I'll be a guinea big in that case... I'll post again after with some pics.

DJ346 BNE-MEL yesterday evening with the lady. Another pleasent J experience with Virgin led by Linda and possibly the tallest FA i've seen, Ruby. Was exactly what I expect for a J service.

We both had the vegetable curry, the other option was lamb. Was quite nice and a little spicy washed down with a fat yak.

I was in 3C on Sunday evening ADL-MEL so keenly watched the J dinner service. 4/8 J pax.

The CSM took FOREVER to get the meals out. Its exactly 1 hours flight time and she took at LEAST 20 minutes after she was released from take-off to bring the trolley out meaning there was about 15 minutes to eat before the descent began. She either spent an eternity preparing her trolley or the meals hadn't been heated prior to take off. She wheeled the trolley out and quadruple checked everything was right (i.e. right meal for the right passenger), gingerly balancing the tray on top of the trolley while she took the foil cover off the main course.

I cannot for the life of me understand why they do a J trolley service when J isn't full. It is so impersonal.

Honestly, why don't they tray up in the galley then bring the meals out individually if J isn't full? I would much rather have my meal appear in front of me fully presented and ready to go than have the CSM digging through a trolley next to me looking for what I ordered. I also wouldnt want to see her take the foil off, reminding me that my meal was prepared this morning and simply reheated by her. Wouldn't this also be quicker because she wouldnt have to spend time prettying up that pointless trolley?!?

Totally agree. With only 8 Pax's surely just bring out the trays would be the way to go..?

FWIW 7/8 on our flight yesterday, no trolley all trays. Meals served about 15 minutes after take off and cleared quickly (love it being cleared quickly!)

The requirement for the crew is 3 or more pax, trolley is a must. You may note that on this forum others have complained about service taking forever with CS's doing hand run for 6, 7 or 8 pax.
On shorter sectors the cart is a must. However, that said, there should be NO foil on meals, NO plastic lids, all are meant to be removed prior to entering the cabin.

Likewise, all dishes should be clean, the earlier pic shows baked on gunk! That is just unacceptable presentation from someone who just doesn't care...shame.

There is next to no prep for cart as it is loaded that way ready to go. Some CS's just need to learn what they are doing and start to give a damn.

Stepping off my soap box now.

SYD-PER DJ555 last week...

MrsDeKa and I enjoyed every mouthful. We felt like we'd gone out for a great meal, and had a flight thrown in.

DeKa, I was salivating after seeing those photo's - and I've already had lunch :o

So looking forward to my BNE/MEL/PER J sectors on Sunday. Will post them after each sector (time permitting).

On the Coast to Coast service, I think the meals are looking fantastic. There has been some great looking photos, variety and excellent feedback. It's a shame there is a total disparity on a lot of the other sectors. If they can pick this game up I think they will become a bigger force. It doesn't matter what QF serves up on these shorter sectors, as some will say, if they can get some of these meals on other sectors then they lift bar in my opinion.
