Flew SYD-OOL on Thursday night, and return this morning in J.
Load was 8/8 outbound (6 ate) on a BSI aircraft (VH-YIB). Service was foot to seat (no trolley).
Choices were a Shepherd's pie, or an "Arabian Vegetable Tagine, with Eggplant, sweet potato, cous cous, and zucchini". I'd had a big lunch and had been drinking since midday, so I thought I'd go the veg option, and it was good! It looked "alright" (a bit flat) but I thought the flavours were good. IMO looked much better than the pie option, which looked like pretty solid pub grub. The people eating it seemed happy, but I was glad with my choice (I think I was the only one who went for the vego option).
Glass was kept topped up without asking and the service was great, no complaints at all. I forget the exact wine but it was a decent Sav. Blanc which was nice and inoffensive.
Coming home, load 7/8 (I think 6 ate also) on one of the older birds (didn't catch the rego, but it felt like an early 738, but was refitted).
Choice was a Zucchini Fritter with Chipolata and beans, or some kinda other veggie frittata stack thing with Spinach and grilled tomatoes on the side. I went the Zucchini w/ Chipolata and again was pretty pleased.
It was a little dry, but had flavour, but the beans were good, and the chipolata had good flavour and wasn't dried up or too fatty. CS was very friendly, almost stoic standing there enduring the mild (but persistent) turbulence right when she was serving breakfast. All were served from the trolley.
The girl next to me barely touched her breakfast (she had the vego choice) so I was happy with mine, it was tasty, especially when you combined a few things in a mouthful.
All in all pleased with the Flexi->J 1/2 points upgrades. I think at half price they're positively worth it (especially transcon). At full slog I'd only do it for a special occasion.
