Load was only 11 J pax out of 30. Easy to get good service from Michelle and Stuart (the CS) adn to have a chat in the galley with them later on.

Flew SYD-OOL on Thursday night, and return this morning in J.

Load was 8/8 outbound (6 ate) on a BSI aircraft (VH-YIB). Service was foot to seat (no trolley).
Choices were a Shepherd's pie, or an "Arabian Vegetable Tagine, with Eggplant, sweet potato, cous cous, and zucchini". I'd had a big lunch and had been drinking since midday, so I thought I'd go the veg option, and it was good! It looked "alright" (a bit flat) but I thought the flavours were good. IMO looked much better than the pie option, which looked like pretty solid pub grub. The people eating it seemed happy, but I was glad with my choice (I think I was the only one who went for the vego option).

Glass was kept topped up without asking and the service was great, no complaints at all. I forget the exact wine but it was a decent Sav. Blanc which was nice and inoffensive.

Coming home, load 7/8 (I think 6 ate also) on one of the older birds (didn't catch the rego, but it felt like an early 738, but was refitted).
Choice was a Zucchini Fritter with Chipolata and beans, or some kinda other veggie frittata stack thing with Spinach and grilled tomatoes on the side. I went the Zucchini w/ Chipolata and again was pretty pleased.
It was a little dry, but had flavour, but the beans were good, and the chipolata had good flavour and wasn't dried up or too fatty. CS was very friendly, almost stoic standing there enduring the mild (but persistent) turbulence right when she was serving breakfast. All were served from the trolley.

The girl next to me barely touched her breakfast (she had the vego choice) so I was happy with mine, it was tasty, especially when you combined a few things in a mouthful.

All in all pleased with the Flexi->J 1/2 points upgrades. I think at half price they're positively worth it (especially transcon). At full slog I'd only do it for a special occasion.

Two more for the list (my last for a while):
MEL-SYD Morning Snack service (10:00 flight). J Load 6/8. Interestingly / disappointingly there was no pre-departure drink offered. (Is that normal in the morning?) Galaxy tabs offered but none accepted.
Offered either "chicken, pesto and walnut sandwich fingers" or a "leek and cheese tart". I chose the sandwich as I wasn't super hungry, looked like everyone else went for the pie which looked alright.
This one was actually pretty tasty (despite it looking bland).

SYD-OOL Lunch (12:10). J Load 3/8. Pre departure drinks offered and accepted. Galaxy tabs offered but none accepted.
Choice between the shepherd's pie or an "asian tofu salad" (the CS's eyes screamed "DON'T CHOOSE THE SALAD" - and the other 2 pax also had the pie). Despite my worries it was actually alright, the potato wasn't overcooked and it had decent flavour. Peas were nice too.
Also the little chocolate tart (white chocolate on top of milk chocolate in a pastry tart) was the right balance of rich and light. Very moorish. CS made sure my G&T was topped up, and when I declined the third refill he appropriately brought me water as a refresher before landing. Definitely prefer 2A on the 738 in J!

Wow pythonisman those meals don't look bad! Flying DJ for the first time ever this Thursday (OOL-MEL-OOL) as QF don't have a direct service. If my meals look anything like those, I will be impressed!

Pre-departure drink is standard on ALL flights. Prior to 11am it is water / Juice. After 11am it should be water / Mocktail. Slip up on your CS's part there.

If you have time - check out the OOL Lounge. Great views over the tarmac, unlike the new QF lounge which has ... nice light fittings.

The one at OOL or MEL? Not sure if I will have a lot of time at OOL but on my return, should have time at MEL.

Hmm... so that explains why there was no Mocktail was loaded onto an 11am SYD-MEL recently. My view is that all drinks should be loaded at all times - it's not like there is a price difference in fares at different times of the day.

Does someone know whether I will get a lunch or morning snack service on DJ518 OOL-SYD.
It's an 11pm departure, but with DLS a 1:30pm arrival.
I assume morning snack?

Hopefully you'll end up with a good crew and have a great experience! OOL-MEL is a longer route, so I think you get a bit more than on the hour long flight.

Second the lounge in OOL, it's a sanctuary compared to the usually riotous food court / departure lounge / gladiator arena downstairs. The MEL one is landside but they call your flight when boarding, and priority screening was working pretty well at the time.

Enjoy!

You still get pretty much sweet F/A on OOL-MEL at snack time but the lounge at OOL has been a real game changer. I have never cared too much about lounges for domestic travel, I use them but don't get too excited about it all, BUT at OOL which is a horrible place it makes a real difference.
