Virgin Australia Business Class - Meals, Menus & Service

Ask them to serve you a Tempranillo and see how they pronounce it.

The proper pronunciation is tem-prah-nee-oh, but they just about all say tem-pra-nill-oh.

Maybe it's better she offers me..."...cheese and tomato and avocado and beans...spicy!", than a kay-sa-dill-ah then! :)

I totally agree with you. I find on the whole the VA crews are getting it a bit better. They still by and large don't IMHO have the polish of a good QF Dom J crew (one or two male CSM's I have come across aside) and at times the J class experience leaves me a little underwhelmed. The catering is slowly but surely being refined.

Right. Service is still hesitant and a little confused, comes down to experience and a long term culture of service which VA lack after all up the back they are still pure LCC so how much on the job training can staff get. I think the catering has not improved.

On another note, "with avacado" has been, in my experience, a bit of an exaggeration. Three to five small cubes isn't much. But then again I love avacado.

Maybe it's better she offers me..."...cheese and tomato and avocado and beans...spicy!", than a kay-sa-dill-ah then! :)

Definitely gotten worse and the meal times seem to have conveniently changed. I thought lunch was from noon to 2pm? I had a 1.50pm flight and was served a snack.

Depends on the route and flight time, doesn't it...? E.g. SYD-CNS departing 14:10 gets lunch... flight time is usually at least 2:30 on that sector.

So was speaking to crew the other day and they advised that the meal times had recently changed a week or so ago, and gave me a rough rundown on the times.
Heres what I remember.

I think all times relate to the scheduled departure time.
0300-0829 Breakfast
0830-1159 Snack
1200- 1330 Lunch
1331-1759 Snack
1800-1959 Dinner
2000-0259 Snack

mentioned that the flights over 3 hrs and the east to west coast flights dont have the snack option offered

For anyone that needs to see a pic of a sausage roll, here it is. I might be considered a bit 'unaustralian' but I don't normally have sauce with sausage rolls or pies...so having it served with the relish touching the sausage roll was quite confronting!

I may have to complain - my sausage roll came with about two teaspoons worth of the relish and you also appear to have twice the amount of fennel :(. Maybe it is a status thing, I'm only silver so clearly not deserving of the full relish treatment.

SYD-OOL, dinner service. Only one option, chicken and leek pie. Just been served when we commenced descent. In my opinion, that's a bit poor in general, but when there's only one thing to serve? As soon as seatbelt sign turned on CSM came around and took all drinks, unfinished or finished, without asking. Never seen that one before.

Most interesting part of flight was Tiger plane next to us at OOL. Half dozen police heading up the stairs while the door stayed closed.

All in all, I'd describe service as 'distant'.

Seems a very poor flight - I'd be providing feedback:

Feel sorry for the light or vegetarian eaters (although I guess it might have behoved them to order special meals in advance, upgrades notwithstanding).

Seems like a rushed service, which is odd since SYD/OOL should be plenty of time to serve 8 passengers well, especially with only one meal. Only thing I can think of is that turbulence or what not has significantly shortened the flight time. Either that or the pilots decided to step on the pedal.

I don't think special meals can be ordered with VA. It comes down to the luck of the draw if you get to eat or not.

You're kidding, right? How do you cope?

It's certainly not easy!

Out of my last 4 J flights 2 had meals available on board, 1 the CSM managed to get a zucchini slice sent up before closing the doors and the remaining flight I got a meal and the CSM got a Veg pie for my wife from Y.

I've started asking in the lounge if they can ensure a meal is available.

I would seriously complain about that. It's really not good enough for VA to charge J prices without offering J meals on board.
