Virgin Australia Business Class - Meals, Menus & Service

Is that a joke? What sort of service is that? How can passengers ask for something if they don't even know it exists?
No joke - posts here indicate there should be a card detailing the offering in the seat pocket.

However, staff should be proactive with this.

.
2pm Sydney to Brisbane yesterday, no mention of the pantry and no cards. I did't ask about it as the I had filled up on Turkey/brie rolls and fruit mince tarts at the lounge.

No cards on my recent flights and obviously no mention from crew.

Typical of some VA FAs - the less they tell you about, the less they have to do. This takes away from the time they can spend chatting in the galley with staff on travel they upgraded to J... such as how to claim for fake sick days whilst on annual leave to get more leave.
That's right VA people - we can hear you in there.

Snack service ADL - SYD on Saturday, choice of this (Bolognese Tart) or Mezze plate.....Was tasty enough. Had to ask about Pantry Menu, CSM didn't offer.....got my fair share of bourbons though.....Isn't the mocktail back?

MEL-BNE 23/12 dinner. 3/8

Offered cheese and biscuits (no options from pantry) before dinner with our first drink:

dinner - as below. Salad is quite complete, then a protein is added on top. In this case, warm smoked salmon. I think the other option was grilled chicken breast. Good for vegos, as they get a decent meal if required. Otherwise more cheese and crackers, rubbish bread roll, great mince pie.

Promptly fell asleep afterwards, so forgot to check out the "pantry". No mention of hot drinks as meal handed out, then perhaps crew noticed I fell asleep and bailed.

VA doesn't assume that you want a tea or coffee, which is a system that I like (QF waste so much by putting a mug on every tray, then pestering you to have it filled).

At VA, as the CS comes to clear your tray they will always ask "is there anything else that I can get you?" at which point you say; tea, coffee, more booze etc... pretty simple IMO

Disagree. We should be offered the broad options, it's "business class" - they should be making the effort to make my flight more comfortable, interesting, and so on. Some FAs will create a whole schedule for my refreshments, as they should - and some wouldn't even look at you unless you press the call button. Typical inconsistency.

Another excellent Virgin business flight a few weeks ago.

The Salmon Starter:

The beef shortribs (were a little dry but otherwise delicious, and very filling)

The cheese platter (why can't Qantas get this right anymore??)

Alas they have removed the Noble One from the desert trolley, although Baileys on Ice was fine. In addition, the Ayala Champagne flowed freely, and my glass never had a chance to become empty. Also, the cabin was 2/3rds full. Looks like Virgin has lifted their game (I recall half empty cabins having crew struggle to offer any kind of personal service, but this time they didn't miss a beat). Hats off to Greg and his crew!

30/12 BNE-NTL morning snack. 2/6

Fruit plate, fruity yoghurt, mandarin cake - all very good:

Salmon and asparagus quiche option, also very nice. Tomato relish with the quiche adds flavour:

and absolutely outstanding service. Outstanding service.

Had a couple of decent meal experiences in J over the last week or so.

24/12, SYD-OOL flight home for Christmas- J cabin 6/8, Alex wasn't the CS, I figure she was on training maybe, and Chris the CS served the main cabin.
Service was ok, not great, but the flight had a tailwind, we were in the air under an hour; they started clearing before I'd finished.
Dinner service, chicken green curry was tasty, well balanced, with the chicken the right texture and flavour, with a nicely balanced curry sauce. Can't for the life of me remember the other choice. Had a GSM from a vineyard I don't remember.

29/12 OOL-SYD flight back, J cabin 8/8. Can't remember the spelling of the CS, who was great with a full cabin.
Snack service, choice of Blue cheese, rocket & Walnut salad (amusingly served with a side 'salad') and Bocconcini arancini w/ marinated eggplant, olive and tomato antipasto mix.
My brother and I ordered one of each, but they only had 2 loaded and 2 other pax (ladies) were served the salads. We didn't mind too much. The arancini were better than they looked, but not amazing. Accompanied by a Tempus Two Shiraz which was very light and very nice (and would have gone great with the blue cheese salad)

From this thread it looks like VA has really stepped up its J class catering in the last few months. Runs rings around the cheese box I got on QF J last week. Might have to give VA another go

its a clear trend... Qantas gone rapidly downhill... Virgin have turned it around and look superior to QF on every meal at the moment

From my recent flights I note they have added the side salad to snack service... Which is really a few bitter ticket leaves and some dressing.

Please VA, do the salad right or just don't do it at all.
