Virgin Australia Delays/Cancellations

VA811 (Wednesday 28 August, the 0700 hours MEL - SYD up up and away at 0728, about 15 minutes tardy) is arriving at approximatley 0900, 35 late with A332 VH-XFJ as it had to hold above Goulburn.

Later on 28 August, VA555 (the always welcome A332, in this case VH-XFJ) is the 0935 hours SYD - PER airborne at 1032. Arrival should be 1321 hours, 36 late.

VA168 AKL-MEL (B738 VH-YIW) joins the delay list today, with the flight across the tasman expected to arrive at 20 17, 127 min behind. As such, VA169 as reported by @Melburnian1 now has a revised departure at 21 00

VA331 (1400 hours MEL - BNE B738) was cancelled on Thursday 29 August, as was VA841, the earlier scheduled 1200 'high noon' MEL up to SYD.

VA693 (1815 hours MEL - PER) is delayed until mid evening. 2035 hours pushback is the expectation.

Also, VA1294 CNS-MEL (B738 VH-YFU) has a revised arrival at 17 16, 51 min behind schedule.

VA684 PER-MEL (A332 VH-XFD) is suggested to arrive at 18 10, 65 min tardy.

In more on Thursday 29 August 2019, VA866, the 1700 hours SYD - MEL did not take off until 1809. B738 VH-YFR (assuming any Mt Buller hold is short) should arrive 55 late at 1930 this evening.

In more, VA1535 HBA-SYD (B738 VH-VOS) has a revised arrival at 20 24, 124 late. Given weather in SYD, the delay could further extend if it gets on holding pattern.

VA871 MEL-SYD (B738 VH-VOT) arrival has been pushed back to 20 02, 67 tardy. Aircraft is currently holding pattern near Goulburn.

Another interesting night in Sydney

...Another interesting night in Sydney

Some passengers might prefer an 'abnormal' night of no delays. But I jest, because all at AFF love delays as they love 'enhancements.'

VA875 (another MEL up to SYD, the 1800 hours airborne only about 10 late at 1821 with B738 VH-YIY) should arrive at around 2016 hours, 51 minute slate as it had to hold above Gunning and then also north of Goulburn. Most times an aircraft holds in one position on such a short trip but ATC has hands full with the weather.

VA877, the 1815 hours northbound has VH-VUJ and should be at its gate 43 minutes late at 2023 hours.

Not far behind is VA1354, the 1445 hours DRW down to SYD, in the air at 1511 this afternoon - about 15 late. SYD arrival is 2027, 57 late for VH-YFQ.

VA888, the 2000 hours SYD - MEL (B738 VH-VOT) was in the sky at 2127 on 29 August. Arrival at gate is estimated as 2247, 67 behind.

Northbound VA887 (VH-YFR, the 1930 hours ex MEL airborne at 2010, about 25 late) is arriving after 2208, which would be 68 late, as at 2140 it was still holding north of Goulburn after two earlier holds above Tumut and then Gunning, an unusual pattern but replicated by quite a few other aircraft of all operators this evening due to Sydney's very rainy evening. A bit hard to tell exactly from the BOM radar but Sydney was almost completely encircled by rain and some of it to the north looked especially heavy.

Operated by yours truly. Block time was a lengthy 2:08. Multiple aircraft also holding with us. Aircraft was 50 late leaving SYD due to the inbound VA1520 delayed from TSV. Let’s just say I got good at practicing my holding patterns.

VA170 (Friday 30 August, the scheduled 0700 hours WLG - SYD) did not take off until 0850 hours so arrival for B738 VH-YIJ looks to be 1023 hours, 103 minutes late. This aircraft was only a few minutes late arriving from BNE not long after midnight NZ time, and weather in Wellington looks OK - sunny and not much wind - so not sure what occurred to make the Sydney-bound flight late.

Much later on Friday 30 August, VA882 (B738 VH-VOS), the 1900 hours SYD down to MEL was in the sky at 2001 hours with arrival at 2119 hours, 44 late.

Southbound VA1536 from SYD down to HBA (VH-YFS) is the 1850 hours airborne at 1954, so at gate arrival is suggested as 48 late at 2133 hours mid evening.

On Saturday 31 August, VA69, the morning 0940 hours MEL - HKG did not take off until 1113 hours. A332 VH-XFE should arrive at around 1818 early this evening local time, 58 minutes late.

On Monday 2 September, B738 VH-YVD on VA274 (mid afternoon 1500 hours CNR down to MEL) was airborne at 1637 so expected arrival is 1737, 87 minutes behind the schedule.

B773ER VH-VPF is on transfer empty from MEL to SIN on Tuesday 3 September, presumably for maintenance, as this 0745 hours scheduled flight was airborne at 0752. Expected arrival is 1356, 11 late.

With the fog in ADL, VA211 (B738 VH-YFP) on the 0705 hours ex MEL that took off at 0739 (VA211) was still in a holding pattern near the Coorong as at 0817 local time so it will be 40 minutes late (plus.)

VA402 (VH-YFS) is the 0645 hours SYD - ADL airborne at 0700, on time. At 0830 South Australian time it remained holding above Swan Reach so arrival will be some time after 0900 if it doesn't divert. Therefore, it's at least 35 minutes late.

The 0610 hours BNE - ADL, in the sky punctually at 0622 has VH-YVE. With the ADL fog, it remained holding at 0840 hours SA time so arrival will be more than half an hour late, assuming it makes it in.

UPDATE: QF677 made it into ADL quite a few minute sbefore VA211 despite being in the same holding pattern. VA211 should arrive ADL at about 0918 hours, 78 late.

VA1384 is ahead of 'the 211', with VA1384 arriving at 0913, 43 minutes behind schedule.

The SYD across to ADL VA402 looks to be arriving at about 0923 hours, 58 late.

While Adelaide is a relatively minor airport (apologies to Adelaidians), these fog delays will still see some east coast flights late unless VA cancels a return rotation or three.

A332 VH-XFG on VA679, the 0805 hours MEL - PER was not in the sky until 0928 so arrival has become 1127 hours, 62 late.

With fog earlier in ADL, Tuesday 3 September's VA213, the scheduled 0805 hours MEL - ADL was not airborne until 1014. B738 VH-BZG should arrive at 1051 hours, 111 minutes behind schedule.

VA1391, the northeast-bound 0910 hours ADL - BNE (VH-YVC) took off at 1009 with a 41 minute late at gate arrival - 1246 hours - the suggestion.
