Virgin Australia Delays/Cancellations

Not just VA. Protesters occupied the airport and all flights that hadn’t completed checkin were being cancelled.

docjames, after consulting with me, tomcut2000 kindly posted this news separately on the CX, QF and VA delays/cancellations thread.

We don't have a VS one as it doesn't fly to Oz under its own metal. I may place a note on the BA similar thread.

There is an amazing photo of protesters occupying the (departure) hall at HKG on the 'South China Morning Post'
website.

Expect a VA A332 cancellation or three tomorrow. It might possibly fly the aircraft empty to Australia, but one assumes that depends upon an assessment as to how long the airport is likely to stay closed as a 'ferry flight' is expensive and does not solve the problem of marooned passengers in HKG.

I am only doing what's right for everyone.. to be honest.. I wish I didn't have to post this news... As this news is bad news to not just people missing flights but to the local people of HK :(

Wasn’t having a go and thanks for sharing, just letting those who may only view this thread and not others it’s a wider issue.

A link the relevant broader thread is usually the way to go for this sort of stuff.

Should I stay or should I go - Hong Kong

Don't worry.. It's okay... I am not upset as the OP.. peace my friend:)

P.S. I was upset only for the fact that I have to post as a HK person in Australia that HK airport is closed for business for such a reason.. not upset at your comments... I have never thought you said anything that upset me ever... :)

VA69 on Tuesday 13 is operating from MEL to HKG.

As another AFFer commented in the specific 'Hong Kong' thread to which docjames linked to in the previous post, this and the ex-SYD flight mean four A332s are on the HKG route today (with two still in HKG) so hardly any VA transcon flights to or from PER will be A332s.

Just a quick update for VA Sydney and Melbourne flights out of HKG on 13/08/2019... HK international airport has just confirmed all flights tonight are cancelled again!!

Thanks tomcut2000. Again, great information.

So four VA A332s to be in HKG tonight. B738s in even greater use on Oz transcontinental flights.

Check in was apparently suspended from 1630 HKG time (1830 AEST.

On Wednesday 14 August, VA83 (1000 hours SYD - HKG) was in the sky at 1537 with A332 VH-XFE. Arrival at 2246, 306 minutes late is the estimate.

VA428 (Thursday 15 August 2019, the scheduled 1610 hours SYD across to ADL airborne at 1659, VH-VUG) should be at its arrival gate at about 1823 hours, 33 late.

Another B738, VH-YIM, is on VA142, the AKL - SYD arriving at 801, 36 late.

Much later on 15 August, VA997 (B738 VH-VOS, the 2100 hours SYD - BNE airborne at 2226) is arriving at a predicted 2337, 67 down.

VA83, the Friday 16 August 1000 hours nicely timed SYD - HKG (A332 VH-XFH) was still in the mid stages of taxiing as at 1410 hours, so will be at least 215 late arriving in the financial major centre.

VA524 from OOL to SYD (B738 VH-VOO) is the 1305 h0ours airborne at 1400, so arrival looks to be 1518 hours, 43 minutes tardy.

Continuing today, VA1371 LST-MEL (B738 VH-VON) arrived at 16 59, 64 min tardy.
VA556 PER-SYD (A332 VH-XFD) has a tentative arrival at 19 18, 143 min behind.

Saturday 17th of Aug finds VA68 HKG-MEL (A332 VH-XFH) with a delayed arrival at 10 05, 200 tardy.

VA2 LAX-SYD (B777 VH-VPD) arrived to gate at 8 22, 52 min behind.

With BNE fog plus MEL and SYD single runway operations having adversely affected timekeeping on Monday 19 August, B738 VH-YVC on the offpeak 1300 hours SYD - MEL VA842 did not take off until 1413. Arrival should be at 1529 hours, 54 minutes behind the timetable.
