B773ER VH-VPH, the aircraft that was inoperable in California from about 15 June to 4 July 2019 - a fuel tank had to receive significant attention at the Victorville facility in that populous state of the USA - is not exactly 'in the wars' but of its last five and current flights, three have been at least an hour late and the most recent three have been or will be more than half an hour late. It is currently operating VA2 from LAX to SYD that on Friday 2 should arrive 49 late at 0819 hours.

VA1174, the Friday 2 August morning 0805 hours SYD down to ABX took off at 0929 hours with ATR72 VH-VPJ. Predicted arrival is 1125, 115 late, but as at 1110 it had been holding for some time just south of Woomargama. There may still be fog in the Albury/Wodonga area, as it had been predicted.

VA1191, Friday 2 August 1610 hours afternoon SYD - PQQ (ATR72 VH-FVP) was airborne at 1739. Consequently, arrival should be at 1828 hours, 73 minutes behind the timetable.

The 1815 hours SYD across to ADL, VA436 (B738 VH-VUQ) was airborne at 1905 so estimated arrival at gate is 2028, 33 late.

Saturday 3 August 2019 finds VA812, the 0730 hours morning SYD down to MEL not having become airborne until 0853. B738 VH-VFU should arrive at 1014, 69 minutes late.

On Sunday 4 August, the evening VA291 (2010 hours MEL - CBR airborne at 2050) has ATR72 VH-VPJ and should arrive at 2200 hours, half an hour behind.

Later on 6 August 2019, the evening 1900 hours SYD - PER VA569 was not pointing skywards until 2041 hours. B738 VH-VUK should arrive at about 2324, 69 minutes late.

Continuing today, VA862 SYD-MEL 16 30 hours service was cancelled. Similarly, VA869 MEL-SYD 17 15 hours was also cancelled.

On Wednesday 7 August, VA471 (B738 VH-YIF, the 1715 PER - BNE airborne at 1844) should arrive at around 0044 on Thursday 8, 64 minutes behind schedule.

Thursday 8 August will see VA866, the 1700 hours SYD - MEL, cancelled. QF is also cancelling its same time flight.

VA874, the 1800 hours on the same route is also getting the chop, as is VA981, the 1800 hours from SYD north to BNE.

SYD may be down to single runway operations as at 1620 hours on Thursday 8 August. Confirmation would be appreciated as if so, it usually causes peak period delays.

UPDATE: AFF member milehighclub, who would know, has confirmed that there are 'ATC restrictions' but so far only six QF MEL or BNE, two VA and one JQ SYD - MEL cancelled at this stage which while not great is not as bad as it could be.

This mode 13 (use of the east-west SYD runway only) must be the most inefficient with the smallest number of possible movements per hour.

WNW winds are gusting at up to 54kmh at SYD.
