Virgin Australia launches 'coronavirus status extension' plan

Does your review date show that? This was the thing I was most curious about. They haven’t actually said it specifically anywhere else. Just that it will be an extra year from the review date but I had already re-qualified for platinum that was up for review in May. Now it just shows 2021 as the new review date.
It still says 2021 but I have kept the email I received from them saying it’s been extended to 2022. I imagine their technology may not be able to deal with it stating 2022.
Once I reached my renewal date they sent me an email saying they were giving me an extra year & it was now 2021. That’s when I emailed them & they replied that yes I had requalified & they would give me an extra year.

Third (and final?) instalment of the status credit gift has landed in my account...

Same. Probably witnessing an all time high for my VA SC balance!

Same - although I hope they can do it for another couple of months.

I know they extended status, but I'm into my new year, and I am probably not going to be flying anywhere for at least a few more months.

Yeah - now on 75 SC's (with the Flybuys feed).

I had already re-qualified for status earlier this year with a May 2021 review date so the 12 months extension is meaningless to me. I may see if I can conjure @babysun's trick ...

Ugh, I'm going to fall 22 SCs short of being about to gift SG. No chance of being about to spend $2K at Coles to make up the difference. Oh well, can't really complain too much given the 70 SC bonus got me to that level anyway. I still don't understand if I get any sort of extension, my anniversary date is 13 July.

Hi,

I haven't been particularly attentive through 2020 but trying to do some catch-up reading. I received the initial 12-month extension and my Gold will now expire in July 2021. I have not completed any eligible sectors since the extension.

This link to the newsroom talks of a further extension if you complete just one eligible sector. To confirm - if I fly once at the end of this month will my Gold status be extended to July 2022 even if I fail to meet the status credits required to retain?

Hoping someone can confirm my interpretation.

Regards,
Stevo

"Not one to be outdone by a competitor, Velocity Frequent Flyer will offer eligible Gold and Platinum members a status extension of up to one (1) year or until 31 March 2022, as long as they take one (1) eligible flight with Virgin Australia before 28 March 2021."

It'll be extended to 31 March 2022, not July 2022.

Awesome. Thank you both for that!

1 eligible flight (before 28 March 2021) = extends your Gold status until 31 March 2022, as pointed out by @Stealthflyer
2 eligible flights (before 28 March 2021) = above + 5000 bonus points
3 eligible flights (before 28 March 2021) = above + unlimited Economy X seating until 28 March 2021

Thanks for bringing this to my attention.

Unfortunately I've had to cancel every flight I've booked over the last few months, including two just this morning.

As a West Australian I have no chance of achieving any flights.

I’m WA too.

Now Intrastate: Port Hedland, Broome, Kalgoorlie, Kununurra etc
Now Interstate: Darwin (NT)
From Sunday: Adelaide (SA), QLD
From Tuesday: Sydney (and NSW)

Its only really VIC which is the same for any other state now.

Had a MEL-SYD in about 2 weeks so that one is gone. I won’t bother even contemplating another flight for the next 6 months.

Just extend everyone on the database until 2022.

As a Tasmanian the flight opportunities are pretty limited too. It’s better than last year of course when VA stopped flying to Tasmania entirely. Most destinations involve a transit through Melbourne. The Sydney flights are limited and seem to change constantly at the moment. There are more to Brisbane but that route is surprisingly expensive at the moment. We did have direct flights to Perth but now they’ve dropped that route and have me transiting through Melbourne for my upcoming flight. No thanks.
Every time I go to book a flight there’s another outbreak and the Tasmanian authorities understandably close the borders and the airlines drastically cut flights. I just can’t risk getting stuck somewhere. I hope they do extend status automatically in acknowledgement that even if status holders want to fly they can’t.

I would jump on a "status pause" of some sort. No need for benefits now - restart my membership year when the world is back to normal.
