Virgin Australia "Milestone Announcement" June 1, 2023

Well it doesn't mean fast at all.

It's like saying size means big - or temperature means hot.

This is a prank, surely?

Mattg said, ’Velocity Frequent Flyer is rebranding with a new logo and new slogan, “Velocity Means Fast”. He also said, they are "They’re also celebrating that they now have 11.5 million Velocity members, which is 500,000 more than six months ago" -

So i assume the milestone announcement relates to the logo and the high rate of membership over the past 6 months

Wow! I can’t think of a single thing that VA marketing could have better spent this time and money on… oh, aside from ‘anything else’, that is.

All we can hope is there’s some real juice still under embargo for Monday… like an app update that includes a new drop-down menu animation effect. That would be so cool.

Cheers,
Matt.

The upcoming announcement is quite exciting IMO and has several new options for passengers.

If that's true, then surely @Mattg was only letting us know what wasn't embargoed. He's not an idiot -- he knows that if he divulges stuff that's embargoed he'll never get invited to any media event again.

ergo ... there's more to this than a rebranding. I'm still staying tuned for Monday.

Still… the it was published. The stable door has opened. This is simply creating frustration now instead of excitement.

That equals negative PR.

Velocity means fast.

Heinze meanz beanz.

Marketers have a way of putting a message that needn't be taken literally.

"Spirit of Australia" = 🤣 With that performance? God, I hope not!

Is that a can of Fosters behind the ice bucket?
Classy.

So there's a nice metaphor developed from respective 'events' over the past couple of days between Virgin and Qantas.

Someone at a Virgin function drinks Fosters. 'Onya mate.

Meanwhile, over at Qantas, you get PJ's

<redacted>

Go for it, Qantas fans ...

I don’t see the relevance of showing a pic of QF flight crew in PJs on this thread ?

Other than the metaphor I mentioned between respective events. I could post in Qantas forum I guess.
I don’t see the relevance at all.
Each thread is discussing separate events. This was for VA and the other was for QF.

As far as I’m aware the events aren’t related.
Some robust discussion on each thread about the merits of them.

Please keep on topic here.
Thank you

This is the biggest let down since the series finale of "Lost".

I don't know how much money Virgin spent on all this, but it would have been better putting it in a big bucket on the floor in the middle of the Gold Coast check in counter on school holidays and watching what unfolds.

Hardly original - in Australia alone there's at least 5x "Spirit of [x]" names/slogans

Spirit of Tasmania - Ferry
Spirit of Queensland - Train
Spirit of SA - Art award

Even Spirit of Australia was boat well before QF used it.

Then there's countless examples of Spirit of [x] in other counties, especially the US - notably the Spirit of St Louis.

I can't believe Philip Adams attempts to claim ownership of such a derivative phrase.

Velocity means fast - well, at least nobody will claim ownership over that! 🤣

That sounds amazing actually you should be the Head of PR and Marketing at VA2 😂

I hear after today they are looking for a whole new team 😉
