Well he booked the wrong fare.
Gov D class includes lounge, meal and bags. Is often no more than a saver fare.

Probably so, she is an infrequent flyer who did not understand the value of the QF double status offer either!

I live and learn - I went through my old invoices, and a WOAG DJ flexi booked into "D", but there was no mention of lounge access (I had status so it didn't make any difference to me at the time).

Short off topic - always trawling for new info for a thread here: http://www.australianfrequentflyer....booking-codes-for-dj-35665-12.html#post594319

Gov D class includes lounge, meal and bags. Is often no more than a saver fare.

You wouldn't have an invoice/boarding pass or anything which confirms the above as D class would you? Its been long surmised now that DJ "D" class is some sort of government contract class, but little else is known.

Any chance of a boarding pass scan with personal info removed?

Is there reasonable confidence that D is Economy, Flexi style (ie, changeable) including lounge, food, bags? I think I read earlier in this thread, or perhaps it was another, that these fares earn SC's but not FF points ... Muppet, Greenfish, does that sound about right to you both?

I wonder if its for Government only or perhaps _all_ extremely large contracts?

Re: Virgin Business Class Lottery - Pay for Business, get Premium Economy! Now 0 for

Went and retrieved the old booking from virginaustralia.com. From the "D" class fare T&Cs:

Whole of Australian Government (WOAG) Fare Rules:
- The Basics: this is our fully flexible fare. There is no fee to change the fare, and it is fully refundable in most circumstances, at an applicable fee up to 24 hours after departure. It also gives you the benefits of a free checked baggage allowance of up to 32kg, priority check-in and complimentary access to The Lounge. (located in the domestic terminal of selected Australian Capital City Airports.)

SCs only. If you only travel on WOAG fares, this may be a slight advantage to QF as they also only give SCs, but you also still receive miles through the loyalty bonus.

Apparently D was $300 dearer BNE MEL, hence the cheapie to meet BFOD and no luggage etc.

Small rant. Had "half" a J-fare today. Flew CBR-ADL with a J ticket today. (there is only 1 direct flight a day so it was actually CBR-MEL-ADL).

J cabin for CBR-MEL, but the MEL-ADL was changed to a 737-700 so squashed 3 each side in row 1 (with a prominent Canberra politician also on the MEL-ADL sector). Slightly irritated, as all the other "business passengers" had been contacted...(and allegedly offered discount/refund etc) .I hadnt. I suppose I had half a J-trip. Still doesnt change the fact that I wouldnt have paid the J fare if Id known.

This may be a gap in the system that virgin still needs to fix when a multisector booking has an aircraft downgrade.

A follow up note....Virgin is obviously aware of the issue as yesterday I automatically received a credit voucher for half this fare (which is fair as I had half a J trip). Thank you Virgin.

...and another 737-800 to 737-700 substitution. Makes my wife 0 for 3 in Virgin J.

Fortunately, we have been called about this one and have opted to change flights.

What is extremely disturbing, however, is that as of right now, you can still buy a J ticket on the flight that I was informed several hours ago will not have J.

Ouch... I think I would have pulled the plug after two! Glutton for punishment or thick skin?

Re: Virgin Business Class Lottery - Pay for Business, get Premium Economy! Now 0 for

All I can do is laugh, and Virgin wonder why J loads are so poor!

As I have said in another thread I now have 10 flights over the next few months that have changed from a 738 to an E190......

I wonder if they will call me closer to the departure date...

Wearing very thin at the moment, but J in DJ still remains excellent value for non time critical travel when booked as flexi + points.

Having said that, our flight up (to OOL) was excellent and in proper J despite the website suddenly incorrectly reporting the operating aircraft as a 737-700 which caused much consternation.

It also included my first missed approach (not bad for 1000+ flights) and diversion to BNE, very professionally handled by Virgin.

Why? E190s are officially J regardless.

You've got to admit, there is a difference, regardless of if you have 2 seats to yourself or not. It's not real J. You could argue its very much like getting a 734 though. So it really rests on the onboard experience and why you get a discount when you fly in PE seating compared to J on 737's and 738's, and wouldn't in Y seating on an E190.

Yes, of course Sam. I agree totally. It's DJ you have to convince ;)

I'm not sure how much difference is between the J on the DJ 737 and the current E190 with the empty seat. I like the privacy of having no-one next to me - the only downer is in row 2 you can recline on the 737 - as there is the solid barrier behind the seats, while the E190 of course, I'd not recline as I wouldn't want to impact row 3.

The difference is in seat width. For me, a large part of the appeal of domestic J is the seat width and the feeling of spaciousness that entails (lifting the armrest just isn't the same).

Look like I am to fall victim to this.

Now they no longer sell Premium on these rogues they sell every seat including 1B/E & 2B/E.

Last year I made "Velocity Premium" Bookings for SWMBO and myself for later this month. Now a segment was changed earlier this year to be operated by a 73G so they are no longer selling any business fares on it at all. (J0 W0 O0 H0)

We are still showing as booked as 'Velocity Premium'. Going to seat preselection I could select from the entire aircraft, including the afore mentioned B/E seats.

I have selected 1D & 1F - loads look light (Y7 I7 D7 N7 B7 M7 S7 T7 A7 U7 X7 R7 L7 P7 C7 E7 F0), but it is probable 1E will eventually be occupied - I can only keep an eye out and my fingers crossed.

Looking at other flights, The only option that may suit is an E190 2 hours earlier (I really can't go any earlier than that). Two and a half hours later there's a 73H flight with availability but that's waaayy tooo late.

Feedback from the various members has indicated this is not the case, the seats are left empty!

Hopefully it is the case, or maybe a shadow with our combined "brevet" WP/SG'ness.

However, that may not be always happen.

See the post by DrAndyC I linked to: "... so squashed 3 each side in row 1 ..."

Also, our automatic allocation was 1B/C (I switched to the Starboard side as SWMBO prefers bulkheads).
