Virgin Family transfer - 30 day expiry

Has anyone who got caught out by this "family transfers = 1 month expiry" managed to get their points reinstated?

My issue is that their website here Do Velocity Points expire? doesn't mention anything about short term activity.
Just to provide an update, I did manage to get points reinstated. Live chat and their supervisor were not able to do it - it had to be escalated to a complaint, but once that occurred, it happened pretty much overnight.

Just transferred 370,000 points to family. Was explicitly told the recipient must book a flight within the next month but not necessarily travel in the next 30 days. If that flight is cancelled it would not count. Was told this at the end of the difficult conversation down a tin line from Asia.
I didn't have the presence of mind to clarify whether it absolutely had to be a flight that was booked within 30 days or perhaps a hotel for example.
Has anyone tested that?

The person transferring points into my VA account late last year was told explicitly about the 30 day expiry. I took a chance and the points did not expire after the 30 days despite no redemptions made in that period. I did have other activity (i.e. points earning) during that 30 day period so I don't know if that helped?
