Virgin Happy Hour [Thursdays]

Re: Happy hours not so cheery anymore

Saw a few reasonably priced flights in today's HH but they are nearly all for Jan-April next year. I can't see that far into the future unless it's an overseas holiday. That said, SYD-LAX for $1100 is for August this year!

Slim pickings and happy hours seem to go hand in hand these days.

Re: Happy hours not so cheery anymore

I don't even bother opening their emails anymore. Totally irrelevant to me when my airfares are booked 1 to 2 weeks out at best. Ok for some I guess planning a holiday six months out.

Re: Happy hours not so cheery anymore

Yes my idea of Happy Hour would be flights in the next couple of weeks - discounted because they haven't sold the seats. Selling flights 6 months in the future is just insurance I guess.

Re: Happy hours not so cheery anymore

Is it just me or is today's happy hour less than inspiring? Some of the fares to the USA are still reasonable but most of the domestic fares seem like standard fares.

Re: Happy hours not so cheery anymore

I don't bother looking anymore unless I see this thread but then the Happy Hour are not that inviting.

I also agree that Happy Hour should be used for last minute flights rather than a rehash of last weeks specials.

Re: Happy hours not so cheery anymore

SYD-MEL for $125! Quick!!

Re: Happy hours not so cheery anymore

Some good pricing for SYD-PER today - it says $199 but the first flight of the day is $179 and the return leg is $199.

Not too sure about the SYD-TSV-SYD pricing with a 'special' fare on VA1519 of $215 (although VA1520 is $159). I used to get that regularly for $129 and at worst $179.

Re: Happy hours not so cheery anymore

Nice to see MEL-LAX finally offered for the PE fares.

Re: Happy hours not so cheery anymore

What was odd last week was the price I got when I went to book a flight during HH was lower than advertised - a reasonable amount lower. Selling themselves short?

VA happy hour just opened!

Hey everyone!

I just received an email notice from VA about their current Happy Hour, and there are some great deals.
I haven't posted enough times yet to be able to include the link, but I'm sure you won't have much difficulty in finding it.
I hope this helps someone net a bargain or two.

Cheers,

Re: Happy hours not so cheery anymore

Some cheap flights right now but for July 28 to 16 August 2016!! SYD-MEL or BNE $59 but who knows their schedule that far out?

Re: Happy hours not so cheery anymore

Your post got me excited so I went to book the first 2 weekends in August BNE-SYD return. So far so good but then let down badly when I saw only the first 4 flights on Friday morning or the last flight at 9:00pm we available at $59. :(

I'll hang on to my money a little but longer.

Re: Happy hours not so cheery anymore

PER-BNE is pretty good value at $149 ow but booking is ~10 months in advance.

We could go through 1 or 2 more PM's in that time......

Quite bizarrely I organised an appointment in Melbourne in Aug 2016 yesterday. Only ten minutes prior to the end of HH did I notice PER - MEL (I live in PER) for $149 each way. The return didn't work for me so I'll book the return in future sales. Normally at best this route is $179 so I thought it was a great deal which I think will be hard to match or beat. Surprised it honoured by booking as it didn't complete until about ten minutes after HH finished.

Yep. I was looking for TSV-BNE & there were $99 flights but during those dates... WTF? And to top it off, the cheap flights were only the very early morning departures.

Re: Happy hours not so cheery anymore

Does anyone think that VA's Happy Hour is intuitive enough to know not to offer specials to people that fly a particular route often because the system assumes that you will fly that route irrespective of any special price they will offer...

eg... I fly 15-20 return trips to OOL per year to visit my family on the Tweed Coast. I can't remember the last time they offered that route as a Happy Hour special between SYD-OOL. The latest specials only offers specials to OOL from CBR and MEL...

I am just assuming they don't offer it as it is considered a leisure route and they don't see the need to offer it from Sydney...
