I believe marketing have now given us the soft shelled taco. :p Had the pictured item in that lounge last week. They are smaller than what I would consider to be a burrito tortilla. So overall it's neither a taco. Not burrito for mine. Good nonetheless.
Actually, marketing gave us the crispy shell taco. Traditional tacos in Mexico, are typically soft shell:)

This is a plate of soft shell tacos (you pick them up, fold them in half, and eat).

Wow really poor selection in MEL on Wed Night - like even poorer than back in the old DJ days.

A small selection of salads with processed ham and roast beef and cheese slices and tom yum soup - the counters looked very empty,

The hot dish for dinner was rice and some kind of tasteless mystery meat curry with pickles and onion!

Basically prison food, quite disappointing and not really motivating me to keep pushing for gold.

At least the Koppenburg cider was good.

I would still push for gold, it's worth it for the flying benefits (priority checkin, boarding, security, SYD lounge entry, points, baggage, etc.) however Platinum isn't worth it unless you're flying enough without making the effort to do so (if that makes any sense).

They keep speaking these improved foods but I'm just not seeing them...

You should fly more, the proof is in my posts they exist, and I do just two flights a week.

True. The key to all this new food etc. is to understand it's on the "pop-up" basis. Or VA's unofficial mantra of "consistently inconsistent".

They are just getting bang for buck, it's a business lounge targeted at business travellers. I don't think it's a coincidence the food improvements are at peak business travel times.

Actually the "special" food is consistently available at consistent times. Sydney lounge consistently offer downstairs only, consistently put away at about 6:30 on Thursday night.

Im with Blackcat20... I've not seen much of the 'new' menu since it launched... Only Breakfast.
Might have something to do with my times but I seem to keep missing out. Oh Well, Lets see how this week goes.

5Pm flight SYD to MEL. No fancy food in Sydney, cheese snack on the flight and .... Surprise! No dinner in the MEL lounge at 7pm.

+ 1 to that. I have visited Mexico, although only on one trip. There were no hard shell tacos to be had. All soft. The hard shell may well have been invented in the USA, and is not authentic.

Yes but at opportune times. I rarely see the lavish gourmet delights that pervade the VA lounges as I travel outside their deemed to pamper minutes. Admittedly, I have been seeing extra delicacies but often I'm either running late or just not interested. Congrats to VA for making an effort as the old favourites lost their insatiable appeal in about 2008.

Don't hold your breath.

I have 2 flights coming up next week and I am not holding my breath.

I've got an unusual flight time (for me) next week. about 7 or 7.30pm out of BNE........lounge time right about perfect for some grazing, except I'm on QF. I just can't win sometimes! ;)

MEL 6-630 pm Friday. Beef strog and rice or soup.

They are still likely to have food in the Qantas lounge at that time. Definitely will have food in the business lounge.

I have access to a QP discounted rate, which I haven't bought as I reckoned I'd have QF gold fairly soon. Right now I have neither!
