Virgin stopped transfer of points to Krisflyer [resumed]

The way I see it - I got 1 RT to Europe for 280k points in J vs a single one way J (if booked with KF) to Europe for the same points.

Here is my prediction - SQ will not give a STUFF late 2020, re a one time VA Gold "Elite" member, when VA are no more. :D

280K of Virgin points are likely as useful as Zimbabwe Dollars to you at that point. SQ are not in the habit of giving away long haul tickets free. Virgin *PAYS* SQ WHEN you fly - not before. No money = no fllghts very likely. SQ have their own issues.

One needs only 232,000 KF for a RETURN flight SYD-Europe on SQ A380 in Business Class. Or 326,000 return in SQ First SUITES

THAT award will occur in December or anytime in 2021 as SQ WILL still be in business. Virgin will not be by July it appears, barring a miracle.

But as you say, losing this amount of points is irrelevant to you.

Maybe alexy23 was saying 280k Velocity = ~180k Krisflyer (1.55 exchange rate) = not enough for a return to Europe.

He booked with Virgin points and feels as a *Gold* Velocity member SQ will make everything right for him in 6 or 12 months etc.

I was one of the suckers that lost booked redemption tickets on Air NZ from the Ansett collapse. Even though Air NZ owned Ansett, they did not honour those tickets. It is one of the reasons that I have boycotted Air NZ ever since. Get your points out now if you can, the writing is on the wall.

@ozstamps you seem to be commenting a lot on the VA treads, which is useful - but the majority of your posts are criticising people. You’re writing in a very aggressive manner. I’m not sure if this is your intention. I don’t see a need for it - if people haven’t transfer to Kris like you that is their prerogative. No need to criticise or VA bash - I assume a lot of people on this group may work for VA and it’s not helping the situation. People’s livelihoods are more important than points. I’m glad you got your business flights with Kris after offloading your Velocity points - but you need to be more kind.

Well if I may add a lighter note here - maybe all will be fine once SQ buyout VA for $1 (not sure about the debt) - better to have SQ flying domestic than have only one surviving airline - then (I guess) all our Velocity points will once again have value.

Damn, I had been contemplating it but thought VA was in good hands so never transferred my points across. Luckily i had done a transfer last year so only had around 15k to transfer but still feels like a waste :(. Damn, i should have listened more here.

Yes, those here with more than 15 years of regular flying, often 40 or 50 years of flying like me, fully realise this sad reality. Flyer plans are not always sweetness and light. Many here do not yet accept this hard reality, as Velocity is often all they have known. .

I lost a million points AND some award tickets on Ansett, and like you and others here, speak from bitter real life experience, to those who care to listen.

This is a Virgin Bulletin Board. <redacted> Some read these threads to learn from others, and some do not. Everyone makes their own calls on these issues. :D

Crystal clear warnings were made right here on this board over 2 weeks back, to strongly consider moving points to SQ, or buy $1000 David Jones gift cards etc. Many heeded the experienced wisdom of others - and many did not, thinking things would continue as always - all happiness and fun. Their call. But do not shoot the messengers.

in a year SQ are not going to honour any ticket booked with Virgin Miles, and once being a mid tier Virgin Elite will carry ZERO weight with them. But those - and there seem to be many - who have that exact Cinderella dream that all will be fine forever, are entitled to hold it!

They are now down to Dyson heaters for 180,000 points, jackeroo boots for 115,000 points, toasters etc, and once a day $100 Gift cards for the Dollar Shop, or whatever merchant is still left, that accepts Virgin IOUs, with great trepidation.

Many of us are 10 year Platinums, reached there by substantial spending with Virgin. In my case and partner entirely from my own pocket. Virgin becoming Tiger (if it survives at all) hurts us more than many. We do not have to be Virgin cheerleaders.

I wonder how much safer my points will be with Krisflyer. I keep hearing that this is going to drag on a lot longer than 6 months but who really knows. If it really does take between 2 to 3 years for all international restrictions to be lifted then I wouldn't be surprised if all frequent flyer programs are massively devalued or even wiped. Reward redemption would probably be next to impossible to find as I doubt airlines will be rushing to give away free seats. Like ozstamps said earlier (in another thread I think) no one has a crystal ball so its too hard to predict how things will go. This is something we haven't experienced before. I left enough points in Velocity for a one way to LAX in business presuming that route even exists in the future or if the airline is even operational! If they're lost then it is what it is. I'd be more concerned for the staff that lose their jobs.

Slightly off topic but I never managed to get my 360k flybuys over to Velocity. Perhaps they're the safest of them all at this stage given how well Coles and Woolies are doing at the moment.

So I guess those of us who have earned our KF points legitimately through flights on SQ these past years will just have to accept that the many millions of points transferred across from VA mentioned above and on other threads may be responsible for SQ doing a massive 'enhancement' of their redemption rates as soon as the market improves. Might be interesting to see if points required for redemptions to/from Zone 8 or 9 might be particularly affected if there are so many points held by Australian KF accounts.

My guess would be that the extra KrisFlyer miles held by Australian accounts would be a drop in the ocean. Few Velocity members would have even known they could transfer Velocity points to KF and it was sufficiently difficult to do it to deter most members. Some of us on these pages might have held large balances and transferred them; that was probably enough to show up as large transactions to VA and set alarm bells ringing, but not enough to unduly trouble SQ. One challenge will be if VA does go belly up, how will we earn enough KF points to keep our accounts there healthy. I have about 80k KF miles and ANZ Rewards worth another 40k, but then what? Others must be in a similar position.

Healthy sign up bonuses from St George Amplify, ANZ Rewards, Westpac Altitude, Amex, Citibank and NAB credit cards would get you a fair whack of Krisflyer points.

There's an equivalent of over 200k Krisflyer points currently on offer through sign up bonuses with the above banks.

I only did enough to KF for a return business ticket, but I wouldn't mind some RM Williams boots and some Ray Bans.

When you count the Americans who have KF miles, (none of whom have any real reason to transfer in or out) yes a fleabite in the big picture.

MEL - WLG and back is "nice" in SQ J.

Hi guys, I was wondering if I would be able to redeem Singapore Airlines flights with velocity. I know they have disabled transfers to the Krisflyer Program, but will I still be able to make a redemption with their partner airlines.
