I'm sure he can cope with that eventuality, after all he has a lot of experience in "lounging" around.

Some people are not unhappy about the disruption,on 3AW this morning they reported the
story of a taxi driver who took two passengers from Melbourne to Sydney yesterday, dropped them
off then turned round and drove back to Melbourne straight away-he charged them $1200.00 for
the journey!

If you want to hear the latest updates from QF, follow @QantasMedia on twitter, this s not the mainline account, but the one to spread news thru the media.

QantasMedia Qantas Airways

All Tas, NZ flights today cancelled due to volcanic ash. Mel flights now cancelled until 1pm. Check qantas.com http://t.co/cS0YGiU

Looks like it is going to be a very busy day:!:

Currently in SYD, enjoying late checkout. Was on QF 449 to MEL today (other afternoon flights seemed to be still running, except this). Checked last night flight status QF449 and noted was cancelled. Quick call to QFF (after much discussion), managed to get on another flight today.... will see if we get home to MEL

Sitting in the CNS QP at the moment with a 2 hour delay on JQ947, the flight was showing as cancelled for an hour or two last night but it looks like I'm going to make my connection to DJ697 :)

QF has just tweeted that flights will resume from 1PM today.
Cheers

From what I hear it is the second cloud ash over the southern ocean that has the potential to shut down more airspace.
Should be getting close to TAS/VIC in the next 48 hours.

Well i have been re-booked onto the 1pm TODAY!!!! the guy at the Lounge desk was a legend! Normally I would have been happy to stay another night but my daughter is a bit eager to get home. Very happy with how QF have looked after this WP!!

He was also telling me they are looking at using a couple of 747's today to help shift people between MEL-SYD.

If you get on a 747, hope you get a seat up the front in F ;)

Are there any 747-capable gates at the domestic terminals of MEL and SYD?

I don't think there are many SYD has 1, maybe 2 AFAIK ..... Even better, may have to go over to the International Terminal and get stuck in the F Lounge! :)

I hope so, have we forgotten what is now operating SYD-PER? Both Mel and Syd have 4- 6 gates that are capable of 747 operation, in fact all the main capital cities have no issues with 747 domestic ops.

Touché! They have flown 747s in the past to Perth as well, this isn't the first time. I've also been on a 747 a few years ago MEL-SYD when the World Cup was on there - they had to put them on because of the increased passenger loads at the time. From memory, it was maybe from Gate 11 (that's down the end in the round bit in Mel isn't it?)

For those that are interested. You can track the progress of flights here WebTrak: Melbourne International Airport

Theres about a 30min delay and I can't comment on its accuracy. But it looks like Virgin has the skies all to itself!
