Just finalised my flights:

DJ512 DepOOL 0900 ArrSyd 1030
JQ35
DJ755 DepMEL 1835 ArrOOL 2035

I'll hear over to T1 around 11ish. I'll be the young looking one, with a Black coat. Looking forward to seeing everybody!

Well Sam and I knocked off a nice bottle of Shiraz as a warm up for our livers in antcipiation for tomorrow. Now it's time for a couple of hours sleep before getting up at oh my god o'clock tomorrow.F lounge, here we come :)

Disappointed I can't join everyone - with Melbourne Open House tomorrow and a charity dinner at Curly Flat winery tomorrow night, I couldn't make it work. Maybe next time ... if they don't ban AFF member gatherings!

Melbourne Open House is on both days! I'm going to do that on Sunday before flying back home at 5:45pm :)

I know, but the mate I'm going with can only make it tomorrow and JQ35 return time is cutting it too fine for the dinner I'm going to - bus leaving the city at 5.30pm. A friend has organised it and it was booked ages ago.

You're keen coming from CBR for Melbourne Open House!

Oh, it's not just that. I'm also going to see Love Never Dies tomorrow night, and there's the F lounge :)

Having said that, I have flown to Sydney for the past 6 years for their biennial version (Sydney Open). Never been to Melbourne Open House before though.

Ditto except I'll be the older looking guy, 1.9 m tall with dark curly hair, jeans, pinkish shirt and navy jacket. Will be good to meet everybody.

From comments I recall you making, wasn't the F Lounge an after thought?

I've been to Melbourne Open House twice (two years prior to last year) - it was very interesting, even if I wasn't able to get into a couple of the buildings I really wanted to (Manchester Unity and Russell Place sub-station) due to the extremely long queues! Unfortunately won't get to see MU this year either, as I wasn't lucky in the ballot. Luckily a mate has arranged a private viewing next week!

I'm keen to visit some of the others too.

Is your interest architecture, or just general curiosity of places you don't normally get to see inside?

Indeed it was.

I had planned on going to Melbourne this weekend, primarily for Melbourne Open House but with plans to schedule some other stuff in (this year was the first I'd heard of the event).

When the F lounge idea came up I hadn't booked my Melbourne flights yet, so it seemed like a good excuse to route myself via Sydney for only a small amount extra.

Alas I didn't realise there was a ballot system, so I'll only be going to buildings that are open access. Hopefully it'll still be worth it!

Sydney was awesome last year. I managed to get tickets to the extremely limited Sydney train tunnel tours which involved going to abandoned platforms and tunnels underneath Central station, and the bowels of the station.

I've always had an interest in architecture since I was young, but it's a personal interest - not a professional one.

There's also the appeal of seeing inside places that the general public don't usually get to see. For example, on the recent Sydney Open I climbed up a ladder to get onto the roof of the AWA Tower and was able to see the antenna from this perspective - something that not many people get to do.

The ballot was only for 6 of the 75 buildings open, so there will still be plenty to see. Be prepared for long queues for the popular places, such as the sub-stations, though.I didn't realise there were events in other states until this year. I note that it appears the Sydney event is not free, which is disappointing as it isn't in keeping with the spirit of the event, but to be expected I suppose, given the popularity and cost to host.Central Station tour sounds awesome! Just the sort of thing I love! This time last year, I did a tour of a mid-late 1800's steam train tunnel in Brooklyn (hence I missed Melb Open House), which was great. We entered through a man hole in the middle of a busy intersection! The story told by the guy who discovered the tunnel was vey entertaining too.I also did a tour of Grand Central Terminal, which was fantastic. Although we were only shown current public areas and no tunnels or disused platforms, the history was fascinating.I tried to take a tour of a disused NY subway station - City Hall, either built in, or not used since the '40's - but tours only run once every few months and unfortunately not while I was there. I did manage to stand in a park that I worked out was directly above the station though!

I'm in the bne J lounge now. Sitting by window at the magazine rack, near long table. Real name is Neal by the way :)

I'm on my way to work :(

Even if I wanted to misbehave, I've missed the Sydney departure to make it, which is probably a good thing.

I'll wave as I go past, I'll be somewhere over Mt Bulla at approx 0740. Im the one 6 windows back on the Port side of the aircraft heading toward MEL

That doesn't give anybody a good description of who you are,

Might pop into the Sydney Qantas lounge for breakfast in 2 hours, if I can be guested in.
