Wendouree allocations and general discussion

Re: Wendouree 2016 allocations

Do you (or does any other member) get this annually Dr Ralph?

Wendouree wines? Yes.

Jeremy Oliver Report? No.

I usually get Halliday Companion every year though.

Thanks afro and BettyB. I'm in the US quite a bit for the next few months so trying to keep track of my mail is a bit difficult.

Confirm that I received my order form today, am in ADL. Hopefully get a bit more than last year, only second year on the list so will take whatever I get.
There is some discussion upthread about crayon marks of different colours - does your form have a mark? Colour?

I received mine also. Red crayon (have been for past 3 years). Usually over order and get more than I was expecting. Let's hope this year is no different.

When you say over order, does that include their shiraz?

Your also SA based adelee?

Yes, Adelaide based. For anyone interested and yet to receive their order, pricing as follows:

Shiraz Mataro 2015 - $50
Shiraz Malbec 2015 - $50
Shiraz 2015 (6 bottle limit) - $60
Malbec 2015 - $50
Cabernet Malbec 2015 - $55
Cabernet Sauvignon 2015 (6 bottle limit) - $60
Muscat (2014) - $25

Having attended a couple of extra special Wendouree events in the past few months (the Tasting Australia masterclass run by Stephen George, and then a private Wendouree back vintage dinner with other Adelaide collectors) I've been blown away on both occasions by the cabernet-based wines - a 1997 Cabernet was particularly memorable. Will be stocking up on a decent amount of the Cab-Malbec this year along with my 6 bottle limit of Cabernet sauvignon. Might drop back to 4 bottles each of the shiraz blends (but stick with 6 for the shiraz).

And I think there's been up- thread debate about this, but it's interesting to note that at the masterclass, Stephen George was asked about the drinking window for Wendouree and whether it's best to put them all away for 20 years - he got very hot under the collar about this and encouraged people to open some of their younger bottles early. 'Mix it up' he said. Really, there's no point collecting something and not trying it to check whether you like it. Cheers to that.

Thanks for posting the current offerings. I'm in the US so not likely to see my mail for some time yet.

As for Stephen George's comments I would have responded with 'Once it's consumed it's gone forever.'

As usual, Dr Ralph, we will have to agree to disagree. Once any wine is consumed, it's gone forever ;) A number of recent Wendouree vintages have presented as quite approachable young. Hence I don't agree with the blanket "cellar them for 20 years and only then take a look" approach to the wines that some seem to swear by when it comes to Wendouree. I was glad to hear that Stephen George (who has been the consultant wine maker to Tony and Lita since 1982) agreed.

Anyway, posting back the form today. Hopefully I'll get most of what I asked for and will probably earmark one of the shiraz blends or malbec for an early taste over the next few years.
