Card Offers Westpac Altitude Black offers: 120,000 Qantas or Velocity Points (expires 30/4/25)

"Welcome Bonus" 40K appeared on amex in the transaction that cut me over the 3k spend. About a week prior to my usual points sweep so will expect those to post this month.

Now, I'm facing the dilemma of whether to close the Amex or not. Will definitely be closing the mastercard as soon as the bonus points post - but if the Amex does not count towards the amex exclusion period, no harm in holding it through to the second year annual fee - thoughts?

It'd be good to know, but it seems even the AMEX reps have no idea as it depends on who you talk to in which answer you get.

Is it possible to only cancel the Westpac card once the spend has been hit and keep the Amex, or do you have to cancel both at the same time? The points per dollar isn't great on the Mastercard so I won't be using it anyway.

Can’t see why not. The cards are issued by seperate institutions and it’s possible to get approved by one and not the other. But don’t cancel before you receive the bonus points.

Still waiting for the Westpac points to hit my account. Reached it last month so I'm sure it'll be another couple of months before I can cancel then.

Why cancel ASAP? It's a decent card, earns more points than my other Mastercard does. I plan to keep it at least for the full year.

My ANZ Black earns 1 point per dollar compared to the 0.75 point per dollar so I have no use for it.

The Amex gets used still with 1.25 point per dollar where it can be used.

1 point per dollar up to 2000 or whatever their ridiculous monthly limit is :D
Getting off topic now but the ANZ black monthly limit is $7500.

Back to Westpac, I see there is no required minimum income but did see an article mentioned near the start of this thread with recommended incomes. What incomes have people applied for these cards with? My wife works part time and brings in $64k a year. Wondering whether to apply for the cards when the recommended income is $75k.

Had the same issue. My wife is currently 3 days a week and could only show 50k. Still approved for both of these cards

How did you distribute monthly expenses on her application? Just 50/50 with you for mortgage etc etc or larger proportion of the spend to you? We also have a credit card that comes for free with our mortgage that's under both of our names so that's additional credit against her name.

May just have to apply for her to get one then as its too good a deal not to take advantage of.

Sure we just did 50/50. We don't have car loans etc plus relatively small mortgage so I guess these things may be a factor too. Like yourself just getting her into this as well so her credit score is almost 900

Met $3K spend for Mastercard about a fortnight into the card, just got issued first statement from Westpac and received 2,396 points in QFF account but no 80,000 bonus. I thought I may have been lucky like some on here and get bonus points issued first statement, oh well looks like next month.

Received 40k qff points from the amex despite alreading holding explorer and edge.
I think this was to be expected. Westpac and David Jones cards have traditionally not been connected to direct AMEX issued cards. But thanks for the report.

I was approved for the Mastercard component of this by Westpac about a fortnight ago. Have met the $3k min spend for the 80k. But I haven't heard a peep from AMEX! I have rung Westpac a few times; AMEX hasn't received my application whilst Wespac insisted each time that my deets have been submitted to AMEX, and only a week after I received my Mastercard they finally accepted that AMEX may not have received my application due to some process/system glitch, and have re-sent my application to AMEX. Here's hoping...

When I applied, was approved by Westpac, screen said details would be passed to Amex for assessment, then a minute later received an email from Amex saying approved. Worked well because it worked, but can see how a missed link could be a problem.

Similar run around myself today after picking up my visa in the branch.

Westpac passed me around a couple of areas before sending me to to AMEX who said they don't have anything. Call Westpac again and they had a closer look... Looks like it didn't get 'sent' to AMEX so they have emailed them today whilst I was on hold. Not the best first impression...
