Westpac Singapore KrisFlyer Credit Card

I recently joined, and I used my existing SQ number but I think Westpac screwed up and applied for another one for me.

Give the Westpac people a call on 13 2032 and they should be able to clear that up. As SQ don't do account transfers in your interest to accrue the points to the correct account. Hope it's not too late.

Actually I did give Westpac a call, and the operator was clueless to what I was talking about. They said they knew of only the original account, and all points were going there.

Incidentally though, the SQ people sent me an email and advised there's a duplication. The email said they will merge the two KrisFlyer accounts, so no potential point loss.

Can someone who has been redeeming points for flights update us on redeeming points for flights to Europe and USA in J or First ?
Best results and how? Any tricks and traps, discounts and bonuses?

Use the SQ website to search to Saver awards to both USA via Tokyo & Europe. Destinations for Europe are limited ie Amsterdam, Athens, Frankfurt. Good if you have some extra time as you get 747 F for similar points to A380 J.

For an upcoming trip to ZRH I've redeemed to go via FRA on a *A redemption J/F mix. Returning via TG in F. Same points as if I was redeeming for a SQ J direct flight due to only having standard awards on the A380 into ZRH.

Make good use of the ANA Tool & SQ website to do your research.

Be flexible +- 3 days to get a flight that suits you.

Thanks for the input on Kris and their alliances. I have done 2 j redemptions and was really happy with the product. It seems the far left column is harder to get but the middle column is available at a reasonable points deal for the US which is most of my travel.
Having QF points for LAX to NYC for either 50k in J or 75K in First has always worked.
With Star partners is it less points to NYC and can we get it easily?

I decided to try the 76,500 point deal in First to Lax via Narita from Singapore and I am coming back on the A340-500 Lax to Singapore in the all J plane.
I really enjoyed the A340 so I am wondering what the 747 in First is like.

Hi,

Nice card. Missed this forum somehow. Recently had the first anniversary of the card and got the card free for one more year. But, its a couple of weeks since then and still haven't received the voucher for 25, 000 points. Does it take this much time?

Cheers,
LPP

Hi,
I just got mine on the same statement as the annual fee was charged on. Look on your PDF statement or the hardcopy mailed.

I must admit that I am VERY disappointed as:
* Voucher has to be redeemed in only a 6 month window.

* It is not really 50% as it includes the 15% you already get for booking online. ie is really only 35%!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can you provide some more detail on where the voucher is provided. I checked on my previous statement which contains the Annual Fee and can't see any mention of the voucher.

I fear that if it as an attachment or separate page I may have filed it in the bin.

Ok..

In my case it has just become due and I have not yet received the hardcopy in the mail.

It is on the PDF version of the statement when you use electronic banking as part of the statement. In my case it was pages 5 and 6.
So I would guess on a harcopy it would be two extr pages.
But if issued to you you should be able to see it online.

Mine hasn't appeared on hardcopy of pdf. . Perhaps it'll come next month.

I am about to apply for the Platinum Kris Flyer card.

Just wondering for the loyalty bonus of up to 25,000 miles after year 1, can it be used to redeem business class standard ticket alone? The conditions didn't say so. It only says the loyalty bonus can be used for economy class and upgrade tickets.

I assume if I use the loyalty bonus to make a booking online, the 15% discount for online redemption booking wouldn't apply, is that true?

Lets say if I wanted to book a standard business class ticket from Melbourne to Hong Kong using miles alone, that would cost 180,000 miles. So with the online redemption discount, I can book it for 153,000 miles. Thats a saving of 27,000 miles already. If thats the case, isn't the loyalty bonus of 25,000 miles totally useless?

Cheers

Well you have put it rather bluntly. Well done!

The voucher is intended for Economy redemption or an upgrade to J. For best value it would be best used for an economy ticket cost of 50,000 points allowing full use of the voucher without it being diluted. As the card has really only just had its first birthday the vouchers are only just making their way into the market. I'm sure this thread will develop the optimum way to use the voucher.

Just for the record I went back and refreshed from the Westpac Krisfltyer site the following:

Save up to 25,000 KrisFlyer miles after your first year
After every year, you'll be rewarded with a special thank you for your loyalty to your Singapore Airlines Westpac Cards - for example, after you've had your card for one year, you'll receive a renewal gift voucher that allows you to enjoy a 50% discount (up to a maximum of 25,000 KrisFlyer miles for Platinum, and 15,000 KrisFlyer miles for Gold) off an economy saver redemption ticket or upgrade.

Economy saver ex-SYD to HKG round trip shows as 55000 miles...without the 15% online redemption booking. So, 50% discount on 46750 = 23375. Where to next? Does the trip cost 23375 miles?

I don't think you can combine the 15% online redemption discount with the loyalty voucher?

If the round trip costs 55000 miles, then using the voucher, you only need 30000 miles.

Interesting to hear how others feel when they get the voucher this month. I think you have to complete your travel within the 6 months, that makes it a bit challenging.

If they can relax the scheme and let people depart within the 6 months of the voucher being issued, that would be the best! Many tickets are issued as 1 year ticket anyway.
