What cheeses me off

It might actually be illegal to be doing that at a polling booth. Campaigning is forbidd within 6m of a polling booth entrance or within a polling place. Of course what constitutes apolling place. If it's a public school, is it anything inside the fence line?
The 6m requirement is accurate however refers to the actual entrance to the room/building/area being used for the election. I was a polling official last Saturday and that is how the supervisor interpreted and enforced the law..

In my case the fence line is 50m from the hall inside where you need to vote, but there is only one gate in and out of that school fence open so you do not have a choice, you need to brave the gauntlet of fanboys with flyers harassing you.

Even if the rule is broken, what really happens? They got told don't do it again, and that's that.

Trying to turn it into a media spectacle doesn't seem worth it, and doesn't really make up for the aggravation in the first place.

SQ A350-900. Still awful. So what would you do to avoid this aircraft on BNE-SIN route but still fly SQ?

Have just been checking preliminary airfares for June 2024 trip.

BNE-SIN return $1335 flying both BNE-SIN and return legs on A350-900 and this earns 90SCs each on VA.

SYD-SIN return $1010 return flying 777 on SYD-SIN leg and A380-800 on SIN-SYD leg and this earns 90SCs on VA. The BKK-SIN leg also happens to be a 787 so only 1 leg on an A350. Add on BNE-SYD return on VA for $250 and this earns 30SCs. Plus we'll need 1 night in SYD in Holiday Inn express using a portion of my 750,000+ IHG points.

So for the 3 of us either

- $4005 + 270 SCs and all legs on A350-900
- $3780 + 360 SCs and only 1 leg on A350-900 with a little bit of stuffing around

I'll take the long way thanks. Would also be a good start on the quest to get wife VA Gold as I'd already be VA Platinum by then and then we'd have no issue getting 3 of us into lounge for 12 months when I soft land to VA Gold.

And thankfully I've managed to avoid this awful aircraft for end of year trip.

From back in my student days (when working at a polling booth was a nice earner) it was the actual building in which the voting was done. So not the fence around the school but the doorway.
within 6m of a polling booth entrance

The rules also include wearing of attire, badges or similar paraphernalia spruiking for a candidate.

Once as a 19yo I was given the task of monitoring the booth entrance to ensure compliance. This was a smallish rural booth, the area being one I was unfamiliar with.

I stopped one person wearing such a badge who looked upset and yelled inside to the "Returning Officer (booth boss)" who turned out to be a friend of theirs. The boss looked exhasperated once informed of the situation and asked his mate to take the badge off who eventually did. (A short time after, I was asked to perform a different duty, crossing people's name off and handing out the forms.)

I was a scrutineer at a very close federal seat. You get to see all sorts of things written on the ballot papers including some anatomy and swear words. If you need to do something different this could be for you….
Did you ever see anything written that you believe the police should know about?

Anyone dumb enough to write their name on the paper?

As ballots are anonymised, there is nothing the police would do except have a chuckle.
It would be very chilling for the Electoral Commission to invite the Federal police to examine a ballot paper.
*shrug* I was thinking something along the lines of "<politician> will say hello for the last time tomorrow, forever", that might warrant informing the police and perhaps protection detail.

We have a battle axe property, so long driveway, we have had issues with the neighbour directly behind us before.
Came home today and he was down our driveway, trimming branches over hanging the fence. If he was a sensible, rational person, it wouldn’t be a problem, and I would be happy for him to do this, however due to previous issues, this is not the case.

I asked him if he had asked the boss who was home, if it was alright for him to be on our property, didn’t answer. I explained to him that it was actually our property and he had no right to be there unless agreed to it by us. He swore at me, so I gave him a piece of my mind, although there isn’t much left. :) He then hit his pruning tool against the fence.

This is the same guy that left a nasty note in our letterbox complaining we had pruned a hedge that is on our side of the fence line.
The boss also came home one day to find him down our driveway planting a tree against the fence. When questioned as to what he was doing, he said “this is a laneway isn’t it”, meaning that it was public property, wrong.

You just have to get through the Halloween stuff now - all that plastic is making me sad
"We" have a couple of skeletons hanging in the corridor. DIL is in NY, decorations look more like Thanksgiving than Halloween.

Trees Neighbours and Fences. Toxic mix.

Shrinkflation. OK, I get it, cereal boxes, vegemite jars etc etc change weights and volumes all the time. But certain things are sacrosanct.

But not really, here in Singapore some brands of milk have shrunk their 1 litre carton to 950ml and 2 litre bottles of milk to 1.89 litres. Very devious as they look almost the same. I refuse to buy even if the unit price is less (which it rarely is).

So a homeless person has decided to take up residency under the stars at a local park near the toys.

My wife used to take daughter there after school but is now frightened to go. Am I being cruel calling the council?

Cadbury chocolates. Look, I know they were not high end but I used to enjoy plain and chocolate hazelnut.. I bought a block of delicious sounding Cadbury the other day with nuts and salted caramel. Well, the chocolate was carp - compound cheap coughe? And no flavour of caramel or salt. The nuts were simply gritty bits that stuck in your teeth. Shame on you Cadbury.

I don't think I've eaten Cadbury for years - it was never great but obviously gone downhill
