What cheeses me off

Bali! This definitely not everyone.

Waiting at immigration it was clear the type of people that visit here. Not just Aussie bogans. Same type of people from everywhere.

Slums everywhere. Does not look safe at night.

Was thinking of visiting here for 1 week in September. I'm not a resort person. At this stage we don't need to come back here and save money to go to up market tourist destinations like Pattaya. Yes Pattaya feels like an upmarket destination compared to here.

Busy traffic in the CBD in Adelaide this morning.

Uber driver in front left almost a full car length in front and they wonder why intersections get jammed

Looking for a car park in North Adelaide - some w@nker parks in a shady spot that holds two cars but parked right in the middle.

Sighhh -

Where are you? If you aren't in a resort then likely in not a pleasant tourist area other than bogans so likely bad choice of locations.

This is not true, for Russians and Australians I think it is, and lots of backpackers from all over. But for Americans it is very much an aspirational destination on the other side of the world, which is why Marriott resort properties, to pick one example, are usually on the high side of what you'd expect. From Singapore, it's a place to go to for expats and regular Singaporeans alike.

And then there is the huge domestic tourist market. Jakarta-Denpasar is the 10th busiest route in the world, in terms of number of seats on offer.

As an anecdote, a few times I've returned from Bali to SIN on KLM, and the crowd milling around the KLM gate was chalk and cheese to the crowds hanging around the gates for Australian departures. Understandable, the European equivalent of Australian Bali holidaymakers are probably sipping coughtails in the south of Spain, Greece or Turkey (at certain times of the year, anyway).

If you look at the distance from the airport to the northern part of the island - it spans a greater distance than Bondi to Penrith,. It doesn't mean all of Bali is the same (as Kuta).

I spent only one day in Bali last year and did a private all day tour (was there on port call) of what was allegedly the highlights.

Unfair as it may seem, and I’ll probably get howled down, and probably be in the (less than) 1% minority, but based on that sample, have zero desire ever to return.

We're in HI Express Baruna. Literally a few minutes from DPS airport. The Holiday Inn Baruna is next door.

I was basically commenting on the people last night at immigration.

I'm not someone that can spend 1 week sitting in a resort. I'd be bored real quick.

Meh. Bali is what you make of it. There’s good and bad. Just find the good if you can be bothered. The Balinese people are wonderful. Take the time to get to know their stories. I’d spend hours chatting to the massage ladies on the beach while the lads were surfing. I took them quality clothing for their kids and themselves. Books and pencils. Lifetime memories.

Yes I know and I'm probably being overly critical.

I know lots of people that hate Pattaya. For me it's the ultimate destination. It has everything. Golf. Shopping. Resorts. Night-life. Sightseeing. Food (although I hate the food).

By the way I asked wife/daughter if they can spend time in a resort in Bali and both said overwhelmingly yes so we'll be back at some point for a few days if a good deal comes along.

This did not cheese me off too much, but didn’t please me either :)

I’m at a 7-11 wearing a track pant and round neck t shirt - nothing that resembles the uniform 7-11 staff wear.

I’m making a coffee, minding my own business, when a 40 something bloke walks in, straight to me and goes “hey, my son wants to use the restroom in your shop, is that ok?” … I didn’t realise he was talking to me, I was busy stirring my coffee.

His voice goes up a bit and repeats the question .. and I go “I don’t work here mate” and pointing at the 7-11 staff at the registers I say “may be they can help”.

He’s not happy with my reply- makes a frustrated face and walks over to the register …

I’m not sure why he had to assume that I work there? Not every Indian looking person at a 7-11 work at that 7-11 😂😂😂

The word Watermelon begins with the letter W.

Why does Woolworths list it under M on their self-checkouts?

The sign in the fruit and veg section doesn’t say Mellon, water.

On the screen at self checkout it’s not called Mellon, water.

And on the receipt, nope, doesn’t say Melon, water there either!

Ditto for Rockmellon which should be listed under R, not M.

And Sweet potato, which should be listed under S, not P.

try buying shallots. There's another one but can't think of it right now. Likely there's heaps.

What cheeses me off is people who think no one ever steps out of an elevator?

I mean seriously they can't wait for people to get out of elevator before forcing their way in?
That's cultural. Have you ever been to Hong Kong? It's the same with trains there. When arriving at Yau Ma Tei, which used to be a terminus, passengers would still ram raid their way on to the train before you had a chance to disembark, despite the fact that the train on other side of the island platform was going to be the next train to leave!
