What cheeses me off

Re:1

Tonight I got my own back
Found myself seated next to a man who I had seen smoking in our small seated (and strictly -supposedly- nonsmoking section) at the Lenny Kravitz concert.

So tonight at Raye concert, when he lit up as soon as he sat down I advised (in French) this is a non-smoking section. Please do not smoke

To which he said (angrily)

‘You are American - I am French I do what I like’😂

Then I said:

‘American??!!’
‘This is the non-smoking section’

He said:
‘You are wrong — you can smoke here. I have been to Montreux four times and always smoked!!!!’

I said:
‘This IS NON SMOKING
I have been to Montreux 5x (irrelevant).’😂😂😂

I then motioned for security to come across

He then said - ‘its OK please don’t … I will stop just for you… no need to get anyone over…just for you ‘ 😂😂😂

..just for me - FFS🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️
So, you likely wouldn't like the beaches in Portugal then.

WCMO is my own stupidity in tempting fate.

Colleague in MEL messaged me yesterday (before we knew about the Crowdstrike issue) to say she was on hold with IT as her laptop encountered the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) error and was refusing to boot up again. She mentioned that various other colleagues had the same issue and suggested our company had some global outage with Microsoft. Stupid me, happily working away on my laptop, informed her that I didn’t think there was a global outage as my laptop was perfectly fine and nobody else had mentioned an issue.

Quite literally 30 seconds later….

Agree
Was in Portugal 10 days ago and hated the smoking in outdoor restaurants and everywhere in hotels
Although smoking is common in Japan even allowed in some restaurants you had better not smoke if you are on Japan's Olympic team. The Captain of th woman's gymnastic team and their best gymnast has been sent home from Monaco where they were training after she admitted she had smoked a had alcohol.

WCMO: ATM swallows your credit card 2 days before flying OS for 5 wks….😡

Crowd strikes again?

Fortunately, it wasn’t my 28° MC or ING / UBank DCs but my NAB Visa that I’m unlikely to need OS. But still a PITA. I should have waited until Monday to get cash when most systems had done a master reset….

I've found NAB useless overseas. Tried so many times to advise them of overseas travel on their app and website but it always crashed. Of course when I tried to use it overseas - fail. ING was brilliant.

Raise it with ... wallet stolen.

Not sure what you mean?

I just put a temporary block on the card via my NAB app. I’ll go to the CBA branch in question on Monday to see if I can get the card back (I doubt it).

Then call NAB to make sure preauthorised monthly payments will still go through. I’ve not checked, but I believe my Apple Pay with that card will still work not that I’ll use it OS. I’ll request a replacement closer to when I’m returning. I don’t want a new physical card floating around the system just waiting to be pilfered - it’s happened before….😔

I used to get ATM fee free withdrawals using my NAB cards but that was enhanced a year or so ago. I do have the NAB Platinum VISA Debit card that’s fee free and the Citi replacement. But I usually just use 28° or ING/UBank (all forex fee free).

So your card was taken. My whole wallet was taken.

In “Little things I like” moment. I was able to retrieve my digested CC this morning!

I went up to the CBA branch who’s ATM took my card, first thing and they hadn’t yet cut it up (as per their policy for non CBA cards!).

As an aside, I did work out that with a temporary block on my card (via the NAB app), I could still use ApplePay but obviously not online (unless that was able to trigger ApplePay). No idea what would have happened with recurring payments with just the hold. Pretty sure if I request a new card, the expiry date and CVC are reset and that can stuff up CC direct debit approvals….

I mis-placed my wallet last week for a little while so blocked all the cards on it. And I noticed in that it says Apple Pay will still work so therefore my watch, which is what I always used to tap onto payments here.

I thought you beaut - I’ll keep the cards blocked until I need to go online and buy something. D’oh! 🙄 forgetting about all the recurring payments, so I got a few very nasty texts and emails the following day. Cards quickly unblocked but for one they had completely suspended my card and I had to change the card for recurring payments in that one.

Yes, that’s what I was concerned about. I move everything I could over to AMEX but TPG charges 3% fee for AMEX/Diners…! Fortunately, there were things that never used to take AMEX but now do (and fee free).

My other WCMO was a cunning plan to switch some things to a no fee back up CC. Only to discover it had expired and it appears that NAB never issued a new card as far as I can tell….🤷‍♂️.

In Robotics Club, I was searching up and down for a particular piece of Lego (a whole bunch of them). Couldn't find any, was desperate, so stumped up $120 incl. postage to buy a whole lot of them from a local firm.

One week later and the new parts are delivered. I open up the drawers on a trolley to find a spot to put the new pieces.....and I find a whole bunch of said type of pieces that we already own. (tldr - I wasted $120)

AVIS! (amongst rental cars in general).

I'm looking to hire an Avis car in Sth Africa for 4 days, JNB-JNB. Bog standard. There is no info on what excess I will be liable for if I take out their loss/damage waiver.

* First call - agent gives me 4 figures ranging from about A$2K to A$4K before saying she really didn't know & has to call Jo'burg; please hold the line. Of course Jo'burg doesn't answer.

* Second call, next day. Agent says they don't have that info, need to call Jo'burg; no answer, try again later

* Third call, later. Agent says she can't call Jo'burg, I'll have to e-mail.

I'm after the standard excess on a standard car!

E-mail reservations in Jo'Burg, asking what's the excess payable in case of accident for partic car/class if I take out LDW?

* First reply is a form asking for all my requirements so they can make a rental quote. 🤬

* I reply, no, just after excess amount. Their reply is that there are 2 levels of waiver, depending on booking codes.

* I reply giving them my reservation number, asking what the excess payable would be with the LDW I have.

* Answer is that that's just the standard waiver.

I mean, its a set figure for a class of car after taking out certain insurances. They have my booking number. What's so hard about telling me what excess is payable? Why shouldn't the Australian call centre be able to tell me?
