What cheeses me off

Because the merchant might have several businesses. Woolies petrol Mt Ommaney being one of them

It can be a PITA when you check your CC statement (well done for checking your statement - lot don't).
I've been checking statements for a long time. Easiest way to pick up fraudulent transactions.

When you say merchant do you mean "EG Group" or the Woolworths Petrol franchise? So if I went to Woolworths Kenmore that might say "EG Group" too? Confusing.

By the way I've come across some trading names that are totally indecipherable and you have to think really hard to try and work out the actual merchant.

I bought petrol last week from Woolworths Petrol. Checking credit card statement and I see a charge from EG Group. So I have to go to Google to look up EG Group and find its a British company that owns Australian petrol stations amongst other things.

Why not just have Woolworths Mt Ommaney on credit card statement to make it easy instead of meaningless trading names? Too difficult to do?
Its the way it is, ie, who processes the card transaction.
At least we or I know, and you now know, who EG is, and in the end, they will all transfer to Ampol (I believe).
Most places I buy from now, I just say "no receipt thanks" and the person behind the counter does not have to do anything, but some places, it will still print, no matter if you say no receipt.
They then have to throw that small piece of paper in the bin.
Most places these days, their EFTPOS receipt that is, do not show the first 6 digits of the card anymore, they just show "xxyyx641abqzz" or what ever.
What irks me though, as similar to your situation JohnK is, when the processor of the card, does not bear any resemblance to the place you bought/I bought items from.
Asian grocers can be like this, it might (Upper Mt Gravatt Asian Grocers)/Takeaway on the store front, but the card processor can be "Ah Wong Nominees".
In South Aust we don't have 7elevens, and even our BP petrol outlets here are under OTR who have onsold all their stores to Viva, who own Coles Express now too, so Viva energy might also appear if you buy from a the Pikenba outlet, you might get a Viva receipt.

What cheeses me off... Companies hiding behind poorly designed technology in post COVID era to not fulfil their promises.

From Qantas to Woolworths to to Telstra to Coles I have constant missing entitlements and wrongly applied discounts, after keeping up my side of the bargain and spending what I need to in order to qualify, I have to constantly chase them up by being on the phone during business hours (since they all abandoned conveniences like chat / email support post pandemic) as if it is my day job...
I found out that FlyBuys travel are one of the worst offenders, in that they promise 1 FB point per $1 spent for hotel bookings via them, they very happily will take your $ for the booking on the booking date, even tho the stay might be months away, but the points never appear.
Life's too short for me to keep using my phone credit or sending booking evidence, tho some people take pleasure in doing it.
Have contacted FB in the first instance, with a claim.
Girl says, after asking for my FB #, etc, sorry, can't help, contact FB travel.
Did that, sent in a claim, promises, promises of points in 7 days, nope.
But have learnt a lesson, not booking with them again!
Will book direct with hotels and get the 5% off for booking direct, and putting in my hotel membership # in the booking.
Thought FB was quite good, but turns out, nope.

actual merchant.

The one that appears on CC statement.
Amex bizzo charge cards also include the ABN number which is very helpful for the pesky tax invoices where the "tax invoice" is the little receipt which are a PITA to keep and record.

What cheeses me off is that invoices/receipts should come up electronically rather than just a little printout.

JBHifi and Bunnings are good in that if you give them your mobile number they will send an SMS with a link to an electronic copy of the tax invoice. Bunnings only does it for over $100 which also cheeses me off

I think you'll find the new branding doesn't have woolworths as the main name on the sign (EG Ampol now) - with just a small woolworths logo to indicate you can use your rewards card. Obviously takes a while to roll out.

This occurred when it was sold from Caltex to Ampol (EG). Neither was ever operated by Woolworths, however Caltex traded as Caltex Woolworths.

If you bought groceries from the attached supermarket, it would show up as Woolworths. They are separate businesses. A bit like Qantas Health Insurance - that comes up on my credit card as NIB Qantas Health, not Qantas.

Re updates, my windows 10 laptop is very cunning, it at some times, when its download time, will just stop everything I am doing, will not let me proceed, and then the update message comes up, update % starts, and then "do not turn off computer".
What ever button I press, nothing is allowed to happen till that update gets done.
And it always happens when you’re on a hurry to leave the office or on a deadline!

Its a BP which does not do BP rewards or QF rewards. I was stung once before, never again.
Not sure. The cashier stated bluntly “we’re not a BP“ when I queried it. There’s no “BP” wording anywhere, just the logo (sans BP) and same colour scheme.

I have 2 BPs near my home, and both won't accept the QFF direct card, as they say, "they are not BP", and yet, they can carry the BP logo.
As above have mentioned, if you carry the BP logo, you would expect the QFF card to be accepted, and I don't mean the QTMC.
The 2nd line under the BP logo is the one to watch out for, in South Aust, they are all OTR.
The few outlets that have AMPM are the ones that will accept the QFF card or app/stoecard barcode to earn 1 QFF to $1 spent reward.
AMPM fuels are the only one in South Aust that accept the QFF card/app/storecard.
For me, they are further away from home.

Correct

But I have not found a 11-7 which doesn't accept a "special location" 11-7 fuel app discount. 4c/L is meh. I average 15-20c/L
Its not 11-7, they call it 7-eleven.
Unless you put it like that tongue in cheek, heh.
Wish South Aust had them tho, only way to earn VFF points on ground without flying, and without have to buy via the Velocity store, where your purchases might either never come, or not as ordered, or dumped.

To mix my metaphors; I have a lot of cheese to get off my chest.

Paying for a whY ticket in a status earning class, then paying extra to upgrade to J via a bidding process, but being awarded no points or credits because the upgrade goes into the J award class. 😠 Then contacting the airline frequent flyer people to point this out and being told “no dice; boarding pass shows non-earning fare class”. 😡

Paying extra for taxi costs for road tolls and airport access even though you don’t know how much those extra costs are 😡 …cause taxi drivers are always bastions of honesty.

When Mstr Scarlett knocks over a newly delivered vanilla milkshake that the waitstaff couldn’t be bother to put in front of him (delivered into the middle of the table), breaking the glass in the process and the restaurant not only doesn’t offer to replace the drink, but adds $5 to the bill for breaking the glass. 🙁 Yes, I know it was his fault but first time this has ever been an outcome.

Dogs eggs left on grass spaces where you’re kicking a ball around with your son! 😡

Italian drivers. 😡 Just because some of you make Lamborghinis and Ferraris, doesn’t mean everyone should drive as though on a race track. Especially in your Dacia Sandero!

Which Airline?
Australian Carrier Policies are:

Qantas:
https://www.qantas.com/au/en/frequent-flyer/use-points/classic-upgrade-rewards.html

Will I earn Qantas Points and Status Credits for my upgraded flight?

Yes. Although you will only earn Qantas Points and Status Credits for the fare class you originally purchased.
Virgin Australia:
Members will earn Status Credits and Points based on the original fare class booked in the lower cabin.

The cafe should provide kids drinks in unbreakable glasses if they're that worried about breakage. Master Tomcat smashed a glass the other week completely by accident and they were totally fine with it. Other places provide drinks in take away cups if they're concerned.

Printers that demand cartridge replacement as you are about to print boarding passes. Replaced them all and cleaned print heads and boarding pass printed pink! Reclean and same deal. Then I saw I hadn't pulled a tiny yellow tab on blue.

Mine is cheese - and chalk?!

Canon printer at home TEN YEARS service so - just packed up and have stacks of unopened inks…. Cheese

Go into local O works and brought new printer (nothing uses prior inks so I said to the guy these are all bought here and I was going to throw out… no one has a printer that needs them.) He scanned them all and credited me with an amount that was greater than the new printer!! This time I shall do just-in-time purchase of inks only.Chalk

Every printer has different inks worth more than the printer… Back to cheese
