What cheeses me off

In many cases Apple only provide stock on consignment meaning Apple retains ownership and the retailer gets a commission, in this way they heavily influence pricing with any minor discount usually coming from the retailers commission.

Once a product reaches a certain age, Apple then will sell actual stock to retailers.

Some time in the past 3 weeks shifting from one hospital to another my dad has lost his Medicare card that both he and mum use.

Do you think we can call up and request new card?

FFS, he is 86 years old with very little English and zero computer skills. He cannot create a myGov account, link Medicare and request a replacement card.

Why no telephone support? I'm waiting to speak to someone about myGov. It should be much simpler for those who are computer challenged. I should be able to call and request old Medicare to be cancelled and new one issued? That would make way too much sense.

You purchase a sandwich at Brunetti's in Melbourne. Pay and there is a credit card surcharge.

They come over and say I'm sorry you can't have a sandwich here because of cross contamination with your allergy and we will give you a refund.

Refund comes but no refund of the credit card surcharge.

That's the time to get narky and insist they refund that as well.

They will most likely try and say it is not them making the charge, but the bank - which is wrong, they are the merchant charging the fee. Most merchant facilities for credit card typically consist of a fixed monthly fee for the terminal, then a percentage of the transactions (sometimes on a sliding scale based on volume). Refunds and reversals are netted off purchases, so they don't incrementally pay anything once they do the refund. As they are only legally allowed to surcharge to recover their costs of accepting the payment, they need to refund that surcharge as well.

Not getting old. That’s just poor etiquette on behalf of the parents. I know kids can be tough to manage at times, but that doesn’t mean everyone else needs to suffer.
DIL refuses to accept any lounge invites we give her because she knows the kiddies will want to run and exercise and she doesn't want to inflict that on others.

Did you check they didn't charge a credit fee for the refund too?

I'm back in Adelaide now so for 26 cents I'm not going to bother too much but I was wondering what the policy is for that

It was $15.86 charge and $15.60 refund so that's about 1.5% so I don't think so

My accountant. Again. He has taken over the business from our previous one. Relationship of over 20 years. Always paid on time etc etc.

This year. Sent him all the requirements to prepare personal and business ATO returns. A week later he sends a proposal outlining his charges and what his services are. We have to approve and get to the final screen and it asks for upfront payment. Ah nup. Not going to happen. We can't proceed without paying. Send him an email saying after all these years yada yada it's insulting. Oh he said. It's optional to pay. Sent him the screenshot. No it isn't. He fixes it.

I have been doing all the workcover salary reconciliations myself since about 1992 and they have never been an issue. It's a once a year job. Accountant emails and asks for his access to our workcover account. Ah why I ask? This is a state government issue and nothing to do with you other than account for our payments. Ok, he says, send me the reconciliation form. I've never had to do that before. Grudgingly I send it. Thought that was it. It's nothing to do with his brief. The payments we make are clearly workcover payments. Nothing to see.

Today. We receive an email from Workcover asking some unknown person (but from the accounting practice) to be granted access to our workcover account. There is absolutely no need for him to have access to it. So have written back to the accountant suggesting he just does what is required by the ATO and be done with it. Bloody cheek today considering I'd already said no and he was provided with all the receipts that match Xero entries.

The new ones start off ok then try their new modern ways of doing business. Which of course may make sense to them. Relationships matter not a jot it seems.

One year I'd been sorting out our tax paid through PAYE so we had some refund back. Like enforced saving. He could see that when he logged in so he took it upon himself to use those tax 'credits' in a way which did not suit us and we didn't know about until it came to after he'd completed our annual tax returns and his figures made no sense to me. I asked him what happened? He said, oh, I did this and that. I told him to undo this and that and prepare the returns again and next time ask first before assuming.

I was a post grad student at UTAS until a few years ago, then on staff. No longer either.

During that time, there would be endless pointless or otherwise ignorable e-mails, of the type you can imagine a Uni humanities dept could generate.

They kept coming after I left and after 6 months I finally got round to replying to one from the dept secretariat area, saying I'm no-longer affiliated with the Uni, could I be taken off their mailing list.

After about a week, I got cced into an e-mail where the recipient to the above, asked someone in 'personnel' if they could verify what I said (that I'd left). Presumably before they would take me off the mailing list.

The boss told me off for ordering a “flat white” coffee in the states. Coffee with cream, is what I should have said to the young Afro American waitress…..
Don’t think she understood because of my accent anyway…….
Flat Whites have been available in good American coffee shops, and even in Starbucks, for at least 10 years.

A coffee with cream is not even remotely a flat white.

Also, a real Aussie would order a FLAH WOIT and they wouldn't know wtf were talking about.

Just received text from Virgin Money that they've put my card on hold due to suspicious transaction to Coles for $1129+.

This card was only compromised recently. Brand new credit card number not used in Thailand yet.

- Zip
- Afterpay
- Woolworths mobile
- Optus

I think these are the only online transactions. The rest of transactions in store. I would love to know what's going on. Has to be inside job.

WCMO - me and “my too quick to post” habit. I reread what I posted and see auto correct has changed something or I misspelled or whatever and then need to edit (sometimes twice because I edited and and then saved again before finishing parsing all the way through)
